You should start your bowl on the right. Then you don't have to turn it over. Great tutorial.

Just a quick tip that if you cut your fabric strips on the bias then you won't get any fraying down the sides xx

I have loved making these bowls, especially for unique gifts. Lately I’ve been adding some decorative stitches, and I plan to add a large hole wooden bead to the loop & knot ending of my next one! So many possibilities! 😘💗

I sew with rope a lot. I use pins and clips to hold the fabric. I've discovered that if you wrap the fabric around the rope before you start making the bowl is is easier to work with. When you are finished you have a long rope covered in fabric and it is now ready for you to make the bowl, or rug, or whatever. When you finish the bowl hold it up to the light to see where your breaks are. If they are small I ignore them, but if they are big and go back and fix them.

While watching this video, this process you describe was going through my mind, wondering if it would be easier to wrap the rope first. I have never made a rope bowl and looking forward to giving it a try. Thanks for sharing this tip!

I love using paracord for projects like this, they melt beautifully and the out lining doesn't shrink as much as the laundry line. It is super popular for outdoor camping projects which is how I was introduced to it, making key chains, camping accessories and other fun durable outdoorsy cord projects.

Moda makes their own version of a jelly roll that's only 1.5" wide. They call it a Honey Bun. It's quicker, if you can find a collection that has your colors, than cutting the strips in half.

Did not hear you say if you sewed back and forth or used locking stitch at the very beginning. Also with nylon rope inside would it burn too much if you lightly singed those loose strings at end instead of cutting them. Not a hard burn just quick singe. just found your show a few days ago and have been binge watching like crazy, love it.
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting 2 года назад
Aw thank you so much! I am glad you've enjoyed the videos! I think you could absolutely burn the rope just a bit at the beginning to seal off any frayed edges. That is a great suggestion!

So many jelly rolls come with pinking scissor edge ? Does that work ?
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting Год назад
Yes! It leaves a little bit of lint confetti around while working with it, but you treat it just the same and line up the edges 🥰

I was wondering if you used a nylon/polyester blend of rope? Or what kind did you use or recommend??? Also the thickness??? I want to go with a nylon blend???? Because of kids! 🥰 Thanks
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting Год назад
This is a good question. I liked the cotton rope because I was using my really good sewing machine. you could go with a nylon blend, but I would switch to a stronger needle that is made of thicker material and is stronger... You might have to do a little more research on what your machine can handle too. I'd hate to give it more than it can handle. If you do find what works, let me know? I'd love to hear how it works for you

I love your videos. My issue is that my bowl base is not ....flat....am I lifting my beginning "coaster" too soon? They have been ending up with a "bubble butt"... what am I doing incorrectly....help. thank you in advance.
@ISeeStarsQuilting
@ISeeStarsQuilting Год назад
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 a bubble bowl butt LOL Thank you, that made me laugh so hard. Yes, I would think that you are lifting too soon. Keep it flat at least until you get to about the size of a large drink coaster. If you don't have a big enough base, your bowl won't be stable. Good luck, you got this!

There are some very fun industrial ropes out there in a variety of colors and fiber contents that work beautifully without using any fabric at all. There are several brands that offer multi colored ropes with black and red and blue and white for instance. The finished effect has a slightly more modern look.
@sandrapirnie2296
@sandrapirnie2296 Год назад
Also, you may want to consider using just cotton rope with a decorative stitch and variegated thread. The effects are wonderful. Look up a tutorial by Christopher. Newman for some very interesting and creative options.
