Like the new opening title sequence i don't have any consoles newer than Original XBOX/PS2 at the moment, but was looking at as PS3..... lol, but I'm sure you have pitched it correctly John..... well done !

Unfortunately, I just lost all my hopes on these 3 companies you mentioned. I still have a little, tiny spark of hope on Nintendo, but deep down inside, I know I'm just fooling myself into believing it. I think I'm just too old to enjoy modern consoles and games and, honestly, I'm quite happy with all I have (just a Nes, Snes, N64 and a bunch of games and everdrives), and I don't think I need a new game console, since I'm not a collector. I'll keep an eye on Nintendo Switch, but I really doubt I'm gonna buy one someday. Anyway, for me it's kinda a good thing I lost my interest on modern consoles, cause I don't have much time and money to invest on it, and there's still so many old games I wanna play, that would be impossible to me to focus on old and new consoles at the same time. Also, the games of the current generation are too damn big, and I just don't have 50, 60 hours to spend on a single game, unfortunately...

Great video man, love your channel. I think Nintendo needs to make they're game library eShopwise like all the older titles, they need to make it so they carry over on people's accounts. Like from the Wii to the Wii U and having to buy the same games over and over. They need to be like Sony and Microsoft where your old games port over if they can be played on the newer hardware, I think that would be huge! Once again love your channel, your collection is amongst the greatest I've ever seen.

Hey John, congratiulations to the 150th video. Good job so far - We all enjoy it. I think the majority of people will agree to what you say about Nintendo and there situation. Strange decissions they make currently. But we should see it that way, IF Nintendo focuses now entirely on the Switch and might come up with amazing lunch titles - it might be worth it. Still very risky, sure thing, but hey who knows. I really hope they can come up with some good stuff.. Anyway, enjoy your holiday with your family. :)

I agree with most of what you said, and its always nice to hear other peoples perspectives on how they think the video game companies are doing. Oh, and having just picked up an XBox One, I completely agree with you on the interface versus PS4, its not intuitive at all!

I really appreciate fellow parents, like myself. The reason why you are not a fan of m rated games, is because you want your children to maintain their innocence. A child only has a few years to enjoy their childhood. They don’t need to expose their eyes to garbage. Thank you for choosing to be responsible; even if others do not agree 👏

I think it boils down to who you are and what kind of games you like to play. We all would like one console to do everything. I think thats the biggest sell for most of these companies. If you like your childhood memories you go nintendo. Hanging with the bros, xbox and exclusives imo ps4. It all comes at a price just like anything else in life. Good to see people knowledgeable about the topic and creating buzz.

if the Switch fails, I will be super shocked if the investors don't threaten to dump the stock if don't either a) go 3rd party or b) make a more traditional console competitor that favors performance over some kind of gimmick. I think the gimmick for the switch is really neat, but it is still a gimmick.

I agree with pretty much everything you said John, especially about the lack of games for kids. Just recently I had a conversation with a colleague whose 10 year son wanted an XB1 or PS4 for Christmas. He asked me which one should he get and which bundle. We looked online and all we could find during Black Friday were Sports and Shooter bundles. Sony had Uncharted 4, CoD IW and NHL 17 bundles and Microsoft had FIFA 17, Battlefield 1, Gears 4, and Halo 5 bundles. Funnily enough, prior to the conversation with my colleague, I never realized how few exclusives cater to the younger demographic.

Hey John, what do you think about this? If Nintendo create a retro gaming division. Maybe have them strike a deal with ATARI ( or whomever owns that brand nowadays ) to port over games. Maybe Nintendo could create a console devoted to retro games of their own line and games ported over as well. I think it's worth discussing especially how much the NES classic attention has been received. They should make it a cartridge based console with HD capabilities. Or even if its a console that utilized a SD card reader. What's your thoughts?

Agree with a lot of what you say John. I really hope the switch is more about games than hardware. Wii U let me down a ton because of such a low amount of games. I like the system but I would of LOVED it with more games.

I myself am a fan of multiple consoles and or companies. So I am all over the map with my video game collecting and playing. I am not a completionist and only collect games I actually like and play. I have the Atari all the way up to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Also to note, I only buy and collect physical copies of games and do not do dlc. And I also have a huge handheld game collection as well. With that said, I still have my heart set on an original PS4. As the Pro has no use for me, being I do not have a 4k TV. My TV is going on 7 years old. lol And I like the way the original PS4 looks. There are some games that I want on that system. And probably more as the library grows. I am also mostly a single game player, and sometimes couch co-op. I do not play online whatsoever. Anyway good video and you made some good key points man. And I enjoy watching your videos and the content you talk about and share. Happy gaming!

John I like the report card on the big three. Would like to see you do it once every six months or year. Totally agree on the Wii U pricing! Nintendo should have cut the price to $150 during the holidays and I really think out would have helped get them out there.

Absolutely agree with the statement about the kids games. I am thankful that Nintendo exists, because if they didn't, how many games are kids able to play these days. What's a kids game for the Xbone or PS4? I can't think of many off hand. Having a Wii hooked up has been a great introduction of games to my young son. Without it, I have no clue what I'd show him. Also, as I get older, I find myself doing the same as John. I can go back to every Mario game and have a blast, or hit up some of my favorite shmups on the PC Engine and Genesis. But popping in the latest 'mature' game that takes 15 hours to find its groove? I just don't have time for that or the patience to slog through a lot of the amateurish storytelling. Sometimes its not about nostalgia. Its about how older games were immediately fun pieces of software that focused solely on gameplay and a balanced feedback of control and challenge. I still love new games, but haven't even jumped into this generation for this very reason. Interesting...

Well said John. I would like to enjoy the game straight out of the box without downloading updates, patches or upgrading firmware. Just like it was not long time ago with PS1 or 2.

Congratulations on 150 videos, I found them by way of Metal Jesus Rocks channel. I would also encourage Nintendo to cut the price of the Wii U for the holidays, I want Mario Maker lol. I also want a 2D mario game for the switch when it comes out. Sony is killin it but they need to realize that we won't pay a hefty premium for minor upgrades to the PS4. If PC games weren't crappy/buggy ports I would just stick to PC gaming personally. Or give us mouse support so that FPS games aren't nerfed down for console play ain't nobody got time for that.

john, you may be the first parent i've ever seen that actually cared about esrb, i work in retail and a lot of my coworkers have kids everywhere from 4 yrs of age up to 20, and they all play the same stuff, CoD, battlefield, assassins creed. i mean hell, look at how many parents let there kids watch walking dead and don't blink an eye at it. Now i'm not saying you caring is a bad thing, i actually respect it quite a bit, i'm saying that there's no way game companies will start making more kids games because the audience for those are games are getting smaller and smaller every day.

When I got my 1st computer (a Commodore 64) it came with 8 games! Although 1 (Shadow Dancer) didn’t work ☹️

For me the games arent there yet for vr. Maybe and i mean maybe if capcom delivers for re7 i will get a psvr and ps pro.

great video, here is what I would really like to see 1 a wireless zapper remake from Nintendo with a duck hunt remake a upgraded rob the robot with the same look. also I want 2 see a top down Zelda and a 2.5D Metroid and contra again. this time make them all multi-player 2 the move works and V.R. seems cool but they need a wireless guncon controller for it in the same style as the guncon 2 with a new time crisis combo pack but make the gun compatible with other games.

Man! What you said about the M rated games thats awesome i am the same as well . tho im not really older yet im 18 barely haha ,but i do feel that right now there is just a bit too many M rated games. i mean not to ger me wrong those are great , they are great games but i feel as tho Sony has to really expand a bit more. More triple A platformers puzzle games, Adventure games in general. There have been a few of course like Ratchet and Clank but there really needs to be more diversity right now. The Last Gaurdian is coming up wich looks great and i hope more of those types of games get made. I really feel more of a Shooter heavy vibe with this generation of Triple A games and M rated games generally.

All great points by the immortal John Hancock. As a gamer who has and loves the ps1, ps2, and ps3, i just cant get myself to get the ps4 Pro or even the ps4. The last Guardian is the only real game i can see that may convince me to get the ps4 or the pro. Maybe i feel like the small refresh of the systems are just not worth it anymore.

I agree with all of your points. Especially the VR stuff. I just think it is too expensive for "tech demo" style games. Mabye if a great game would come out and be bundled with one of the systems PSVR, Rift, or Vive then it could become big but currently it just isn't worth it. Heck VR might be one of those fads that is around for a year then disappears only to come back in 5-10 years and be great once hardware is more readily available (and cheaper) to run AAA quality games at the correct resolution.

I agree about the frustration with Nintendo. I feel like 2/3 of the new 3ds and NES classics went to scalpers in my area. That really sucks for people like me who have enjoyed Nintendo their whole life and are excited about this stuff and for people who's kids may have wanted them for xmas.

Great point about the M rated games. I wait until my kids are asleep before I play something they should not see. Many of todays games have unnecessary language that makes me wonder why? As a gamer and a parent I would love more kid friendly games for Sony and X-box.

I got a good deal PS4 Pro with Fallout 4 and Infamous second son all for the cost of the console alone this Xmas. I'm happy with it. I'm not into VR I just enjoy gaming the standard way on a TV with a controller

what you said about psvr is spot on. I don't want to get it because of the high price. and there aren't many games that will entice me to pay that amount for a novelty.

4:00 thank you sooo much for saying that, I have always thought that Sony put way to much pressure on Hello Games for No Man's Sky to be a system seller. And I believe that Sony made HG rush an unfinished product out to boost Sony's sales.

I recently subscribed to your channel because I really enjoy your videos, even though I have not been a gamer for more than 15 years and do not personally enjoy playing anymore, but I am nostalgic about the 70's and 80's systems. Some of the reasons I do not enjoy gaming anymore is because older systems are a hassle with new tvs, plus they break down, plus you are then limited to the old console so you cannot even try newer games. A message I have for game consoles companies is even if you do package a game with the system, how can I be happy with the price of the system and a signal game? Why can't you include a few retro game collections or have some backwards/multi-console compatibility, or both? Maybe I just am not the demographic video game manufactures want to entice anymore, but I just can't justify hundreds of dollars for hardware which may be outdated in just a few years. And I hate online downloads or updating or whatever. Just make the system work right the first time.

I would have to say that the Wii is probably my favorite console just because you can play game cube on it and I always love smash bros. but mainly because of the classics that I can get for now, I wish it pad perfect dark just because that is my favorite game, but I have an Xbox one I can play it on.

Hey The Immortal John Hancock, I felt your overall analysis of the three companies was fairly concise. I truly believe many Nintendo fans feel that way too. I'm 30 so I did grow up with Nintendo and have been collecting on and off for about 10 years. It feels like Nintendo hasn't known what to do with themselves for about a decade. I enjoyed the wii and the wii u was ok, but my perspective is - all my friends, who are roughly my age, arent buying Nintendo products at all now. My generation is the last that had the NES and SNES as childhood systems and almost everyone had a 64. After that most of them switched over to PS or xBox. That's a huge obstacle for Nintendo to overcome. There's a huge library of classics that could be brought into the future geared towards adults. Unless they make some seriously big moves... SOON... Im afraid Nintendo won't make it to the next generation :'( I feel retro games are better than games of today.

First of all thanks to Jaan you are the only person to talk about what were the problems and issues in the modern gaming consoles my message is to Sony please make the games like the previous days I want to unlock all the stuff in the game instead of buying stupid DLC don't concentrate too much on online mode in the game and I don't like the console is taking too much time to turn on and turn off

I picked up a wii u last year during the $249 mk8 bundle sale. I feel that even with the low quantity of overall games in comparison to ms and sony, the quality can still justify the price. Nintendo needs to really leverage their e-shop. I agree on the xb1 home interface. Its riddled with sensory overload and seems like it was designed for something touch screen and not controller operated. Sony has some strong titles for 2017, but I expect this is when they get comfortable and coast on any momentum they have built over the last 24 months. Microsoft seriously needs to follow through on developing some new ip's. At the time, that is what made the 360 so iconic despite the glaring hardware failures.

I think I'd urge PlayStation and Microsoft to remember that great software equals great sales, and that no matter how many more teraflops your system has over the competition, no one will care if the game library isn't there to back it up.

Waiting for a PS4 Pro special edition myself, but they keep cranking out normal PS4 special editions to use up lower spec stock perhaps. Great games already to take advantage of it, and the upcoming Final Fantasy releases might have special editions so I'll pick a Pro up soon regardless, I'd just prefer a stylized one if possible. M$ keeps porting games to Windows, but the exclusivity for the Windows Store only has held me off from picking them up. The porting itself and the lesser versions on console compared to others gives me less reasons to pick up the console itself, but I'm eyeing the Scorpio for an eventual purchase. The game subscription service is great for a lot of people as well, though I prefer physical copies when possible. Nintendo, at this point the Switch is out. Games are a coming, but not enough to warrant a console purchase until the end of 2017 perhaps. And yeah, they need to start doing Metroid right, for sure. Wii U game updates abound for a while, or ports that would fair better on PC or other consoles. Exclusives will be plenty eventually, but I'm still bummed they can't get to 1080p, instead hoping the gimmicks will be enough. Also, their digital store rarely has sales, and when they do, they're very minor. Digital games are often more on the digital store than retail copies are! Though this isn't just a Nintendo issue. Sega, Dreamcast 2 please.

Great video. Interesting to hear your thoughts on the future as opposed to the past. I think all the companies need to focus on making new games that offer different experiences than what was available before. - Nintendo especially needs to release more games, as the past few years have been worse than the N64 days. They also need to ensure each of their top franchises makes at least one appearance per console. Metroid could have been the one game to really utilize the Wii U controller, scanning the environment with different visors for secrets, but instead we got Federation Force on the 3DS. Lame. - Sony also needs to bring back full backward compatibility to their console. Their refusal to allow PS1 games to be played on PS4, or any PS3 digital downloads to be transferred over and played on PS4, is unforgivable and is like spitting in the face of their loyal customers who have been with them from the beginning. I still play my PS3 more than my PS4. - On the other hand, Microsoft seem to be turning it around with their focus on backward compatibility, which has honestly been the first thing to make me consider getting an XBox One. XBox's exclusive library always seems to be really focused on shooters and racing games though, so I think they need to inject a bit of variety into their first-party releases and provide more types of games to play. Excellent video John, whats gets me the most about all the gaming companies is their business plans centered around cyclical consumption (think Apple products). Nintendo is probably the worst offender but both Sony and Microsoft also do it . In my opinion it leads to a diluted gaming experience and an even more expensive hobby. Buying new games has also become ridiculously expensive. Every time I buy a new game at Gamestop they push the "season pass" on you and it ends up being about a $100 transaction if you go with it. I joke with my nephew that I would hate to be in his shoes because gaming is so expensive these days. Lastly, Nintendo definitely has the most work to do. Growing up with Nintendo it really breaks my heart to see how bad they've been with consoles of late. I can honestly say I have only played a dozen or so games that I actually enjoyed across the Wii and Wii U. Last game I bought for the Wii U was Star Fox Zero and the controls on that game ruined it for me. I believe Nintendo needs to stop worrying about "gimmicks" and focus on great games, great gameplay and strong 3rd part support. Hopefully Nintendo delivers with the Switch.
