"How did you find America?" "Turn left at Greenland." "Are you a modder or a rocker?" "No, I'm a mocker." "What do you call your haircut?" "Arthur." "No, actually, we're just good friends."
Three of them are at ease. Paul is not at his best. It's grandfather's fault, a real troublemaker. Paul is so ashamed of his grandpa...although the latter is very clean.
"Are you a mod or a rocker?" "Uh, no, I'm a mocker." Ringo was best known for his malapropisms. He's the one who actually inspired the title "A Hard Day's Night". "Eight Days a Week" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" are also based on Ringoisms.
My favourite part of this entire scene is the look on the woman reporter's face when looking at John's "hobbies" note -- it was brilliant to leave it up to the audience to imagine what John wrote.
0:52 George's best friend was a boy named Arthur Kelly. They met in school when they were 11. Arthur played guitar too and he and George formed a group called The Rebels. George actually asked Arthur to join The Beatles as a bass player but he refused because he had landed an apprenticeship and had no money to buy a bass. He eventually became an actor. He was in a British show 'Coronation Street' and in a lot of movies including 'Calendar Girls' When George called his hairstyle 'Arthur' it was in tribute to his best friend. 😊
Reporter: "Tell me, uh, how did you find America?" John: "Turn left to Greenland". Reporter: "Do you often see your father?" Paul: "No, actually we're just good friends". Reporter: "Err, what did you call that, uh, hairstyle you're wearing?" George: "Arthur". Reporter: "Are you a mod or a rocker". Ringo: "Uh, no, I'm a mocker".
*sigh* No words can express my love for George Harrison :P This movie made me fall in love with all of them, but especially George!!!! Gaaahhhh why was I born in 1990?! I love Ringo's laugh when she asks how he likes his girlfriends to dress! Aaahhhh the Beatles will always be the best
I loved this scene!!!!! What do you call that collar? A collar. Had success changed your life? Yes. Do you often see your father? No actually were just good friends. Those r my favorite parts in that scene. RINGO ROCKS!!!!!!!
This scene was actually inspired by a press interview/reception after the group went to America. The group hated the soft ball questions they were given & especially how nasty the British press was to them. Peter Brown, their publicist said a reporter actually took out a pair of small scissors & cut off a lock of Ringo’s hair in the back.
Oh those silly lads of ours! What are we going to do with them? They're all so cute and funny! I love that Paul says that he and his dad are "just good friends". Hilarious!
When the life Ringo and take him away was a direct portrayal of just how tight the four of them were in those days. They loved each other, stood up for each other and always banded together in real life back then. In a session at the British embassy in 1964, when John found out that someone clipped a lock of Ringo's hair, he simply left the event. One can only speculate how things would have been had Brian Epstein lived.
I luv Paul!"No actually were just good friends" "No actually were just good friends" "Do you often see your father?" "No actually were just good friends" and John "How did you find america?" " :/ I turned left to Greenland :D" -3-3-3-3-3
How did you find America? John: "Turned left at Greenland. xD" Paul: "I'd like to keep Britain tidy." What would you call that hairstyle you're wearing? George: "Arthur." What do you call that collar? Ringo: "Uhm...A collar." And alll of George's picture faces.
Also I think this scene presages two scenes from Spinal Tap: First Nigel discussing his 'musical trilogy' and says it;s "sort of a combination of Mozart and Bach. Like a Mach." And the second is this entire scene, which is a lot like the record company party at the beginning of Spinal Tap. The one with Frank Drescher and Sir Eaton Hogg :)
