Here's my writing vlog for the last week of Camp NaNoWriMo! I had to get 20,000 in 7 days (& then 10K in the final 2 days bahaha). Story struggles, panel discussions, and cappuccinos galore. :)
☟↓ QUESTIONS FOR YOU BELOOOOOW! ↓☟
D I S C U S S I O N Q U E S T I O N S :
How did April's Camp NaNoWriMo go for you? Did you finish your story or will you be continuing to work on it in May?
Did you learn anything from this Camp that you'll take over or change for July's Camp and the big NaNoWriMo in November?

It's nice to see so many people still doing what they love. Since this quarantine and virus crap happened I've lost all desire and motivation to write. Maybe I'm becoming depressed from watching too much news, I don't know. I feel like I should write but when I start I feel like it's pointless and doubts come flooding in and I stop after one sentence.
@bodine219
@bodine219 4 года назад
That's super relatable. I've been writing more than I ever have, but mostly because it pauses my anxiety. Writing is a focused task that squeezes out other thoughts. Give yourself some grace; both responses to the quarantine stress are perfectly valid and neither is better than the other. Maybe just enjoy some reading or a nice Netflix binge? Or if you still want to write try something self indulgent that you never plan to publish? Low pressure.

I completed my word goal (Which wasn't very high) a few days ago, but I haven't looked at my story since. Mostly because I realized I was writing just to write. In the beginning, I wanted to tell the story I had, but now, I don't really see a point in finishing it. I've decided to leave it for now and work on other things, which wasn't an easy decision to make. However, I am happy I was able to write so many words. I'm definitely closer to figuring out my process, and there were some days I wrote more at once than I ever thought I could. Overall, I learned more about my process, and I've also learned how to tell when my passion for a story has died. The second is a lesson I wish I hadn't had to learn, but it is useful nonetheless.

I only set my word count for 30,000 words because I knew it would push me to make a habit of writing again and some progress was better than nothing. In total, I drafted half of my project, which I'm pretty happy with. I set my goals like this knowing I also had school to worry about, and I think that compares pretty well to all of the stuff you continue to juggle as you do nano.

This was really intresteing! I didn’t participate in camp because I still work 6 days a week since I’m on deployment, but I did compete in two of the regular nanowrimo events a few years back. The best I ever did I think was 13,000 words and I tend to be more of a short story writer which really fights against me when I try to write a novel. I can usually complete the story itself, it just doesn’t have that word count lmao.

I've been editing for Camp, and at first I had set the goal at 90k-- the whole thing. A week later, I realized that was daft at the best of times, but now with the pandemic stress and so much unsure in the future, I needed to be much kinder to myself. So I lowered it to 20k. I hit 22k by the end of camp and I'm fine with that. I think this months data is spoiled from the extraneous conditions for you. You did great pushing to hit your count! I think in July I'll still be monkeying with this book. Also, I am totally with you on the new site and change in camp cabins. I'm not liking the new site but I'm grateful Nanowrimo is still around so I'll take what they're giving.

My goal at first was 15,000 words, but then I raised it up to 30,000 and I made it! A really nice feeling, I really love Camp. I made a new project for May, another 15,000 words (same story, which is about 150K long at the moment). It's just under 500 words of writing per day, so it should be doable even if I miss a day or due because of uni work.

I finished the first draft of the novel I started last November (my fist NaNo). There wasn't that much left to write, but I struggled to get it done ever since then. So setting this as my Camp NaNo goal was really helpful! So glad I did it, even if it was 'only' 10k. :)

I managed to win camp NANO, but I am a lot like you and prefer to work on different projects and not just one. My goal was originally set for 10,000 words then I changed it to 15,000 words and then when I saw I could do more I tried to change my goal again, but it wouldn't let me. I ended just over 20,000 words and that included editing time because I couldn't think of anything more to add to it. I get bored fast. I don't know what I will do for November's NANOWRIMO yet, but for the July camp I have another idea. I have been writing some memoirs although there is some difference of opinion in the different books I read on writing one. So maybe time for more reading and see what someone else says. Good job! April Camp NaNoWriMo went well. I hit my word count and went beyond it. I am not continuing it, because it was only Camp NaNoWriMo project. I went back to writing my Horror Dark Fantasy novel. I learn that even thought I had 10K writing goal things could change in a month, plus I would need to make some changes before continuing on the next Camp NaNoWrIMo. I will not be working on it during NaNoWriMo, because it's not a 50K writing project. I understand your struggle on writing a lot of words in a short amount of time.

For Camp I chose to work on the same novel I did last NaNo and set an easy goal of adding 20,000 words to it. I got nearly 30,000 words done this month, which I was super happy with because I spent a lot of the month really unmotivated to work due to stress and having to juggle getting my financial aid in order for school. By my estimate I have 30% left of the book to do and I just want it done so badly lol. I haven't finished a novel in like ten years, I'm very eager to do it again after so long.

We have had a wet April this year so it's been thick... I have not been outside but the pollen apparently is BAD here. Camp nano was interesting this year, I dropped my camp nano project 1000 words in and then sort of unintentionally started a new one that I didn't document. I also miss the camp nano site😢. In this brand-new story I went in with no outline (I've always been an outliner) and allowed myself to edit as I go. It was insane! I started halfway into the month and got 10,000 words in a week! And by the end of the month I'm at 13,000 because I hit a wall. But still that's the most I've ever written in a project!

I didn't "win" because I overestimated the number of words I'd be rewriting chapters 11-20 in my first novel. I cut an entire chapter and probably cut another 1/2 chapter with how much I changed. I only needed about 17k and I estimated 25K. However, I am proud of myself because the main goal was to edit chapters 11-20 which are now 11-19 and that did get done, and I cut a lot of words from my 1st draft. I have to take a little bit of a break from it because I can't get the next 10 chapters from my CP until probably the May 15 or beyond. I started a short story that I want to be able to submit to a mag I saw calling for entries and the deadline is May 30th. I've got a good start on the rough draft in the last few days. I'm hoping to get some words tonight, but I might need to do more housework. One of my sons is terrified of the vacuum cleaner and freaks out the moment I turn it on (It's okay to laugh I find it very funny) but we don't want to torture him so we're going up to my parents tomorrow so my husband can vacuum, steam, and bleach the entire apartment, and I'm cleaning so he can do that without having to clean too.

Okay, this has nothing to do with the video, but I just realized your P.O. Box is in Boerne and I know where that is! My family used to live in Helotes and went to church in Boerne. We would have brunch at some fancy hotel there every Sunday (the rich grandparents always paid), and I've dreamed about it for years.

I was going to do Camp Nano this month, then I realized that I had procrastinated all my homework that was due in April... so I did that instead. Hopefully I do better with my time so that in July I can participate.

Camp NaNoWriMo ended for me when I wasn’t allowed to leave my house except for work 😬😬 so like, the 3rd. I’m not able to work well at my house right now so everything just ceased. I’m hoping by Camp 2 and November I’ll be able to go to the library or Starbucks to get my work done. I’m so proud of everyone that did succeed despite the world trying to kill us all!!!!

This was my first nano event. My goal was 30k words across multiple projects and I reached it a couple days early. (I also finished my first book!!) There were a few days I didn't write at all, but I was pretty happy with myself. So, I plan to do 50k in July, still across multiple projects. I'm working my way up to attempt a non-rebellious November. 😁

Honestly, I crushed Camp NaNoWriMo this time... Lesson learned: as long as a pandemic cancels my vacation, I can properly outline, and if I can properly outline, I can breeze through the majority of the first draft while self isolating for three weeks. Hopefully this won't happen again, but at least I'll be prepared for it.

I finished 45,000 words for Camp, and finished the first draft. I have so much editing to do XD. I haven't even looked at it and I just know.

I didn't meet my camp goal but I did add an additional 17,350 words this month and my goal was 30,000. I didn't start a brand new story, and Ive realized I need to have some kind of outline even if its just a page of notes to help the story along. I wasted a lot of time staring and thinking okay whats next.

I have learned that I can developmental edit like an absolute FIEND when I'm on deadline. (But only short deadlines like a week.)

I felt really angry with myself, I managed to write over 8000 words on the last day, but I was still 1000 words away from the 50k goal... I was really peeved because that was the best I'd ever done w/ word counts. I got just over 48k words in the end :(

I did hours (and counted them as words in the website). My goal was to have 15 hours of writing (which broke down to 30 minutes a day). I liked this bc it meant that even if words were low and I spent time brainstorming, I got credit. This might work well for you, because you could track the amount of time spent in one particular story rather than word progress. That way, you could dedicate one hour a day to working on a particular story and that leaves you free to work on whatever you want the rest of the time. Just an idea!

Haha I had to write 20,000 words this week and then I had to write over 11,000 words on the last day. I did not make it....and I kind of cheated by starting early because I didn't know about the camps until now. But, I made it to 40,016 words! First draft is done for now. :D

It was my first time doing the challenge. My initial goal was to draft a certain story. It was half finished. By 20k I was done finishing the draft. But I couldn't make it to 50k 😅. Only up to 30k. Next time maybe ;-; Congratulations🎉🎊 to the winners btw ^^

How do writers write so much in such a short period of time!! 6,000 words in a day for 2 days. I can’t write in bulk like this

I’ve been following you for a while now and there was something about you that I couldn’t put my finger on. It really bothered me that I couldn’t figure it out. Sitting next to my sister and she’s like “she looks and sounds like cousin Kathy” I’m losing my mind.

Hi Kate, I wanted to do camp this year but April came and went so fast. I follow your youtube channel...listening to you talk about writing keeps me focused on my own dream of becoming a professional writer. I have been considering starting my own authortube channel but I am a muslim and I cover my face with a veil, so I don't know, it sort of bothers me whether that will work.

So I was writing a family history for Camp Nano and I way overestimated how many words I would need. I think my final product will be half of what I estimated and I think that is with an extra 3 thousand words of research I need to add. So in the middle of the month I had finished my rough (very rough) draft and then I am like I still need another 13000 words (my goal being 20000). Now that it has been a few weeks I am planning on doing my first run through of the story to see what I need to edit, add and research. But I was too close to it during Nano to pick it up. (Though I did know some things I needed to research and started sending out emails about that for info).

Did you DNF Pirate Hunters? I had planned on participating in Camp to write my MG thriller, but the website was so different and the cabins GONE, I just never dove in.
