Today I am explaining the different scenting-oils, tips & tricks about purchasing them, how to pick out fragrances, where to buy them, etc. Then I'm sharing my top picks! My top picks are updated regularly. My favorite scents change as I discover new scents. They'll all be linked at the bottom!
Choosing fragrances can be a dauting task; there’s so many fragrances & different types of oils! Absolute Oils are highly concentrated essences obtained from botanicals. ***It takes more than 30 roses to make 1 drop of Rose Absolute Oil! This is why they are SO expensive. The difference between absolute & essential oils is the extraction method. Synergy blends are made up of 2 or more essential oils that work best together. Each blend provides a specific benefit to your health. Diluted Oils contain absolute or essential oil that’s been diluted in order to offer it at a more affordable price. Fragrance oils are artificially produced & synthetically compounded with aroma chemicals and natural ingredients like essential oils, extracts, and resins. Every now & then I’ll use other oils, but I mainly use fragrance oils. Personally, I feel like absolute & essential oils have a limited variety of scents to choose from versus fragrance oils.. Plus, they’re also really expensive.
Purchase scents that are skin safe (if using for bath products) & free of parabens & phthalates. Always check usage rates; they are extremely important & vary with each fragrance. **** PRO TIP: Always purchase fragrances that have a high usage rate!!! If you use a total fragrance rate of 5% (you do if you use any of my recipes), then buying a FO with a max usage rate of 2% isn't going to work. The higher, the better. Keep in mind that if a scent is safe for soap, this doesn’t automatically mean it’s safe for lotion. The IFRA certificate will have detailed information & percentages for each category. Read the reviews; they reveal how a fragrance smells & performs.

Don’t buy a big bottle if you’re not sure; it’s better to waste 3 dollars than 20. When you find a scent you love, the bigger bottles are cheaper per ounce. Only buy scents that you’ll use. ***I speak from experience; I've purchased many scents that I liked, but that I'll probably NEVER use! Fragrances have a very long shelf life, but they do eventually expire. I’ve had most scents for over 10 years & in that time only 2 went bad.
