Like I wrote on fb, I’m fascinated by this tunes! As I discovered this I was blown away because of the arrangements. To see the documentary how they made it and how complex it was is so amazing. I never listen to jazz music before. I’m really happy that he did bring his dreams to life. His love for this project is touching to see and to hear ♥️

Phil was the reason I got into jazz, with his mention of Buddy Rich and Weather Report, so I was made up when he did this album and tour. There's a great version on Wot Gorilla/Afterglow out there as a bootleg.

There's a great full live video on youtube of the big band from my home city. Should be able to find it by searching "Phil Collins Pori Jazz 1998". Some of the videos say Helsinki but it's from the city of Pori :)

A few weeks after this album was released I got it for my 16th birthday. As a fan I listened to it and immediately put it into my record collection, far away from other more rotating PC & G albums. That was because that time I wasn't really into jazz/big band. But over the years especially during the 2000s - independently from PC - I discovered jazz fusion, Latin funk and so-called old-school R&B though Quincy Jones, Dave Grusin, Al Jarreau etc. Then me being more audiophile while re-discovering 'A Hot Night In Paris' I found out it had some contributors who had notable references, for example Sammy Nestico (arranger for Jones), Don Murray (engineer for Grusin) or George Duke (keyboardist for Jarreau). Listening to this album today it never ceases to amaze me, not only what a great musician PC is/was, but also what different cracks he worked with throughout his career (1968 to 2022) which also shows how coveted as a colleague he must have been.

This album is one of the albums I used as a reference to test out my audio equipment because the album was very well-recorded - better than many jazz albums I owned. In fact, the album came out at exactly the same time when audiophiles were raving over one of those jazz albums in SACD or DTS 5.1 audio formats. This was a missed opportunity to use A Hot Night in Paris as a cash-in for those formats as well and I'm sure audiophiles would've beat this album to death. You were right about the timeline. The band did some shows here and there before the Dance into the Light tour started in '96 like Montreux, then the Dance tour started in '97 and the big band was put aside for a while, then they begin touring again as a big band in '98 up until '99 according to this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JQ9bAwIiAE0.html

Yah this would sound good on a new system. I think Spotify or apple has a “headphones” playlist or a playlist meant to use to test your sound system. And I think “This Must Be Love” is on that playlist. I’d also say “Do You Remember” is a good track to hear the full range.
