Was that the problem ? The nail ?

Yes, they said they ripped the T & G boards up one at a time, and found a nail between the boards Nr to the drummers feet, and the movement was making a feed back noise on there systems. When you used to put the boards down, you put 5 lenghs of boards on top of the joists, then you use joist clamps and push all 5 bards up and nail them up. nails can get dropped, but also when they have been down for a bit of time they dry out and you get gaps in the t & g, and as the floors are first to be done, you could be working on the walls or ceiling and just drop nails, if it just found a gap it would just get mist when brushing up each night. Those two guys were from Hazel Grove and they used to tell everybody about the time they worked on the studio, they were really proud of it

I don't know for sure, I had a look on line today and it said they moved from a smaller builing in town (Stockport !) a very small studio above a record shop in 1968, so I guess it was then, but it did also say that it was a very small operation at first, and really only for laying down there own tracks, there was only 2 of them at that stage, but after a very short time the other 2 had come in as investors and that was the start of 10cc. The studio took off fast with lots of bands and artists booking the studio on a day to day fee, and it was being used 24 hours a day, and it was starting to get hard for them to get any time in the studio for there own work, but the gear was old and I think only 2 track, then they got a solid block booking from a record company in the US for 3 months use of the studio, this gave them the cash to re furb the building and studio and go 4 track, so it may of been at that stage 69-70, all I know is that after they opened they found that they had the problem, and they had to go back in and find what it was and sort it. Dave Leigh was the younger of the two brothers but it was his company, and he had about 25 to 30 joiners on sits of new houses in Cheshire, then in about 74 this house building company in Alderley Edge pulled the plug over night and that was it, he went bust, when I started work in75 he was working there as a suby joiner with his brother, he was just finding his feet again, but was never going to be down for long, and I could fill a book with some of the tails he told me. I worked with him and other guys on Toms Chop House on Cross St Manchester, and we used to park on the inside of Central station before G-Mex was built.
