1:00:05 Do you think you bring over Dol Amroth to lamedon here? maybe leaving one behind in case of corsairs? then aragorn could retreat after first round against mouth and counter attack into pelargir again
Just want to say that I love your videos. Thank you for uploading war of the ring games. I can only play around once every two months, so it keeps me entertrained.
21:56 I probably would've kept the red tile over ringwraiths and maybe king is revealed over hill trolls for a possible pivot into Gondor/Rohan but that was a tough choice
Great video, Ira, and well played by both players. Overall I wonder if the Challenge of the King play was worth it? If you don't draw the red eye then every eye drawn is shrinking the pool making it more likely you DO draw the red eye later. If Strider didn't play COTK and just drew those top 2 tiles by moving (E, 0r) he would've won on 11 corruption. But maybe this is just outcome bias as obviously if Strider HAD drawn the red eye with COTC then he significantly improves his chance of winning. Would be interested to know the odds of whether COTC a help or a hindrance in that situation. Maybe better to just play the blue tile and move twice?
Good thoughts! One question is if he thinks the eyes are currently deadly. At 7 corruption with 4 eyes in the hunt box, if Shadow has any corruption card, any of the eye tiles would lose the game. As it turns out, I didn't have that in hand, but it's definitely a real risk I built a tool to help analyze situations like this: irafay.com/wotr_challenge.php You can set the pool to match the current pool, and set the current step to 4, eye damage to 4.5 (since it would be 4 on the first move and 5 on the 2nd move), and use Gollum ability. And you'll see that with Challenge checked, the expected corruption is 3.3 and expected character dice needed is 3 (move, hide, move). With Challenge unchecked, expected corruption goes up to 4.1 and you need 3.1 expected character dice to destroy the ring. So... the question is if the extra 0.8 corruption is worth risking the possibility of running out of movement. It's probably close, but overall, I think Strider656 made the right choice here by going to Challenge, because the chances of me having a corruption card like Lure or Morgul Wound are probably higher than the chances of drawing the red eye after Challenge (which is what I needed to stop him).
Hey, I'm still having questions about why at 52:27, FP got 5 corruption and got revealed, if Golum is not letting the Fellowship reveal with the default tiles...
9:00 I probably would have played Athelas there in a competitive game, but more and more lately I look for chances to crown Aragorn, and given a delayed Saruman and Fellowship health, I'd have crowned him because games are more fun that way.
I would not have moved the Fellowship that third time with Worn With Sorrow and Toil on the board. Next turn's first move could be without a reveal, and plop them in Lorien to remove Worn. I hate that card so much when I play Free.
