One of the most underrated Metallica tracks

I love the Song!! That Song was my Anthem at a time in my Early 20's when I felt stuck and I needed a change in Scenery and in Life!!

I had a shitty time in high school, and the chorus line was the quote in my yearbook. Killer fucking song. So happy Metallica played it live in its entirety.

I've always loved this song. To me it's what really makes for such a solid album having that on the b-side on Ride the Lightning. I actually did not know they hated this song until recently, always wondered why they never played it live.

At 14 years oif age back in 1990, this song became the anthem I still hold true till today. It spoke volumes to me and carved who I am! I will and forever be on my own and will follow my own fucking path!

I was listening to ride the lightning on the way to school today, I’d never heard Escape before and thought it sounded super out of place. It was like they were trying to sound commercial but still had the heavy vocals and crunchy guitar.

i personally think escape is the best song on ride the lightning. i love the melody of the chorus.

This song is amazing to blast before starting a day in cold calling or while working out. Metal needs more songs like this man, maybe it would inspire more metal heads to be successful. Tbh

The song sounds like it would belong in "Load" more than in "Ride the Lightning".It has a more commercial sound to it.

That was the first Metallica tab I got in my hands in 1992 and since it was very difficult and expensive to get guitar magazines in Costa Rica back in the day, it was very special. I got the Ride the Lightning record way later and finally learned the riffs. I wonder if James hates it because it's in the key of A, which is not common for them.

I fucking live escape ride the lightening is such an incredible album

I like this song. It was the first song I could play right through. Been playing 32 years. I am not really a metal player or very good either, but can play a bit. Their music is so hard to play and get it right. This was a way in but tunes like Master, Battery, Damage Inc. I'm out. They are incredible musicians.

Always liked this song, its got some interesting timing, great slow heavy section and being short gives the album a nice dymamic. Whats the problem?

What can I say about this topic? Well, i could say that I am a person , that sometimes it's very difficult when a Song is bad, obviously it will not hook me immediatly when the Song from any Metal band is bad, but this classic Song from Metallica feom the masterpiece Ride the Lightning 1984, the Song Escape, for me and for many die-hards, this Song it's very amazing, good and excellent riffs and the harmonies, melodies and the solos Are impressing! The tempo's Lars' drums is module and Metallica have much many Song with show tempos and they Are greats but this Song is greatful, since first time that Song liked me and i love it as well... James and rest of the team they had to have Live something very bad and the Song Escape make them remember and for that they do not like to play it alive and less to talk a about the song, James hate it!!! IT's very funny know All of this about this classic Metal song Escape...

I suppose it was considered a "filler" track. If that was truly the case, Black Sabbath's Paranoid was a filler track. That, to the surprise of everyone, including the record producer, band management and the record label, became one of their most recognizable songs...and still is today. Sabbath embraced their accidental "hit!"

Well I was disappointed to know that James hated it cause I love this song. Why? For those reasons : It is showing a brighter side of metal music. In everyone's minds, metal has sad, violent, disgusting lyrics but sometimes it's the opposite, like in this track! The lyrics of this song makes you feel invincible, reinforced by the chorus that just sound epic, full of confidence and hope towards future. That's why maybe as a teenage girl, I relate so much to this song x) Wanting to live my life on my own, wanting to "escape" from everything that's holding me down. Also, often teenagers has a low self esteem and it's talking about inner-strenght. What really caught my attention was in fact the chorus, sounding so different cause it's in major. Everytime I hear major key in metal, it's catching my attention anyway. And the end of the song with the line "life's on my own to live my own way" with some effects just ends the song so well in my opinion. And for real, the song in its entirety just sounds fucking amazing. Yeah, maybe it was meant to be more radio friendly so it sounds not as heavy than the rest of the album or just in thrash metal in general but I don't care. It's a really good song, I truly feel great while listening to this! So yeah, this was my small analysis of (in my opinion) this really underrated song... ^^'

I do kind of like Escape, but its definitly the worst of Ride, and the song doesnt fit with the rest of the setlist. I like the song though.

Escape is really good. Maybe it's too short to play live. The song runs till 3 and a half minutes until the big fade out happens in the album.
