This is just a short video I took of the digital climate control in my 1993 3000GT VR4 after I got the display back from the repair shop. Instructions on Removal of the Climate Control can be found in the links below.
Removal Instructions: I'm not responsible if you break something or hurt yourself while taking your car apart.
1. Disconnect Negative Battery terminal in the engine bay. You need to know your Radio Code in order to get around the security feature. If you don't know it, you can request it here: www.mitsubishicars.com/owners.... I can't guarantee this link is legit, but it appears to be a Mitsubishi site. You are giving them your information at your own risk. I'm not responsible if something malicious happens to you or your information.
2. Remove the Radio: www.stealth316.com/2-radio-rem...
3. Remove the Center dash vents by following Steps 4 and 5 of: www.stealth316.com/2-dashpanel... or www.3swiki.org/Electrical:_Re...
4. Remove the rectangular control unit I mentioned in the video. It is mounted under the Display. Just unbolt it, it can be a real pain though. Some people just cut off the white plastic pieces holding it in place, but I would try your best not to do this.
5. Then you can slide the climate control out the bottom and pull it out where the radio use to be.
Link to the eBay store that offers the repair service I used. Just purchase the service for the year and model that you have:

Outdated Link to the repair service I used on eBay:

Link to related post on 3si.org:

Link to the guide I followed while trying to do the repairs myself, which failed. Luckily the repair service was still able to fix them! I do not recommend trying to do the repairs yourself. Do at your own risk:

Just an update for everyone. I've put removal instructions in the description since so many people were asking for help. Please check those before asking how to remove the display. Otherwise, feel free to post your comments or other questions you may have! Also, the display is still running great over two years after posting this video! :)

I was just looking for the default position of the switch on the top. I can't believe you actually mentioned that you knew it belongs in the middle. Thanks dude.

I know, that little bit of information was really hard to track down. But I eventually found it on one either 3si.org or GTOUK and figured I'd share it here :). Glad it was helpful to you!

Can you give any advice on removing the display? I think the center council and radio has to be removed. Is that correct? I want to make sure that I am not doing additional steps or something incorrectly. Please advise

Sorry for the delayed response! I hope you managed to figure it out on your own without too much difficulty. But here's the link I used to figure out how to remove the display after removing the radio and the rectangular control unit I mentioned in the video. www.3swiki.org/Electrical:_Replace_ECU,_ECS_and_Climate_Control_Capacitors. Then you can slide the climate control out the bottom and pull it out where the radio use to be. I think the first time I removed the display I did remove the center console, but I figured out a way to prevent the need of doing that after taking out the rectangular control unit between the display and the radio.

Mine just quit working yesterday. All the buttons work but no display. I could smell burning capacitor electrolyte just before it went blank. Is there a repair kit I can get?
@wxofxw9166
@wxofxw9166 6 лет назад
That is what happened to me. Stop using it! It will continue to damage the unit, making the repair more difficult. I ended up frying more stuff on my board by continuing to use it without the display. There isn't really a kit. You can follow the guide I've linked in the description and try fixing it yourself like I tried to do. But sending it out to be repaired by the guys I linked in the description, was the best thing I did. Saves you time and money

I have 3 AC units. I have on Amazon and eBay every capacitor, diode and resistors to fix each one. What's a better idea. Fix it yourself and or do the eBay service???

Just curious for anyone else who has a 3k with the digital AC controller, my unit seems to work but the screen is dead. Its completely dark and displays nothing. All the controls work, as far as i can tell without being able to see the display. Is this something i could reasonably fix with a soldering iron, some new capacitors and stuff and a can do attitude or should i send it in to a repair shop and just take the bullet.

Grrat vid, quick(possibly dumb) question: is the rest of the car functional while the unit was away?
@wxofxw9166
@wxofxw9166 7 лет назад
Thanks! Sorry for the delayed response! The car still worked without the display unit and computer. However, the turning signals stopped working. So not too ideal. Everything was working again after installing the repaired unit.

WxofxW I went ahead and did it, if you put the vent with the hazard switch in just enough before it clicks into place, the indicators work

howd it work for you?

One or both of the fans on your radiator will not work with this out. It may only be the display unit, or may be the controller or both that activate the fan(s). I haven't experimented to see if the fan(s) will work with one of them in since I also have a manual fan switch.

I threw the controller in without the dispaly, turned the key and the fans came on.

too bad its a pain in the ass to remove the dash to get this sucker out eh.... how did you re mount it at this point {after video}?
@wxofxw9166
@wxofxw9166 6 лет назад
Hey, sorry for the late reply. RU-vid just notified me that you commented... Removing the dash is a pita the first time you do it. You can actually get the display out without pulling the dash though. I just removed the radio, removed the center console and then unbolted the control module under the display. then removed the air vents above it and unbolted the display and pulled it out through where the radio use to be. To make things easier on myself, I didn't put all the bolts back in on the control module or the display. Now if I need to take it out again, I'll just pull the radio, pull the control module and then unbolt the two bolts I used on the display and things come out a whole lot easier. It's still sturdy enough and stays in place without all the bolts :)

would these work with the base model cars lol

Heh, not sure if they would fit. I think the base models didn't have the same connections nor the option for the light up dude

My damage is minimal from what I can tell. The only visible issues are corrosion on D6 and D7 from leaking capacitors. I sent a message to the ebay guy asking what they do but have not heard back for a week or more. Guess I have to try it myself though I'd rather pay the $100.
@anothermike6140

I have called the ebay guy too but there has been a hurricane so who knows what their situation is. I gave up, bought a 'working' unit online and it wasn't working. So, I had 2 non-working units and tried to do the repair myself. One I'm pretty sure I screwed up practicing with, the other I am confident I did a good job on but it isn't behaving properly. When off it has the red lines, when on its behavior is erratic/crazy. I've only done the caps, resistor and diodes on the display unit, have not done any repairs to the control box. That's how it has been going for me. Now into this for a couple hundred and still nothing working. Wish I could get a hold of the Houston ebay guy.
@wxofxw9166
@wxofxw9166 6 лет назад
Yeah, I tried fixing both of mine as well. Not a good experience. The control box had nothing wrong with it. The guy in Texas was quick to get in touch with me, but they didn't tell me what they did. They also coated the boards in black paint (protective coating?) and I couldn't see what they repaired. I think they don't want to let people know because it could possibly keep them from getting more business. The eBay shop seems to still be up and running. I would just go to his store linked in the description and purchase the service for the year and model you have. Definitely worth it!
@anothermike6140

It seemed like mine was going to work then didn't. The erratic behavior I mentioned may have been from electricity arching between the legs of the display. I noticed little blue sparks arching when it was on. I wonder if that spray was like a dielectric paint? I was thinking of getting some and trying again. I ended up saying to heck with it and buying a Moliva 3C and LCD BC. Cost a bit but will be nice to be done with this. I'd have sent it if I new he wasn't under water, heck, I called and emailed with no response in over a month.

So just to make sure, exactly what they did to fix it is still unknown?? Like no idea whatsoever?
@wxofxw9166
@wxofxw9166 6 лет назад
Yep, it is possible the only difference in the repair they made and the ones I tried so many times was that they sprayed dielectric paint all over the board to prevent further arcing. But they would not tell me, probably because they are afraid it will hurt their business. Which I can understand

Hi there. Sorry for the delay. I won't be selling the spare. I'll hold onto it in case something goes bad and I need it. Parts for these cars are getting harder and harder to find these days :/
