@@stumpynubs5387 If you think people dressed "classy" in the 80s, you definitely were not there. The 80s is went it all went downhill in terms of clothing and hair for that matter.
No sorry I have no idea being a skinhead delinquent in an American hip hop world unless you felt like a outsider like I do now may be, , , mmm may be not in this so called modern times your thoughts?
@@markseleood6623 Hi Mark, Forgive me, as I'm old and a lil out of touch: I don't get your point, friend. My point was for those of us who were into AFOS back then, MTV was our outlet - unless we were lucky enough to catch them perform live and be up close. The emergence of RU-vid brings captured moments to life for every fan to enjoy - not just those who were at that specific show. My point was not about feeling like an outsider, and F *anybody* who makes you feel that way! Thanks for your comment!
@@jerryfiore5818 hi man yeah I get were your coming from now that you explained to me that back in that era that you had to go out see the bands live gigs and that must have taken a lot of time and money but worthwhile for real life experiences pretty kool cool really so thanks for the insight and keep on rocking in the free world 🎸🎤🎵🎧🎙
@@markseleood6623 Honestly, concerts were way less expensive back then, but without social media, we relied upon newspapers, magazines, the radio, MTV ad spots & fan clubs for our tour info. Plus, back then, bands like U2, Duran Duran & INXS all played the larger of what are now smaller arenas (by comparison to today's 5,000+ seat venues). The absolute best was finding out a band you loved was in town, then going at the last moment and getting good seats or standing close to the stage at a smaller venue! I must've done that a hundred times, easily! In my life, I've seen exactly 370 concerts - ah, the memories! While I never saw Neil Young, I did see The Alarm! My biggest regret, Mark? That I wasn't into taking pictures back in the 80's! From '83 to '88, I went to 217 concerts, hung out / partied with many bands. I knew the promo reps with all the major labels and got oodles of free vinyl, posters & tickets. I had a great life for 5 years! Thanks for your kind reply to this old man!
@@jerryfiore5818 wow sounds like you've lived life to the max in just 5 years way to go bud enjoyed the informational chat gonna checkout the alarm now lol
The 80's were such a magical time. Not a worry on my mind. Food miraculously appeared in the fridge, a case of beer was less than $20, not a bill to be paid & IMO, the best music ever. I'm now 57 & I look back on these days with such reverence. Don't get me going on the music of today. Thank Christ for RU-vid.
I'm 60 years + old, I still appreciate a gem like this. The 80's were the shit. We didn't realize how good we had it. What I wouldn't give to climb in the time machine with some of my friends and take a few weeks off
I'm in my mid 40s but I would damn sure take a ride back to the 80s!! Those were my pre teen years but still had a blast!!! Early 90s not as good but still ok, early 00s sucked and today I find myself asking that damn question we all do, what the hell happened???
Paul Reynolds was one of the best guitar players of the 80s. With a unique sound and style. Criminally underrated. No many guitar players sound better live than in the studio.
@@paulreynolds1760 Hi Paul, I'm a big fan of all the 80s guitar greats like Gary Moore etc..but you have such a distinctive sound and fantastic melodies in your playing...always appreciated your playing.
😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ As sound bends through synthesizers as light bends through prisms and color clyde through kaleidoscope light bends softly through our Lilly pads of life... As they stand playing our music from years gone by... Our hearts stands as one together with all men kind thick, and thin tall and small red and yellow black and white even... ("nomads")!!!
@@HughCorbyCruick But isn't it recorded with electric drums??? I seem to recall from he org. Music vid. They used electric drums. For me it's more the usual thing. Hurrying through the song,by playing it fast.
One of my favourite songs of the 80’s. Still love it today. The guitar solo is the finest on any pop record from the 80’s. What a sound. Paul’s sound defined AFOS. Class.
Where would this song ever be without Paul's guitar style and creatively composed little parts, it's like a second vocal line it's so pretty, he really made the bands' sound work so well in the early days. Great band.
Just me speaking, but the guitar was the first "line" that I was following. Even if the vocals did hold their weight as a smart melodic counterpoint, it was really the guitar (and to a lesser extent the synths) that WERE the sound of AFOS's songs. It's what set them apart from everyone else at the time. Certainly not the drums (nothing against this particular drummer, it's just that every 80's band of this ilk seemed to fall back on the same basic head-jerking beat.)
Paul Reynolds will always be an underrated guitarist, even though he single handedly created the wavy 80's guitar sound. Just a genius that needs to be held in higher esteem. And to think he was only a teenager while in this band.
Under rated comment, completely agree. As much as I adore EVH and shredders 80's guitar woulda sucked hard without the clever minimalist splashes and spritzes that Paul (and others) offered.I think 80's pop guitarists in general have been undervalued compared to the Eric Walsh Van Gibbons. Guys like Elliot Easton for example.
I bought him a drink in a pub called the Borough in Sunderland several years ago. He didn't think he was that great a guitarist even though I told him he was.
I was in my 20's when this song came out. Now I'm a father of a 21 and 17 years old, both boys. They told me to show them how to dance this songs, so in the middle of the confinement we plan a back to 80's family party. Just the 4 of us, so we dance, dine and watched more like this, we had a lot of fun. And videos to show to my future grandchildren. Stay safe you all. Blessings
Paul Reynolds proving that you don't have to be overly complicated or play a million different chords to be a really, really, really good guitar player. Certainly one of the best guitarists to come out of the early MTV era, and that statement might be selling him short.
He only played a few notes in this. But his style and the special sound of his guitar makes all the difference. This song wouldn't work without his simple riff and unique sound.
Paul is simply mesmerising. He dances with that guitar, as if it is human. The music is absolutely genius. I could watch this, for the rest of my life...in fact l think l will❣️ WISH I WAS THERE...❤
Paul Reynolds (guitarist) joined the band in 1979, when he was 17. He replaced the original guitarist Willie Woo. He left the band in 1984. In 2003, he rejoined the group for an episode of VH1's Bands Reunited. Before the performance, he was interviewed about why he left the band; he claimed that he was too young for the "rock 'n' roll lifestyle" and that he was exhausted from all of the performances. In early 2018 he rejoined the original lineup for their first new album since 1984's, Ascension.
A Flock of Seagulls, The Fixx, Gary Numan and the Tubeway Army, Billy Idol, The Psychedelic Furs, The Human League and many others of that time were and still are my go-to bands that take me back to the 80's to refresh. Kids today have no idea what true freedom is. So sad...
I reakon youtube should have a feature called 'VHS mode', where if enough people pause a video at a certain place, it inserts fake tracking lines, just so you know a thousand other people have paused and frame-advanced at the same place..... like we used to do back in the 80's.
this live performance kicks ass, i mean just look/listen at that intro...the smoke, the synth wave sound of seagulls, mike score's silhouette and hair amidst the all that smoke, just menacing and fierce 👌
This is one of the best lead guitarists in the world. The guy can take a few notes and fill the whole arena. Very rare. If a hair dress can be a rock starr, anyone can.
Wow, saw these guys in 1983! The Fixx opened for them. One of the loudest concerts I've ever been to. Paul Reynolds was such a unique guitarist and really fun to watch live. This was their last song and by this time the crowd was wrung out. But very satisfied! What fun the '80s were! The '70s were pretty damn cool, too. Like the saying goes . . . I may be old, but I got to see all the cool bands!
As a child I wasn’t sure what ‘tawny’ eyes meant. I changed the lyrics to ‘I never thought I’d meet an owl like you’. I’m a roofer now. Customers often catch me getting my groove on up on their roofs to tracks like this on my 80’s playlist. Great track. One of the really powerful ones for nostalgia.
In my opinion, the 80’s was such a magical time for music as a whole, everything that came out from that era was and is just so magical and stands its ground against any other music era
Im a lifelong drummer and 52 now.played songs from both bands over the years in cover bands.and i love both of those guitar players.but elliot easton is the man.helped our guitar player learn the leads for a few cars songs back in the day.before you could just look on RU-vid.and did a lot of stop and go back on the cd for him.one that comes to mind the most was " best friends girl" lead.had to have it note for note.what a great lead part.
The first time I heard this I was living in Suva, Fiji. It came on the car radio and I was nearly catapulted out of my seat. I loved it from the first few notes and sat mesmerized, listening. I still love it today.
Brings back so many memories from the 80's. Who would've thought back then that their singers hairdo eventually would be adorned by a future president of America.
I love driving down the highway with this blasting at full volume with the windows down. Always get lots of positive reinforcement, thumbs up and waves, smiles.
I was born in 1964 and grew up rockin and rolling until I heard my first Devo song and it was then that I was reborn into New Wave. I will forever love both genres and the music that came from them. Thanks for making my life great!!!
I grew up in Montreal and was fortunate to be in my twenties in 1980. These were as many of you said probably the best decade to be old enough to enjoy everything that was available. I use to hang at this club called the LIMELIGHT, Probably the most popular dance club in the city. When this song came on everybody swarmed the dance floor. What great memories.
Really? That's your post? They sucked in the 80's and this was their only hit...but you claimed you would basically give up your soul... hmmm another idiot....
This takes me back to 1982 driving from Pennsylvania to Maryland to go to the club Deerpark Lodge, in my 1971 Karman Ghia convertible, down the highway with this tape in the cassette player and this song blasting as loud as possible...ahh, good times...
I heard this song on the radio when I came to United States from eastern Europe in 1983 at the age of 14. I remember thinking to my myself: "what I cool song! What a cool country!" Hahaha. I still feel that way!!!!
I don't know if everyone realizes how awesome Paul's guitar playing was, and was single handedly the difference maker in the Seagulls sound. I'm not even sure he knows how revelutionary he was at the time, I think everyone assumed it was synthesizers that was the difference,..... Really amazing and under rated
Arguably the coolest music ever created and recorded. Lucky kids in the audience. Lucky to have this video to one day inspire similar music and creativity.
Yep, we are all parents now, some of us grandparents. But we were kids during the best time imo. New Wave exploded in popularity, and died just as quickly.
Damn, this is always a fantastic song. I always find myself getting lost in the ambience at the beginning of it, and then sucked into the rocking beat and riffs, unable to escape until it ends, yet I never want to end anyways. It's videos like these that make me wish I were a lot older than I am if only so that I could be there to experience the events in-person. Long live the 80's!
I was there, sadly when there everyone wished they were there for the 60's and 70's to witness Blackmore,Page,Hendrix,Clapton.. Blondie was another great group from early 80's... Clem Burke elite drum kit.. Steve Miller was cool in early 80's to.. Billy Thorpe...... Wanna hear something really 80's? Aussie Band Called "The Angels""but in the US had to be billed Angel city due to female group from Jersey.. Doc Neeson the frontman...They were cool and underrated here..,I loved the 80's...
