What a wonderful idea, a garden of grasses. Something we do not find easily or at all for sale in our garden centers. But we have many growing in the wild and with beautiful plumes all summer long. They are the most responsible for allergies 😁. In the past I brought a few home and planted them in the garden but althought they were growing small along the country walkways, they grew enormous in my garden and I ended up having to lift them. Should I have a larger garden the Stipa would be the ones I would choose. They are both beautiful but the tenuissima is so compact, no wonder is your favourite. The Arundo donax variegated is gorgeous, I had never seen it before. Different story with the normal one, we have it here everywhere, having been planted to divide small properties and protect the cultures from the wind. They are terribly invasive though...
I've always loved ornamental grasses. It reminds me of my childhood and living near the Atlantic Ocean in New York City, USA. Thank you for this informative and beautiful video.
Awesome video! Grasses are my very favorite! Wish i had more room to plant some more like this garden! I do have both the Dona and love them much. When I visited Ireland I did see the miscanthus with the pink plumes and was quite taken by it! Thanks for sharing this!
Im desperate for the arundo donax now. The stipa tenuissima is absolutely beautiful too im going to have to get my bank card. Look what you've done! Thanks for the fantastic tips
I really enjoyed your accented narration of the different grasses. I'm just about to add my 1st type of grass (fireworks) to my garden. Thank you the insightful video. Your pleasantries on grasses were enjoyable. Well done!
Great video really useful! I hope you have many more videos about grasses! i'm planning to go with grasses next year on my balcony here in windy Copenhagen :(
Wonder if our native seaoats would fair there in Ireland? It's one of my favorite native grasses here. Doubtful it'd grow there, but it sure is pretty!
Thanks for the video. I like Stipa Tenuissima myself. I planted some two years ago. They're beautiful but have one big downside: they're invasive and spread super fast.. As I live close to a nature reserve I'm going to remove them.
You want Arundo donax variegata? Just come to Florida, it is sold everywhere, and smuggle it back with you. 😉 No Blue Fescue (Festuca glauca)? The foliage provides interest all year.
@@GardeningatDouentza yes..i wasnt paying attention. by the way, have you come across this grass before? its stipa joannis celak. and isnt the music just so haunting and evocative? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WD4C6iyD5cQ.html
