Miscanthus × giganteus, also known as the giant miscanthus
Gigantueus is perennial but not evergreen
bamboo-like stems that can grow to heights of 3-4 metres (13 ft) in one season (from the third season onwards).
Negative emissions, high carbon sequestration, water cleaning properties.
Further, miscanthus' high carbon to nitrogen ratio makes it inhospitable to many microbes, creating a clean bedding for poultry, cattle, pigs, horses, and companion animals. Miscanthus used as horse bedding can be combined with making organic fertilizer.[1] Miscanthus can also be used as a fibre source in pet food
Reading on Wikipedia it’s almost a miracle plant, absorbs lots of carbon, doesn’t use lots of water, produces lots of biomass which can be used as a bi product.
Vigorous but not invasive, clump forming, doesn’t produce viable seeds.
Vigorous, clump-forming, deciduous grass, to 3.5m tall, with strong, upright stems bearing long, pendulous, narrow, dark green leaves, with pale, silvery midribs, which turn yellow in autumn, fading to pale brown in winter. Feathery, pyramidal flower panicles to 40cm long open pale pink during long, hot summers, fading to bleached-silver and remaining on the plant over winter
Grow in any moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun, best in an open position. Protect from excessive winter wet.
Propagate by division in spring - can be slow to establish
Ultimate height
2.5-4 metres
Time to ultimate height
2-5 years
Ultimate spread
1.5-2.5 metres
Moisture
Moist but well-drained, Well-drained
pH
Acid, Alkaline, Neutra
Pruning

H6: hardy in all of UK and northern Europe (-20 to -15)
Miscanthus can be deciduous or evergreen grasses with tufted or spreading habit, erect stems bearing arching, linear leaves and terminal panicles of silky spikelets in late summer or autumn

Hello, I bought 4 of these in 2020 in 9cm pots, I planted them in April. By the end of September they were 7 feet tall and 2 feet wide at the base. This year they're a about 12 feet tall and are just over 3 feet at the base. They're amazing plants and grow unbelievably fast, black birds and Robins love rummaging around inside them for insects. Also for those of use that have wood stoves the stems make great kindling 😊

@@MarksHouseandGardenUK To be honest with you I was shocked by how fast and big they grow. I read that they are easy to divide but I found the opposite, it's just a huge knot of thick knobbly roots it was a nightmare to divide them. They are beautiful plants but the need lots of space.

We all make these mistakes 😂 I planted variegated ground elder in a poor area and have regretted it forever! Could you not have contacted the supplier and arranged a change of grasses?
