Goldlink has an inflated ego. I feel like when he called out Uzi it showed a side of him being petty for such a "non-issue". After he wrote that post addressing Mac's death, it really showed his narcissistic side. The fact that he pissed off Anderson .Paak of all people says a LOT. He killed off any chance he had at a long career, it speaks volumes when you realize that Goldlink had no balls to say any of this shit while Mac was still alive and well.
@V3NoM Uzi Copied the DMV Flow (Regional Rapping Flow for DC Maryland Virginia Rappers) and Uzi Collaborated With Rico Nasty and Shabazz PBG to show love to His Inspirations but GoldLink Made it Known Mainstream Everyone Knew From the Area
@@jimmyhooks FR I listen to it all the time I cut off GoldLink so it always starts at "She sees money all around me... Nothing else except Shy Glizzy verse n the hook
The timing, platform and how he went about it was wrong. Even if that was his truth, he seemed too eager to let it be known. Maybe years later if his approach was different maybe it would have been heard differently. But he seemed eager to say he inspired Mac and showed resentment towards him and it was just distasteful considering no one really knows Goldlink outside of “crew” and Macs death was still fresh to the world.
Also ppl aren’t going to believe him since Mac Miller came out when I was in high school like 10-12 years ago. Crew came out in 2016-2017…not saying it’s impossible, but it’s just odd.
Lmao when I just heard it and never know who Brent was I thought of that to cuz usually the main artist gotta have more in the songs than features to me atm
He literally took advantage of macs death as his opportunity to publicly claim Mac essentially ripped off his music and put words in Macs mouth with no receipts to prove his point. The thing that is so fcked up about it is that you KNOW 100% if Mac were still alive he’s saying none of this shit.
I always thought Goldlink was weird for that letter. I like some of his music, but that was very very uncalled for and I can’t say he deserved to be blackballed but I also can’t say he didn’t
I knew a girl from Bowie, MD who used to mess with Goldlink before his music started to get noticed. She called him a narcissistic verbally abusive pig. Goldlink’s actions over the years makes her comments more believable.
Only started listening to mac miller recently, His music is beautiful and It sucks learning this story, it always sucks when an artist Disrespects or uses a deceased artists name for clout. Hope everyone is this situation just focuses on spreading Good energy, as we already have to much bad shit in this world. Rest in Peace Mac miller
i don't know whether you already did or not, but please check out his mixtapes and not just his studio albums. they go hard. the man also has a huge catalogue of leaked/unreleased/rare songs, so while it sucks that we'll never hear mac again you can atleast enjoy the fact that there's a LOT of great music that the man's left us
Don't care what people say, Mac is one of the GOATS and went down a legend. Mac is so slept on its fucking ridiculous, dude was a genuine artist who had such passion for music, I've never seen an artist switch up their style as much as Mac did. RIP to a great.
Every time I see Macs face pop up in my feed my heart churns a little. I am a day 1 and man this shii was like it happened yesterday . Screw all the noise just wanted to say one love to yall and the most dope family. That's forever !!
After that letter I started disliking Goldlink, removed most of his music from my library cause it didn’t feel right listening to him. Now I also don’t think this is what ultimately did him in but it prob contributed to it, I think people are overestimating his popularity at the time. He wasn’t even THAT big to begin with. He still a bum for that post tho so whatever slander he getting he deserves it
he had a lot of good music im ngl i loved all his work. but this along with him stealing another girls entire album idea down to the cover art is what brought him down. he lowkey dissed mac and ended up doing the same thing he accused mac of to a girl who was a back up singer for him iirc. goldlink was def popping for awhile but those 2 things really killed it for a lot of his fans, myself included
I still bump his music cause I'm not about cancel culture if the artist is good for the most part but what he did was dumb. Talented artist but it was sour even if if was honest.
@@uzumakisunshine1303 i remembered wrong he only took the ep name from her but her name is Joy Postell. He was caught stealing bars from a snippet smino posted a long time ago though as well
@@bigh3896 it does in 2021, its engagement and shows how active your fanbase is, its where an artist can directly communicate to their fans. if goldlink announces an album on twitter and it only gets 30 likes would u say that has nothing to do with how successful his music career is?
I can’t find myself to listen to Goldlink anymore knowing he’s a narcissistic, egotistical, attention seeking, spineless coward that would attack the legacy of Mac. It’s not about our love for Mac, it’s the principle of respect.
I was thinking of it in another way, its like giving an eulogy at a friend's funeral but then also bringing up how he still owed you money and never paid you back like huh
"When Nancy diiiiiiied......she still owed me 50 dollars. How's that work? Kevin, does that transfer to you? We'll figure it out. Anyway I'd just like to say that God is good all the time." Kevin Hart, Laugh at my Pain
goldlink was very grimey for that. you had all this time when mac was alive to speak up about your concerns, but decided to speak about it after he passed? and spoke on mac when he can’t even defend himself?
Such a weird letter too. Bros like "You stole my shit" and then "I love you and I'm proud of you" like what? The whole thing was a backhanded complement... to a dead dude. Weird and narcissistic as hell.
Dwelling on the past and posting online versus settling things privately is always bad. Choosing to battle a dead man (just like everyone did with Jah when he passed)is always cowardly. Don't post your thoughts online or say them at all for 2 reason.(1.) People never get where you're TRULY coming from(2.) Your words can always be used against you, even if what you said is true, He's dead, WTF does it matter now. Much love Blacky, love the vids.
@@elijahgavin6706 penalty or not, he's dead so they should've beat his ass when he was here if they truly felt like it was a problem. Beef gets more clout arguably anyway.
I’ve been a big fan of both for a few years now and yet I somehow missed this. I agree that it was unnecessary and and immature to put out after his death. I still like his music though and I’ll still listen to whatever Goldlink puts out but this does change my perception of him. I like Mac more and he did not deserve this letter thrown at him but but I also think canceling Goldlink entirely over this is a little too far, I think he just needs to be more understanding and some humility
I was too, but after this it just felt weird because goldlink was just wrong for this man. I hated it even more cause I wanted goldlink to be bigger because he genuinely has good music imo. But after this I don’t really care what goldlink does anymore. Haven’t caught up with his new shit and well he just did it to himself.
I’m a huge Mac fan and went to check out gold links album he said was copied and it is very similar. I think the post was supposed to be about how he was mad and grew to appreciate what mac had done in his eyes with inspiration from him.
Family always told me when I was young “think before you speak.” This dude probably went into his notes, did all this to copy, paste, and post. Grown men should think before they Tweet, but the damage is irreversible 🤷♂️
Yawl heard Gucci's letter to Dolph ? RIP man to everyone we lost this year we as a culture took a lotta L's this year I'm praying and speaking a better one into existence for next year....
Still crazy that Mac died the same day Spider-Man ps4 released it was just a mix emotion 4 me man & I still can’t believe he pass really missed easy Mac with cheesy raps 🥲🙏🏽
@@Chuckfinlee432 bro no lie it was just a mixed feeling of emotions 4 me Mac’s death came out of nowhere right when I bought Spider-Man after I came home from school 😂
I was just listening to TABOO yesterday and when Gold links verse came on I started thinking about what he said and why he said it. In black balloon he allegedly doesn't care if people hate him. So that's all G. I guess we'll forever be confused as to why he said ot
it annoys me so much that nobody ever read the last paragraph to link's letter. adds such a heartwarming side to it that nobody can appreciate because he talks about a fight they had once, the story was intended to talk about their reunion and friendship despite the little miscommunication they stumbled on
I never want to be around a “friend” who doesn’t see it at as a surprise for me to pass away. That shit is disgustingly sociopathic. It’s so embarrassing for Mac to have given him opportunities and then even celebrated him.
Never heard of that song I only know him making the song "Fall In Love" and being featured in another song called "Lost In Paris" I really like them both.
Being honest, GoldLink WAS one of my favorite rappers since I heard The God Complex. I was actively checking out for new music because I do think he has a really good flow and voice. I hate his fucking guts tho. He's seemingly narcissitic, egotistic and an asshole, but I was checking out for his music, even listened to his last album and had a couple of songs on repeat, with that said... Ever since that letter, and Malcom being one of my favorite artists of all time, I couldn't listen to him in the same way.
It’s crazy because GL stole the “Diaspora” album idea from collaborator Joy Postell. They collaborated months before he announced the name of his album. She had been had that name of her album. It’s crazy how things come full circle.
I knew Goldlink was a clown when I saw him open for Tyler in Miami 2019, he was putting the crowd down for not knowing his music and not being that excited for his set, especially after the shit he said about Mac, and to top it off, got the crowd hyped about the drop for MAAD City and then said nah who the fuck is that. Like bruh, show some respect! Ego is inflated like crazy and his clear lack of self awareness reflects through his work and character in general.
I mean it’s an open letter like you said and yeah it’s very possible Mac Miller got inspiration from Goldlink project but honestly that’s not a bad thing. “Music can influence the masses”
So to be honest, it definitely didn't ruin his career. He still has a career. It definitely hurt it though. I think he just hasnt made another crew and that hurt his career more than this did. In my personal opinion though, diaspora is a pretty good album, but his new one haram was pretty wack. A few songs were OK but definitely not what I wanted to hear. Hope he goes back to the kaytranada vibes coz meditation is such a dope song.

But if I ever wanted to meet an artist or famous person, Mac is definitely someone I wanted to meet. He seemed like a real genuine person who just happened to make art that everyone loved. Its sad cuz in his jadedness there’s no way he considered this would be his first impression to a large number people who would’ve potentially fw his music. As a huge fan of God Complex its a shame.
