I'm right behind you. I currently own a Sony Trinitron 960, DVDO iScan Duo, Etc.. Now All I need is a Hi-Vision Pioneer LD Player and my dreams of conquering the world will finally be realized!!!!!!!!!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joshua Helmeke just find a Pioneer Elite CRT 64 inch widescreen rear projection tv at a thrift store . I paid 10 bucks for it and it’s like brand new. Not an iota of calibration needed. Then you can play your hd LDs on that! Ld looks better on crts and the analog filter in this would really make muse discs pop. This is my theory at least. I want a muse player big time too .

Just go straight in with composite . The S video and HDMI will degrade the image . LD is analog , stick with it .

So... this is like, the best LD player type ever? The ones that.. kinda makes just a better type of SD quality than other players? A player that would go perfectly with HDTVs?

+Davion Blackwing There are a couple of other models considered better. Most of this stuff goes by personal taste too. This player would have the same problems as any other player when used on a modern HDTV. Eventhough the player produces a sharp image, it wouldn't help if the TV processes it wrong. I recently aquired a Crystalio II video processor, which is concidered best with SD sources. The difference in picture quality was really noticeable. Laserdisc will never become blu-ray in picture quality, remember that. You can still make it look very good, but it does have a hefty price tag... Wouldn't recommend going this route unless you really like tinkering with old technology.

I don't expect a Laserdisc to have Blu-ray disc, but I'd like to have the better picture a Laserdisc can give. A good 480p or 576i with good definition. More or less, like a DVD but analog.

If I was gonna get a Laserdisc right now (which won't be) what would you recommend me, and which steps should I follow in order to get the best quality?

+Davion Blackwing Not sure. A lot of people are fond of the late Elite players released in the US. High-end players do cost a bit, but not as much as these japanese players do. With regards to picture quality, a good TV get you a long way. Remember to calibrate it and disable any enhancements too. Most TVs do have a good comb filter (to clean up the analog video), but it isn't a priority anymore to implement. A lot of people have had good success using late Panasonic DVD recorders, which have good filters. For pure video processors, the Crystalio II is the best choice, but it is really rare and really expensive. Other cheaper options, like the DVDO Edge, doesn't have a good filter. The benefit with a video processor is that they have a lot of features to adjust the image, and different quick selections for aspect ratios.

Actually laserdisc can do 1030i HD analog video but only with a player bearing MUSE Hi-Vision name a decoder and a MUSE LD movie back in early 90s you also need a Hi-Vision TV set too but any HDTV today will do just fine but the player and MUSE LD are still very expensive to buy and import.

great video. Thanks

Jose Martinez Thank you! Thought I'd give a shot at a more detailed video, since the few videos on youtube don't show too much about this player. Although, it isn't that much to talk about as it functions more or less the same as any other laserdisc player.

Can you show the back to see the HD OUTPUT?
@togst
@togst 9 лет назад
It isn't that much to show. If you do a quick image search on google you will find a picture of the back. It is just two outputs from RCA jacks that are titled "MUSE". You will need a seperate decoder that takes in that signal and processes it. That decoder outputs RGB or component.

Way too much content available on laserdisc that hasnt been released on more modern formats. These high end players make the content look as good as possible on modern displays.

Not just on modern displays. These players did the best job at picture quality period. So if you wanted to capture something off a laserdisc for archival purposes, the best quality would be achieved from the best player, the HLD- X0. (the X9 is supposed to be almost as good but seems to be more common than the X0)

X0 were like a hand built player that looked sinistrally awesome and weighs 80 pounds no wonder it barely show up they still going for thousands for one of them.
