That key spot is for your key fob if the battery runs out. If you place the key fob in there the truck will notice it in there with no battery to start the car

Just picked up the 18 Lariat 4x4, it’s pretty great. Was skeptical about the 2.7 but from Ocala FL to Springfield IL it ran like a dream. Being a field tech I hate myself for not finding out about cooled and heated seats sooner. So nice.....

That spot is for when your key fob when your battery is almost dead you place your fob in there and it starts the truck. Don't people read their manuals anymore.

For getting the cup holders out easier, twist them u too the tabs line up with the center channel that connects the two cup holders and you can simp!e grab the tabs! Also for the key spot, mine is under the forward center console under the rubber mat , push forward the compartment door and lift out the rubber mat and there is a key spot! At least on my 2018 3.5 ecoboost F150

that "hidding place" is where you put the key fob to turn the vehicle on when the key fob battery is dead. the truck will recognize the key fob (while the battery is dead) and will turn on.

That compartment is not for hiding ur key .. its to program ur spare as a valet key .. my 18 xlt has the same thing but mine isn't push start .. my fob has a key for the ignition

That little slot is used when programming a new key at the dealership. There’s a similar slot/location in all fords for when we’re programming a new key

My 17 is in the same spot. Basically it is close to the module that receives the signal from your fob. Your fob has an NFC transmitter like your cellphone that has easy pay (Near field communication) which also allows your to start your truck with a dead battery in your fob. It just has to be close for nfc to work

Yes, there is another hiding spot! They sell an adapter and you can use the back seat, driver side to pull the seat forward for additional storage ! 😮 You’re very welcome … Greg Coogle

Hey Chad It's Patrick Guffey again, giving you an​ update so far I'm enjoying my 2018 450 Platinum edition Super duty that my wife had ordered for me. I'm letting you know that I have made my own hiding spot, when my wife special ordered my truck she had the Ford's lock box under the center console, but anyway what I did I made I had made a dummy floor out of a thin piece of aluminum, I measured the inner dementions and then what I scuffed both sides of the piece of aluminum, sprayed one side flat black, and when the paint dried really good I lightly scuffed the top side and then I glued on some left over speaker box material on the top side. before I started doing anything I had put a small groove in the aluminum so that way if I needed to remove it for any reason it would be easy too take out. but what I did on my other truck key fob I put a piece of industrial strength two sided tape and I taped my other truck key fob to the bottom of the aluminum, and the best part is that if you open the lock box it looks like nothing is there. On a different subject can you please help me with a annoying issue? can you please talk to the service department to see if I can someway disable the horns from beeping and also can you please ask the service department if I can possibly change the driver's side keypad to a different code? again I like the videos you're doing keep them coming VERY GOOD JOB Patrick.👍👍👍👍

This spot can also be used if your key freezes. I've come back from lengthy snowshoeing a few times to find the key is too cold and the truck cannot recognize it. So you unlock it with the physical key, put it in that "hiding spot" and the truck will now recognize that the key is in the vehicle and you can drive off.

You can also use that spot to start you truck if the battery is completely dead!

That spot is also used to find original code for keyless entry if you have the 5 button keypad on the door. You need both key fobs for that.

I was watching a vid on the F-150 production line and wondered when/how they pair up keys to the trucks (as I was watching them being tested during/after production I wondered when the key was introduced on the assembly line). It is also there for if you have the push button start and the battery in the key fob dies you can still start the truck.

Why don’t you show something useful like how you adjust your fuel mileage to read more accurate by using hec test mode. Or how you can pull down the backrest on the backseat behind the drivers seat with the hidden strap? You know things that aren’t in the owners manual.

My f150 has this metal black case thing in the back. Maybe someone can tell me its actual purpose. It looked like you can put a baseball bat in there but it wouldn't fit through the metal side though if you look at the top then you will see that there is a cut out too slip in the length of the bat in. So yeah that's my discovery.
