Many years ago in the basement through the door to his left at the end, they had cock (chicks) fighting. It was the duty of the guard to keep his eye on procedures. Hence the name Chicksguard. Sorry for a short version but having trouble with my mobile.

The story of the trumpeter using a grey horse goes back to when they took the horses into battle. The cavalry needed to identify their trumpeter as he was sounding the advance or withdrawal.

Surely do they not have to be licensed? John are you ever tempted to tell them they are talking rubbish. Some horses just see any stationary human as a convenient scratching post. I knew one who used to sneak up behind people who were oblivious, and suddenly they’d be propelled forwards by having a horses head shoved into their back….I swear he laughed. Some also think that humans are there to lean on….my niece had one such sook, who would practically go to sleep on your shoulder…..and lemme tell you, a horses head is HEAVY

They certainly do know how to pick the most stunning horses - the cavalry blacks, the Windsor greys and the trumpeter’s white horses. The trumpeter did a good job with his valveless trumpet seeing as how brass instruments tend to play flat in cold weather. I noticed an absolutely gorgeous bay police horse in one of yesterday’s videos with “matching accessories” of mane & tail in a lighter shade. I think they’re all gorgeous but every now and again one does stand out. I wouldn’t swear to it but I think I once read the colour of the Life Guard’s officer’s cloak referred to as Mulberry.

I watched a video on the Royal Family Channel of the procession yesterday and that one showed a riderless horse that had been caught by one of the guardsmen lining up across the parade ground. It was drone footage from high up so I couldnt see clearly but I think the poor rider came off near the memorial. That may have been when the other horse that trotted riderless past John played up and dumped his rider as well. Maybe the troopers who lost their helments did so when their horses kicked off so in that case they did well to stay on and I hope they didnt get into trouble. I do hope all are OK
