Nice to meet you two in the flesh...so to speak. Another great video. Sorry to hear your great day was spoiled by your break down at the end. All the best getting the van back on the road.
Lucky you had it so close, when I went the whole pochard flock went from quite far out to further out... however did manage to see it for quite a bit and got the worse but still identifiable digiscoped pics ever taken. Slightly skeptical on the the bird, just the fact that somehow two have ended up at Abberton doesn't pump me up with enthusiasm, and the news thats starting to pop up about the illegal dumping of various waterfowl SP's in the surrounding counties. Though the velvet scoters were worth going for alone, showed fantastically from the viewpoint.
Congrats on the Canvasback. Ten-a-penny here, but on the other hand, I ain't seen a Pochard 😂 Well done to Shaun for spotting it. Think he subscribes to me, too. Nice footage of the Snow Bunting 👍 and congrats to Kayleigh with the Bewick's Swan, nice looking bird, that. The breakdown absolutely sucks, I feel your pain. But I was glad to hear you sounding defiant against the crap luck. Keep going ☺
I wasn't subscribed but I am now! :-) Your videos kept popping up in my feed regardless (probably via RU-vid algorithms) so have been watching right from the start of your 250 challenge. 👍
Oh no, not the van! Your car only broke down a while ago. I hope you are back on the road soon and that it isn't too costly. You certainly put the miles in on your birding quests, and it is great that you share them with us. I only live 25 miles from Abberton and was thinking of looking for the canvasback, but when I heard it could be of dubious origin decided not to go. Especially as being a gardener, I have to work when the weather is more forgiving at the moment. Now I'm regretting not going as Velvet Scoter would have been an addition to my Abberton list, and would have possibly got to say Hi to you both. I was at Minsmere a couple of weeks ago where the best I could do was Peregrine. Your Snow Bunting footage is stunning!
Abberton is my local go-to for those crisp winter mornings (10 minutes drive rather than 5 hours). I was also lucky to see the Canvasback on 26th Nov amongst all of those Pochards. Seems like he's hanging around for a while. What camera and lens combination are you using to get your shots (apologies if this has been asked before) ?
