I really wish Bremen Avenue Experience was a full series. I love the artstyle and the concept gives me Night in the Woods but for children vibes. I always caught these on Boomerang (except for The Bremen Avenue Experience, they never aired that one) alongside stuff like Merrie Melodies or Roadrunner segments from The Looney Tunes Show and Mixels shorts and it made me wonder why the Wedgies shorts never got fully fledged series. With the exception of Big Baby and *maybe* Calling Cat 22, they have premises that would suit themselves amazingly as full shows. They’re a lot like Dan Vs, in a way. They’ve got simple premises that can be taken to absolutely insane degrees thanks in part to their charming lead characters.

I barely remember seeing them as a kid, but after re-watching them while editing this video, I gotta say my favorite is the Bremen Avenue Experience. It has a fun and quirky fast-paced style that is accentuated by its art-style. Does it have weak moments? Absolutely, especially in the episode where Tanner is shocked that Jessica is a girl. But the thing I most like about is its music. The fast cutting and chaos reminds me of WarioWare and Rhythm Heaven as well as the Mystery Skulls animated videos. Plus, the anthropomorphic animals and its character-focused nature makes this show look like an optimistic version of Bojack Horseman. This short has POTENTIAL to be a great full fledged series, especially if it has the elements mentioned by Trevor.

I had honestly completely forgotten about these shorts but then I saw the Wedgies intro and started vaguely remembering specific episodes of some of them What I’d like to see you cover is Cartoon Cartoons. They had apparently first been introduced in the 90s and we’re brought back in 2000s. They were actually the starting point for shows like Dexter’s Lab, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, etc. However, I specifically remember them because of one that got introduced as a pilot but never took off called Kenny and Chimpy

I actually remember CN Wedgies, Not because of shorts, it's because of the intro and outro of the segments. Whenever it aired on Boomerang, I either hide in the closet or into my room. And I never really saw the beauty of these shorts because of my fear of it. And Looking back on these shorts were really unique and fun. It's just that The Intro and Outro gave me absolute nightmares growing up... and it still does. (Mainly because of the talking hammer) I can't go on for about a year without it showing up in my dreams. And sadly, I never got to enjoy them because of that.

In order from my favorite to least favorite and why. Note I'm going to repeat some things he said in the video. The Bremen Avenue Experience: I really like the design and the fact that you are able to get an understanding of what each character's personality is in a short amount of time is great The Talented Mr.Bixby: The main character is reckless but charming. And I can't explain it but. these shorts felt mature. I don't know why it just felt like it was something that an older audience would enjoy more. Nacho Bear: It felt like a tribute of classic cartoons like The Coyote and Roadrunner and Sylvester and Tweety and Tom and Jerry to me. So close on getting their prize but getting it screwed over at the end. Calling Cat 22: I like the theme song but I feel the jokes are played out. Big Baby: Again a situation where the jokes are played out and honestly the designs kind of freak me out.

I remember seeing some of these on TV, specifically Cat 22. The rest of the "Wedgies" I've mostly seen through RU-vid. On a similar topic regarding Cartoon Network (possibly a "Lost Media" topic), I vividly remember seeing something particular in-between commercial breaks (more than once actually). I have not been able to find any videos or any discussion of it on the internet, or even footage of it that could easily be spotted on existing Cartoon Network commercial breaks uploaded to RU-vid, and I'm very certain that it was real. Here's a description of what I'm talking about: It starts off with what appears to be a photo of those SMPTE color bars made of paper (audio of someone imitating the Color bar noise plays at the same time), a Title card appears (I don't remember what the title was sadly, but a cartoon boy and dog do appear in the title card), next I see the boy holding a jar of Peanut Butter. He puts his finger in the Peanut Butter and then sticks a glob of it on the dog's nose. The dog unsuccessfully tries to lick it off with his tongue a few times before smash-cutting to fake TV statics clearly made of paper. A commercial break would begin shortly afterwards. (Hopefully I'm not the only one who remembers seeing this on Cartoon Network between 2008 and 2009)

@yoshisreal
@yoshisreal 11 месяцев назад
My thoughts on every Wedgies segment: Nacho Bear is pretty good, but I also think it wouldn’t do so well beyond 5 minute episodes… as well as the fact that the chase formula becoming infamously stale since why make one if it’s similar to like shows like Tom & Jerry or the Roadrunner Shorts Cat 22 is kinda missed potential. I wished Cat 22 would’ve been more polished writing-wise and had more clever jokes, but I also think it would’ve done better as 5 minute shorts rather than a full show. I’m still conflicted on Cat 22. Bixby is pretty good, but I don’t think kids would care about an old guy doing adult things unless it’s raunchy or violent. Bixby would be pretty cool as an adult-oriented series that barely has any adult-suitable content and is instead a bit whimsical, something like Mr. Bean. Bremen Avenue is also pretty good, but I still need to rewatch it since it’s been a while since I’ve watched it. The only one bad one is Big Baby, but that one is just inoffensive and generic as best and mediocre at worst.

I probably was the odd one, but I think why Big Baby may or may not have worked was because it tries to basically be a spoof that despite having a big baby, the world still took the situation seriously. Criminals robbing a bank? Baby thwarts crime by pure coincidence, the world is at peace. So it's pretty hit or miss; I mostly thought it was in offensive, and just taking the concept of "Baby's Day Out" to a different level. However, yeah, the other shows were honestly better...especially Bixby.
