I'm a Minnesotan by birth though have live most of my life in Iowa. Despite that, 95% of my family live in Northern Minnesota from International Falls to Grand Forks North Dakota. To this day I only feel at home when I visit family there. To bad you didn't find the time to visit the Boundary Waters and Voyageurs National Park for some canoeing. Heaven on Earth up there... Thanks for the great video 🤙
I'm Minnesotan born and raised, but I've lived in nearly a dozen states and many cities. Northern MN and the Boundary Waters in particular is my favorite place on earth.
@@jdpalmer1 I'm a lifer. Grew up in Bloomington and have owned a house 2 miles north just into Minneapolis for the last 31 years. I've come to terms with the fact that no one I vote for will ever win here.
Not sure what Prince thought was bad people. I define "bad" people as those who have no intention of becoming American, suck all our money and taxes, and live here illegally. All the rest that comes with that isn't the root of bad, but is usually the stuff people see and experience affecting their lives. Bad is anti-American government occupying the state.
Minnesotan here and don't let people scare you off from visiting our great State in the winter. There is a lot of fun to be had for an an adventurous soul like yourself. Snow is beautiful! Dress properly and enjoy.
As a neighbor next door (Wisconsin) i love that you are enjoying the upper Midwest. You are showing me places in my own area i didn't even know existed.....and yes....we have albino squirrels here. Thank you Marie
Growing up in Chanhassen, and actually just down the road from Paisley Park, it was always funny to see Prince. He legitimately did like biking so he would cut through our neighborhood to get to another trail. And he really was as small as you would think.
@@DSToNe19and83 Well, I wouldn’t say he was just walking down the street lol but he was just “there”, if that makes sense. Like, you knew where he lived, where his dad lived, etc. but that was it. When he died it was kind of crazy because there was an influx of outsiders and media that went to Paisley and were camped out for a bit.
He once showed up at my house to do his evangelical work. He was a Jehovah Witness and would go door to door once a year. It was the only time I didn’t mind them showing up at my door haha
Sshhh, don't tell anyone how awesome Minnesota is, because word will get out and it won't be the same! Glad you are enjoying our beautiful northern state!
Hey Marie 😃 🌺🇺🇸 Whoa!!! 👀 Up it's Super french fly Whizzing through the evergreen. You showed tremendous spirit for saying it's your first time. It looked thilling & so much fun. I liked how you'll throw us into the thick of the action. It's not going to be without the odd risk but it keeps you on your toes , maybe wear long sleeves next time & have a bandaid ready. I'm glad your wish has been fulfilled. It was a pleasant surprise stopping by Prince hometown , I was wondering if you would. Paisley park 🎶 comes highly recommended even if your not a big fan , you can only order tickets online but they sell out fast. It's a cool larger than life mural , there's also a more ambiguous one in downtown Minneapolis ( cost half a million bucks) that shows 3 different phases of his life. Prince was amazingly talented artist ( that played every instrument , wrote countless songs & crossed musical styles) that's surely missed , there's a purple rain musical heading to Broadway 🕊️ RIP Your Grill wrap 🌮 😋 looked so fresh & tasty , I dunno if the banana pepper is gonna catch on , kinda weird , a nice laid back vibe , they do say the Mediterranean diet is among the best for a long life. The Arboretum is definitely up there with the best , beautiful & serene. Wow! the 🖼️ are colourful superbly done , a expensive luxury , I think I would rather pay for lessons & paint my own like Bob Ross. The Gardens had alot of pretty flowers of different varieties. It looks like a wonderful haven for all the critters 🐰🐿️🐦to roam around free in , look out for those Japanese beatles , ha your never catch that 🐍 , they've created a magical landscape that leaves a memorable mark. If your in Minnesota it's a must see. Susi 🍜 was delicious , i don't think we've seen you use chopsticks before. What better way to wrap things up then a playful walk with the doggies , like the cool sweatshirt. Merci beaucoup Super Marie , it's been a blast , see you again soon , have the day you deserve , take care 🌞🌳🧡✌️
In Minnesota we don't care if you film we encourage it so glad you are having fun people always ask what is there to do in Minnesota your showing them a great representation of our area
I live in North Dakota and its amazing how much the scenery changes from one state to the next. ND does not have a lot of tree, but as soon as you cross the border into MN, there are trees everywhere. Last weekend my wife and I went camping in MN and she couldn't believe all the trees that were there. Great video glad your having fun.
Two of my grandparents were from there ,their farms are now museums!! It's a beautiful state ! Hope your working your way east come across the upper peninsula of Michigan and down through my state you'll love it
Ah, Marie, I'm glad you seem to have had a nice time here in Minnesota. I used to run the Bud Break 5K at the Arboretum every spring, just as the tulips and daffodils and redbuds were blooming. The Arb is really a treasure. Have taken note of Kerfoot Canopy Tours for my teenaged nephews' next visit -- you're even giving locals tips! Looking forward to your time on the North Shore, which, along with Torres del Paine in Chile, is one of my favorite places on Earth.
Marie, so happy that you have finally gotten to go zip lining! It sucks that you got a cable burn, but it's a small price to pay for flying through the trees. I always choose at least one cable run to start off backwards. It just feels awesome to fall backward. You ought to try it sometime. The Arboretum looked impressive, and I'm pretty sure that the animal you thought was a beaver was actually a Marmot. I've hiked several places in Washington State where they live and I've been up close to them so I've gotten a good look at them. It's cool that you've gotten to see so much and I couldn't help but laugh when you mentioned being hot and then the very next scene you're wearing a sweater! 🤣 It's also good that you get to take the dogs for a walk as well. Dogs are always fun to be around and they just want to play. I hope you continue to have an awesome time in Minnesota. Take care and keep smiling! 😃
As a native Minnesotan I love living here but in a country with so much natural beauty our state is easily overlooked! Not that I’m complaining because i like Minnesota to be the best kept secret that it is! Our North shore of Lake Superior is absolutely one of the most awe inspiring places I have ever visited, and I have visited all over the western U.S.
Prince grew up in North Minneapolis. That area isn't a tourist destination. Chanhassen is where his studio and mansion are located. Animal was a woodchuck. Duluth is really nice.
Just discovered your channel thanks to the almighty RU-vid algorithm. Minnesotan here, 5th (!) generation in fact. Love the arboretum. Only been there a couple times as it's kind of out of the way, but I recognized some of the vantage points you shared. Amazing to know I have a lived experience in common with someone halfway across the globe!
The MN arboredum also has a few hiking trails to the left of the entrance that are easily missed(stay on the trails). You can see, but NOT pick, many wild edible mushrooms depending on the time of year such as morels, chanterelles, black trumpet, hedgehog, porcini, oyster, Lobster(actually a mold that makes a non edible mushroom delicious). Many of these mushrooms or relatives are popular to be foraged and eaten in France!
Now that's a zipline trail! Minnesota is truly a stunning, clean state that naturally embrasses the beauty of it's countryside. 🖐from Wisconsin...we're pretty too!
Glad youre enjoying it here. I grew up in Oakdale and didnt realize then how lucky I was to have such a beautiful large park to explore and walk around..
The brown furry animal is know as a Ground Hog or Woodchuck. The are in the rodent family and dig burrows with extensive tunnels. They are a natural addition to the forest but when close to human habitation can be very damaging with their tunneling. They also think buried wires are like roots and chew through them.
Marie glad to see you are enjoying what the us has to offer. I imagine traveling as you are doing can be quite the undertaking but the fact you are willing to take on the challenge is really commendable. Hope everything goes as smoothly as possible on your journey.
Forgive me Marie, I forgot you are dropping two videos a week now, and what a great video this is. I don't think I've seen you so excited about something as you were about the ziplining, and I can see why. It seems like a really fun thing to do, and you handled it like a pro. I'm glad you got some cream for your burn. I recently had a burn, and I had to apply cream and it healed quickly. I hope your burn healed quickly also. Merci beaucoup for another great video!
You were barely able to contain your excitement over ziplining! So fun to watch. There's something satisfying about the sound it makes as you glide along! Sorry you got that friction burn. It will heal and disappear soon. The arboretum - stunning! You continue to be drawn to the most amazing places in your travels. Well done!
You were practically in my backyard at the Arboretum. When Prince was alive and living in his house it was livingjust down the road from him and saw him a couple times in his car and motorcycle. Fun to see you here.
I live in Chanhassen. Glad you enjoyed your stay. I love the Japanese garden at the Arboretum. When the water level is lower on the St Croix, there are canoe rentals from Taylor Falls to Interstate Park. There’s a few beaches along the way to stop for a picnic and a swim.😊
Thanks for another great video, Marie. New subscriber to your channel and a Wisconsinite. These videos are a great reminder of the beauty of this country and in our own backyards.
Bonjour Marie! Awww...sorry you got hurt, but it looked like you had fun and you powered thru your injury! 💪 I hope it didn't give you any troubles over the next few days. Love Middle Eastern food. Here in the Metro Detroit area, we have the largest Arabic population in the US, and that means some great Middle Eastern food places! thanks for sharing! Bonne journee! ~Be Blessed
I'm so glad you're enjoying MN! I've seen a couple other videos of your time here, including one in which you were very close to my neighborhood (Minnehaha falls is right across the river from my home in St Paul). Looking forward to more.
If you ever get to croatia, there's some amazing ziplining outside of split. The first one is several hundred feet on the air and almost a minute going 80+ kph
As we say in Minnesota (tongue in cheek), that the mosquito is our state bird. Also I am very happy you enjoyed the Arboretum. One of my professors in college is responsible for much of the shrub selection and breeding of new cultivars there.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventures. WOW, a white squirrel. The first and only white squirrel I have ever seen. I am so sorry that you got burned on the cables. Be safe and as always, have fun.
Hello, I like your videos. I'm from Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Thanks for sharing. I'm happy you're enjoying your time here. I hope everything goes well god bless take care peace ✌️.
One of the best restaurants in the country is in Minneapolis. Owamni by the Sioux Chef won James Beard’s restaurant of the year in 2022. It serves “de-colonized” ingredients and Native American cuisine.
It's great to see you've made it to Minnesota! I've lived in Chanhassen, and Excelsior. The entire SW metro area is so nice and natural (and expensive!). The hills, lakes, and trees are easy to take for granted. It's nice to see it through a 1st time visitor! Best of luck on your journey!!
Your zipline smile brought me back to my first zipline experience. It was 1,500 feet straight down over a former Olympic ski slope in Park City, Utah. There were no brakes but they had people at the bottom to help you slow down. It looks like you picked the perfect time to see the arboretum.
Now you need to come back and go canoeing in the boundry waters. Nothing like it in France. I recommend that you go after the first freeze. No mosquitoes or flies. About september 18. Yes you will need warm clothing . It may get down to minus 4 C.at night. The lakes will be empty, you may see only one other canoe all day, depending on your route.
They say the mosquito is the state bird of Minnesota. All those lakes give them lots of places to breed. I think that was a garter snake you tried to catch. I can't say which is the best arboretum in the country. Some other really good ones: Hawai‘i Tropical Botanical Garden on The Big Island Filoli in Woodside, California Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona And for one outside of the U.S., there's Butchart Gardens in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia.
That was such a fun and beautiful experience. The zipline is something everybody should experience once in their lifetime. So glad you were able to check it off of your bucket list. That arboretum was made for you. That was all beautiful and nature filled. That white squirrel is a sign of good luck! I am 58 years old, and I've never seen one in my life. My compliments on a great job filming and editing. ❤👍😃
IT's very under rated by people that don't live here. But well appreciated by people that grew up here and I grew up in the twin cities. In the middle of St Paul. But I still love going out into the wilds and drive everywhere from the outwe parts of Minnesota to WIsconsin and Iowa. Just collowing State 8 you can find amazing places along the St Croix river for example. Or Taylor's Falls. My favorite place for me to go as a child. To go "climb the rocks" (you'll see what I mean once you get there) One of those wonderful places along the Minnesota side of the river. Just a few small examples. Then in St Paul proper with the fair ground sand the I believe the US' only remaining free zoo. and yes the arboretum and the lists from the twin cities to the outlying towns just have amazing sites to see and places to explore.
I. Am originally from Michigan and after college had a sales job that enabled me to travel in most States of the US for years. The Midwest is underrated. I found each area of the US to have its unique and beautiful areas. I’ve lived in different areas of the country and while I found incredible laces in each area, the two places that disappointed me were Las Vegas and Florida but I am very sensitive to heat/humidity and get sun poisoning and Vegas just struck me as so gaudy and overdone. But to each their own; have friends who love Florida and one who loved to gamble and thought Vegas was paradise!
Marie, you should get a Thermacell to keep from getting bit by mosquitoes. It works and it's easy to carry. I've only had one trip to Minnesota but it was quite lovely. We went to a Twins baseball game and had a blast.
I love your channel and wide-eyed curiosity of the places you visit. Thanks for the details and taking us with you on the journey. Maybe Alaska might be interesting one day. I heard Valdez is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing!! It's kinda neat to see you in my home state. Northern Minnesota could be a video all on it's own. Hugs and kissess from Minnesota!
Ziplining such an amazing experience! I got to try the first time last November, but I was in Hawaii! Glad to see you having such amazing times exploring my birth state. So many people overlook Minnesota and the rest of the Midwest. Hope you jumped the border into Wisconsin! Need to see those videos SOONEST!
Hi, Marie. I like your channel and will have to check out more videos. Never knew about Kerfoot Canopy before (thanks for that tip!), but I currently live about ten minutes away from downtown Chanhassen so I definitely recognized all the other locations in this video. I’m glad you mentioned that Honeycrisp apples originated here. It’s too bad you’re here just a few weeks too early! Soon the Arboretum Apple House will start selling their crop of fresh First Kiss apples. When orchard-fresh, these are apple perfection! I supposed you’ve probably moved on by now, but if you’re still in the area, I’d be happy to point you to some other local treasures!
Talk about a beautiful day for zip lining. You definitely lucked out on this one! That's one activity that is definitely on my bucket list for sure. Looking forward to day 5 in Minnesota! Cheers! 🍻🌞✈️🌎🇺🇸
Minnesota is beautiful. Actually, the best arboretum in the US is the Morton arboretum just outside of Chicago, in the suburb of Lisle. It takes about 45 minutes to drive through, but t can be walked through also. It has a scent garden, a hedge maze, a large visitor center, a great children's garden, and trees from all over the world. Something else to add to the list of things to see in Chicago! (Note: the Meier Garden is also excellent in Grand Rapids, Michigan.)
You do realize that you simply saying "actually, the best..." is just an opinion? I suspect you haven't been to every arboretum in the U.S. It's your opinion, just as she has hers.
Im so glad you are here in the upper mid west and enjoying Minnesota. Come to southern Wisconsin, and help an old man with his bucket list if you are sill in the area, and give me a hug :) I could share the best summer sausage, home made maple syrup, and moonshine made at home also.
First things first, love the braids. They're very pretty on you Ok now that the compliment is said, let's work on Minnesota. I have friends from Buffalo, NY who moved to Duluth. They rave about the summers....but what keeps them underrated is their winter. Snow, cold, snow, cold, snow, cokd...Inthink you get my point
