This studio recording of 'A Little Silver Trumpet' (BBC, tx 19 November to 3 December 1980) was made on 7 August 1980. As with many productions, this was transferred over to a lo-band Shibaden video tape for review. This video is taken from the original Shibaden reel, purchased from eBay several years ago.

Wow amazing! Wish you could watch this series on here. I remember this series. I think there was a girl called Bess in it, who had a bit of a drunk dad if I remember right, but I haven't seen this since I was a kid.

I was in this too, I was one of the red headed Cleaver children. I was only 4, and thought it was all real. I loved Patsy Byrne, and Ron Pember, he was funny though I thought he was scary!

@@petescully3806 Amazing! I hope this brings back happy memories for you! Ron Pember did give off that vibe in the series but he was a lovely man. I wonder if any of the other cast have seen this RU-vid video?

@@NickD1972MusicMan That is amazing. Yes, these are some of my earliest memories, though it's fuzzy. I know my mum in England taped the series off the TV in the 1980s and probably still has it, if it hasn't totally disintegrated. If there's any way I can find that and digitize it I will. @@petescully3806 Haha. Yes. That's me holding you!!! I've got that photo too! I half remember my mum taking it, though my memories are sketchy too. We had the series taped as well, but back in those days, you accidentally recorded over the tape with something else. There are companies out there who can transfer VHS to DVD/MP4. I guess you're not living in England now? If your mum still has it, and manages to transfer it digitally, I'd love to get hold of a copy!

In the 1980s at TVC I was responsible for maintaining these machines for 6 months, I didn’t really know what I was doing. This playback you’re watching is misaligned and the heads are crossing tracks in the middle of the picture, sorry about that. Recordings were made in the SHIB SHED in VT area 2, the machines were controlled by a physical clamp holding down the red record button and the mains switch powered up every time the studio lights went red by means or a power tally relay. There was always 15 seconds of tape recording before studio action took place, this was because time-code needed to be recorded for that period on the 2” tapes so during editing the tape could back-up by 15 seconds. I escaped engineering and the BBC to become a freelance video editor, which was much more interesting and profitable.

Anyone know what the music is at 12:00 ? I never liked this series as a kid, but I used to love the theme tune and haven't found out what it's called in the intervening 41 years !
