I had a hankering for a little rocky tech so I headed north to Duluth Minnesota. With trails like BOB and DM it's easy to see why Piedmont is the gem of the Duluth trail system.

Love hearing you talk to yourself on the trail. I knew I wasn't the only one who did that. LOL. Looks like I might need to invest in a fully to properly ride everything in Duluth now. It's been awhile since I've been up there but look forward to getting there again. Thanks for the vid!

Piedmont is for real a gem. Sweet vid. Dr. Rockso may be my favorite trail in MN. Surprised you stopped before the blue connector finish into that drop and berm, love that run. Brilliant use of the timeline markers for each trail! I have yet to see many MTB channels do that, it's super nice to include.
@KrisYahner

Ha! Yeah I forgot about that drop and berm in the moment and had to stop to get my camera out of the tree. You're right though it is fun to put that all together. Gotta give credit to @BrianVaughn for the idea of using channel markers for the trails. He's the first one I saw doing that.

Hey man, I have a new amazing Duluth trail for you RU-vidrs to ride. It’s called Parts Vermilion. It’s a black/double black diamond! It’s in the area between Hartley and the western side of Morningside trail. The shortcut to get there would be to park on Vermilion road, take Downer trail to the intersection with Parts Vermilion and Downer. Ride the trail clockwise. It’s a loop that runs through beautiful a forest area can be ridden either way. It’s .6 miles around, but it seems like five miles! You can session it multiple times. You’ll probably have the trail to yourself. I rode Hawk Ridge, Morningside, Downer and Parts Vermilion and then back, but it was a ten mile, tough ride. I have never taken this trail before, but it’s worth the effort to get there. It’s a combination of some of the best features on DM, BOB, Stone Age, and Split Rock Wilds. There is a slightly elevated double black skinny through the ferns over a gully, a double black very steep, mossy, no run in rock roll down with a huck at the end that goes into a tight right hand berm, two double black ladder bridge gap jumps, and many numerous rocky technical climbs and descents scattered throughout. It’s one hell of a workout!! Trailforks doesn’t really do it justice, but it was a blast!

Yooo!!! Dude thank you for the support and kind words!!! Was not expecting that when I started watching haha. Awesome video as always man! I actually lost all the footage from that day because my external hard drive just took a crap, lesson learned to back up footage. It’s all good though, I need to go back up and ride all this and more again anyways. I’ve never even hit Red Dress or Dr. Rockso. Definitely gotta hit those up. You also failed to mention that you saved the day for me with the wrench haha. Awesome meeting you and thanks again buddy! Nice job sending it! 🤙🏻

It was funny looking at the footage after the fact. I was so focused talking to Tom and JJ at the top that I didn't even really register that you guys were up at the top with us. And then when you rolled up at the bottom I was thinking, "Hey that guy looks familar". Haha. Sorry to hear about the footage. But, yeah good excuse to ride up those trails again!

Kristofer Yahner Yeah I knew it was you up top and I was trying to find an opening to introduce myself but didn’t want to interrupt your guy’s conversation so was glad I got to meet you at the bottom even though the circumstances weren’t ideal. haha

I'm disappointed it's been over a month since I've been up there. I was hoping to get back up there after my trip but it didn't work out. Maybe the rain forecasted for next weekend will change. I want to get in a ride on Lester and Piedmont.
@KrisYahner
@KrisYahner 4 года назад
Yeah, this rain has made planning difficult. I haven’t had a chance to hit up Lester yet this year.

How much travel would you recommend on the blues and single blacks here? My 100 mm xc bike was pretty rough and kept bottoming out. It sure kept things interesting though!
@KrisYahner
@KrisYahner 3 года назад
That's a tough one to answer because it really comes down to personal preference, but I'd say if you're bottom out 100mm then maybe something in the 130-150mm will work better. Geometry is something to consider too. As the trail gets steeper and rougher you might find that something a little longer and slacker is more stable and faster.
@ElTerrible2011
@ElTerrible2011 4 года назад
Love Piedmont. Went up there earlier this year and made some progress hitting everything on Dr. Diablo, Red Dress and Medropolis. Didn’t hit that drop on Dr. Rockso though, that’s on my to do list. Still have yet to try BOB or DM. Is Kissing Booth part of Piedmont? If not it sure felt like it was as it had some rocky, technical descents.
@KrisYahner
@KrisYahner 4 года назад
Kissing booth is in that Piedmont/Brewer area. I think of them as part of the same system. Others might disagree.

@@KrisYahner Cool. Keep your eyes peeled for some more rocky, technical downhill coming to Duluth soon. Apparently some work is being done in an area called Ely’s Peak. Saw it on the COGGS FB page. Trails popping up everywhere man.
