A GUIDE FOR VAN LIFE

I wanted to leave a few thoughts on living and traveling inside a van. From buying and building out a van, to finally traveling around. Here's my quick guide for vanlife.
My experience started out like this:
I jumped right in to living in my van, when i decided to quit uni. I bought a van and built it out. The day i had finished the bed was the day i had to move out of my apartment aswell. I finished the build and headed to Austria, where i got a job to finance my stay. I stayed for half a year, living full time in my van. When summer came around, I left Austria to travel around Europe and going back to my home town Hamburg. I met various van life people along the way and the whole experience taught me a lot about what you really need for van life.
I would love to hear your story!
Feel free to leave questions down in the comments :)

Great build. Did you use dedicated winter tyres or all season?
@ARTVENTUREFILMS
@ARTVENTUREFILMS 3 года назад
I bought the van with summer tyres so i had to get dedicated winter tyres for Austria. It made sense, since they have a lot of snow and ice. For my new van i got all season tyres though :)

Hey man i hope you will read this but i have a question about the van. Im about to buy almost exactly the same car (only its not a fire truck) and i was wondering how many fuel it uses (if its diesel). And the second question does it make a lot of noise? Like if you would sit with two people in the front could you have a normal conversation with oneanother? Love your video's btw man! Keep up the good stuf
@ARTVENTUREFILMS
@ARTVENTUREFILMS 3 года назад
Hey man, of course i will read it! Thanks for reaching out :) Awesome you're getting such a car. Mine was running on petrol and the best i got on the highway was about 11-12l for 100km (but i'm not sure because it's been so long since i calculated that). So i would say 12 on highways and maybe like 14-15 in the cities. The noise is alright if you're not driving too fast. i was only going 90km/h because of fuel consumption and loudness. You can talk, but the noise is definitely there. As a comparison, driving more than 90, like 100 and upwards will make talking to each other super hard or no preferrable. My best advice, be prepared to pay more on diesel and maybe test the loudness when test driving it. Unfortuantely this is what you get with older cars. I love them though😃 And thanks for the kind words man! Hope this helps.

You make van life look fun! Also, Do you edit your videos on a 25p timeline?
@ARTVENTUREFILMS
@ARTVENTUREFILMS 4 года назад
It can be a lot of fun! It can be very tough too though.😉 I edit on a 23.976 timeline, don't really know why. It could be 24 or 25 too, i suppose it doesn't really matter.

Did you use some kinda armaflex insulation? And was it warm in the winter with that after you heated it up, or did the heat flow away quickly?
@ARTVENTUREFILMS
@ARTVENTUREFILMS 3 года назад
Yeah i used 39mm armaflex, because i thought the thicker the better. Only on the floor i used 19mm. Unfortunately, i didn't think it made such a big difference. At least not using the thick stuff. I would go as far and say a good heating system for the night and insulated windows are more important than regular insulation. But it does help with vibration noises and everything as well so i used 19mm on my new build too. To answer your question, with that huge wood burner it was insanely warm in the van. And it stayed warm for a couple of hours and beyond. It really depends on your heating system, because a fire will go out and get cold too. Once the heatsource is gone i would guess with a well insulated van, you'll have about 2-3 hrs before feeling the temperatures drop (depending on how cold it is outside).

Thumbs up. ;) But in my opinion there was a few design flaws. Or it is just because I worked as an LKW driver.
@ARTVENTUREFILMS
@ARTVENTUREFILMS 4 года назад
Thanks 😃 You mean design flaws with my van? You're definitely right! So many things I want to do different on the next build :) But what were you thinking? Anything in particular? Might be something I haven't thought of? Thanks!
@BloodAcidPro
@BloodAcidPro 4 года назад
@@ARTVENTUREFILMS Yes yes the van. :D Well there is a lot of unused space what you could put cabinets to. For example above your bed. Both sides of the monitor. Result of this not too much floor space. A roof window is a must. A 12V ventilator above the ... fireplace? In winter its good for moving the hot air, in summer it is priceless. Noneed for AC. Floor carpet. Etc. There is a few things I cant translate. Not simply in text.
@ARTVENTUREFILMS
@ARTVENTUREFILMS 4 года назад
@@BloodAcidPro Very true! It could've been a lot more practical. I really should have had a ventilator above the fire stove and you have some other good points too! Maybe the next build won't be as quick, so I can document a litte more and you can help me with ideas😃 Already keen for another build anyways :)
