Hot Pink as an album is so slept on like Addiction, but i love how creative she was performing Say So in a different genre instead of the same boring performance of it
Hot Pink is probably her worst album though. It has bops and fun videos. And it did what it was supposed to do as far as breaking her into the mainstream. But it’s her most generic collection of songs.
@@liteflightify I love when y'all generalize your taste to others, when like and dislikes are different to everyone lol, to me is just funny and pathetic. I like most of her albums and if i don't it doesn't mean it is a flop or crap. It mean just overall peoples don't enjoy it.
She pissed me off so bad with that Scarlet bs era i havent listened to that album in over a year and i freaking miss it dude. Justice for my song Shine 😂😂
i love how clearly ur a big fan of doja cat but you criticize her when needed..its giving unbiased recollection of events, imma go click on the subscribe button
Let’s also bring up the fact she stated she’s happier now so criticizing how she is now is kind of fucked up because she expressed how unhappy she used to be
Love her or hate her. Doja has pioneered the movement against toxic fan culture and parasocial relationships. She has made it clear that she owes us nothing and is just here to create art. I respect it.
Right fans out here be acting like the own someone just for liking their shit. Look at the Star wars fan base, perpetually outraged by anything produced by George Lucas the man who supposedly gave them the best space opera of all time. It's an illness
If people dislike her because of shaving her hair or going santanic clearly have weird morals, I stopped listening to her because she basically defending grooming if she doesn’t want to hear the experiences of the victims, the entertainment industry really doesn’t take grooming seriously and that is disgusting to me
Ive realized most of them were only mad at her for shaving her hair and not putting wigs. Because when she started to put wigs during her European leg tour they started to say that she was back.
I think she realised early on that she can do and say whatever she wants and remain famous and successful. No matter how bad the backlash is, she remains a star. Her career isnt ending. And ‘cancelling’ celebs actually rarely happens.
Doja Cat's career has definitely taken a hit due to her controversial behavior and antics online, causing her to isolate many of her former fans. While her career hasn't ended, it's clear that she won't be able to reach the same level of success she had with albums like "Hot Pink" and "Planet Her." This is evident in the poor sales of her latest album "Scarlet," with only the song "Paint the Town Red" charting.
This is a great video. I’ve struggled with my feelings about Doja for years because I LOVED HER in college. I was there for Hot Pink and Moo. I was truly ride or die but when the first racists scandal came out I was like nope! Then it sucked to see her blow up so big after literally joking about her being canceled for being heinously antiblack. I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can feel nostalgic about her old music and leave all her new stuff alone. It’s been very validating watching scandal after scandal and seeing people act surprised as if the anti black stuff wasn’t enough to tell us who she is. She is very very talented though I’d never deny that. She can just go be talented somewhere else lol.
The “first racist scandal” was literally completely made up by some dude on Twitter that didn’t like her. There were never any “racist chatrooms”. There’s plenty of reasons to be critics of Doja. But one of the reasons many people dismiss the criticism is because folks combine reality with made up narratives.
I used to bump her music heavily in high school and now Im out of college and barely keep up with her. The multiple scandals and the instances where she made fans feel unappreciated was enough for me. I saved and worked hard to afford a concert ticket for the Scarlet tour and then the week after the Threads scandal happened. Ive never been able to fully recover my patriotism for her music and dont think i will. Who she was back then vs. who she is now are two very different people and Ive accepted that Ive grown apart from who she is in this current moment.
I think part of the reason I’ve stopped checking for her music besides her demeaning her own catalogue, is the fact she hasn’t done a rock album…she has the perfect vocals and energy for it 🤷🏾♀️
Doja was that girl in 2019.We were in college & I remember every girl in the dorm loving her music. She was funny, confident & sexy. Idk why she did a 180 , but it felt like a careersuicide as most of her fans were the bubbly , outgoing youth not edgy demon fantasisers.
I think what happened is she got exactly what she wanted, her complete power and success or peak and that was JUST enough for true colors to bleed .. cause ain’t no wayyyy all the scandals was coming back to back
yall are missing the point her saying "how my demons look" and other things along that lines is mocking people who said she sold her soul for fame and that were criticizing her behavior/"demons". the entire scarlet album and concept is her combating or making jokes about things people have hated on her for like her constantly wearing wigs so then she shaves all her hair off and performs in an outfit, stage, and background dancers covered in wigs. its sarcasm its basically dojo cat telling y'all to eat shit.
@@stickypinktip lmao " y'all to eat shit " , like she's the one in need of fans not viceversa. There's no need to askiss Doja when there are new pop girls coming everyday. She obvi was ragebaiting like lilnasx but it never landed as Scarlet tanked even with all the charades she went on.
@@vismayavijoy4818 doja is in the top 50 most listened to artist in the ENTIRE world she really isn't in need of fans. no ones ass kissing her thats the entire point of her music. also the new pop girls lack substance hence why none of them are reaching doja except for maybe sabrina but even then sabrina could never perform to the level that dojo can. definitely didnt tank but I think again youre missing the point she no longer is doing it to have fans or get streams she's making music she genuinely enjoys making.
@@stickypinktip lmao Rihanna who hasn't done any music in years is 7th on the list. How can you compare Sabrina who is 8th on the list & Doja who is 38th? Guess which Doja songs are the most streamed & which is the least? She ain't in need of fans & fans ain't in need of her no more. There are way less problematic options. That's why her new music, her appearances or anything ain't creating the fuss like before. The fans she rejected was in fact her biggest support. The foot soldier behavior you are showing ain't gone cover the facts. She herself destroyed her mega stardom image.
I remember the moment i saw the video for Rules for the first time, I immediately became a fan. But idk.. it is very important for me that the artist respects her fans.
@@kay-collinswell she is great. Her talent never left and will always show. Her songs now are just songs she made back then, before her career skyrocketed. She’s just going back to her roots
But thank you!!! I actually commented this pin another video the other day… this woman is very talented; I said at the time date I say, once Nicki retires, she’s taking that throne expeditiously! Nicki ain’t got nothing on her
@@joseeeee2626 Nobody is acting dumb lmao Ik that no one can take MJ’s spot but I’m just using him as an example to show how stupid people sound when they try to make it seem like newbies are superior to trail blazers who they take inspiration from lol
honestly annoys me that it feels like she's stopping herself from making the best music she can, just in case they dont go viral. i know you felt this too if you listened to scarlet. all of those songs sound like they were stopped before getting to perfection.
She was wrong for the whole thing? If she was gonna reach out to someone for help about Joseph she could’ve went to an adult that knows him, not a teenager to be matchmaker. And her reaction afterwards saying that it was power play and exploitative when that situation nowhere near was exploitative was even worse
She needs to get off the internet and leave her label because they don't promote her music, they overwork her. Coz the Scarlet era was kinda weak if we're being real the aesthetics could've gone further. And how do the keep letting her music get pirated. But the weirdest thing is thst the majority never really cares for Doja's controversies unless pertaining to how she looks now bc the "old Doja" was just as problematic as the current one
The scarlet era wasn’t for numbers or for anyone it for her herself. It was kinda like writing notes in a notebook. It was to prove to people she’s a rapper and talk about lots of flawed things since becoming a huge star. I think her next album will be a mixture of all era’s. Back to the point Scarlet wasn’t released to be a planet her or a hot pink but sorta a message
@@Itstheofficialyesbyi hope so too, i hope the next album is like a fully ready doja to fully prove her a megastar with a album with all of her elements
Being disconnected from the internet is the best thing ever because a) i never had to hear about any of the backlashes b) and I could just enjoy the music
She has her professional act in order, but her mental/personal affairs need to be sorted out behind the scenes :( she's said some horrible things and she doesn't even care about who she hurts tbh
@@jredthebred849 Obviously, they’re talking about the “irl” interactions we see online and the way she acts. You don’t have to know a celebrity personally to think they’ve done something or multiple things wrong.
Doja has lost my respect because not only does she lowkey detest her Blackness but she was actively blocking people who were telling her about hwr predator bf
Contrary to most people, the Scarlet era was what really solidified my love for Doja as an artist. I've always been more of a fan of her less pop and more rap side so, it was so cool to see her finally go fully into that more rnb and rap direction. And idk... I just like seeing her talk her ish and not gaf and make mistakes and f*ck up and be weird and challenge beauty stereotypes. She just feels a lot more human to me now and I like that.
I would of support it if it didnt come after the fact she said she mads pop music for money, then made fun of those ppl who made her money bc of her pop songs, said she wanted to "weed" out all the fake fans, says shes going back to rap like she didnt create rhat era herself?? Like dont get mad at your audience bc they found you when you were under a terrible contract and had to make a pop album for the labels. I dont care if you're cocky like Megan, conceited like FloMili or high ego like Latto, just dont shit on the ppl that helped you create what you wanted and then get mad
@@babyconch6459I agree her lashing out on the fans was not a good look and made me think of her differently.. then she tried to play if off as a joke but never really addressed it completely
Same. I never listened to any of her albums all the way through until Scarlet. Her live shows during this era have been untouchable, and she is proving herself to be one of the greatest performers of our time imo. I don’t see her as ungrateful, but I agree that she seems to be closer to her most authentic self, even when she was lashing out. So many see her as a fake now, but I see a talented woman finally letting go of the illusory pretences that fame often forces. I just don’t think she cares to market herself as likeable anymore.
I love doja cat so much, she’s gorgeous, so unique, immensely talented, gorgeous fits and a phenomenal dancer and performer!! her music and lyrics never disappoint me💗
I remember when she liked my tweet once. That had to have been 2016. 😂 My twin and I discovered her in 2020 when we were really sick with Covid. Yes, I noticed the move in Like That too!
Yesssss Problematic Popstar but in all seriousness I do enjoy her music but some of her Antics can turn me off but one thing I think no one can deny is her talent anyway great vidddddd love 💙
i stopped following her music after the boyfriend stuff. but i did hear paint the town red everywhere i went in public for a hot second. despite all of that, i want to watch the cochella performances now, haha. no one can deny when she pours her heart into it, her talent is undeniable.
planet her was my favorite era of doja, it might just be because i started listening to her in mid to late 2020, and honestly i can see why. tonight, naked, i don't do drugs, up and down, need to know all go so hard
Doja was my GIRL!!!! She was my representation. The quirky, alternative, nerdy black girl… Except for her anti black feelings and tragic mixed girl issues. But she was really my girl, I was a huge fan. I was happy when she started going mainstream…. Ttttthen she shaved off her eyebrows and started doing devil ish. That’s where she lost me.
People stay sleeping on Doja's artistry in the female rap scene fr. She can rap, sing, dance, produce her own beats, etc. She is the total powerhouse all by herself. But what I want to talk about is her latest project, Scarlet. Scarlet was a deviation from her mainly pop records, but man was it a significant marker of growth for her. We saw her trying new themes and improving lyrically. I loved that for her, and I loved Scarlet although I will say the rollout of Scarlet was messy and some of the songs felt somewhat rushed. I loved the new approach, and it's something im not really seeing any other female rappers doing now. Btw, unpopular opinion: Boss Bitch should've been Doja's first number 1 and biggest song cos it was EVERYWHERE.
@@timothynguyen6190unfortunately, her entire album was a pass for me. i was literally torturing myself sitting through her songs. she's a singles artist.
@@ChriseansLostTooth it just lacks substance & a lot of the songs sound the same. she’s an AMAZING performer tho. it sucks that pop isn’t her preferred type of genre bc motivation was an obvious hit. singles sales artists most def might be her strong suit
New viewer now new subscriber! Doja i s lone of those girls who had a friend in the internet before she blew up (like her and the internet were bestied down). Gaining popularity caused a rift between her and her “friend,” and now we have a doja cat who seems to be lonely. Her talent is unmatched, her work ethic is insane, the music bops, but I think losing her “bestie” created what we currently have today. I loved Hot Pink, Planet Her secured the GP, but Scarlet was…not necessarily something I cared for. You should do a video revisiting scarlet because I would love to hop in the comments and see how people are currently feeling about that album!
She had a falling out with the black community and people sensitive about demonic talk. Shes still extremely successful despite that set to headline Coachella a second time, I hate to say she’s one of the best performers we have now in terms of stage presence and aesthetic. If she didn’t get “cancelled” she’d be unstoppable. Shes still (on paper) the 2nd biggest female rapper right now after Nicki.
I did like a lot of the facts you touched on in the video. I do wish you would’ve mentioned why Dr. Luke was credited under Doja’s previous work, given that he discovered her after Purrr! and is the reason why she was signed in the first place. She was not loyal to him, but contractually bound to him.
A lot of Doja’s frustrations and rants and trolling I get. The internet is full of groupthink and paranoia and people projecting their insecurities on others. And I understand not wanting to be a Pop-star puppet. A lot of people feel as if they have a right to control people’s creative outputs, how they look, their personalities just because their fans. Some of what she’s said/done has been bothersome. And she hasn’t always been mature or thoughtful with responses. Ultimately, I’m here for the music and performance. The performance is high level. The music sometimes is. I do look forward to how her career progresses. Her weakest album is Hot Pink, btw. It was a fun era and the album had bops. But it’s overall her most forgettable and nondescript album.
6:52 the heavy metal version of say so will forever be some of the most iconic reworking of a popsicle I have ever heard in my life That’s still the only version of say so that I listen to to this day
she is literally the definition of separating the art from the artist. i used to love her sooo bad omg, but when she started with all her antics it completely threw me off. i still love her, especially her Hot Pink & Planet Her albums, but it’s so hard to rock with her personality now
Really good content about her career. I started to notice her in 2021 and I liked her but I didn’t pay much attention to her as a person or career. When she tweeted about the albums that she made but for her they weren’t part of her music, I think she is being so honest about how as an artist she is recognizes that she made them to be part of the industry and this way having enough fame and money she could finally show her artistic side based on her own beliefs and references. Also when she tweeted about the way of her fans named themselves is a clear statement about her being really honest with them and instead they are concerned or just fallowing everything she does she was given them a real good advice about real life. Again so brace of her . For me she really cares about them . The fun part is as an adult I started to pay attention ( attention) because of that kind of attitude. I felt for the first time that she had something to say. After that her visual and the album Scarlet , all the videos and also the tour it’s been so well done and I loved all the conception of every single detail. The refs come from so many good and talented artists from the 90’s like Tricky visually and musically when was ok have more dark and heavy music. The fashion was literally orchestrated to make an impact and statement about her new era . She attended the Schiaparelli’s Haute Couture fashion show covered in red crystals all over her body and if I’m not mistaken, it was before the launch of her new album also for the next fashion show she attended again the Schiaparelli’s Haute Couture show wearing an outfit similar to the deluxe version of the same album . The outfits the whole tour especially the Europe leg are really one of the best moments about fashion and music .
Lorry Hill stated in her video that doja was pretty before all her tweakments but yeah it's the name of the game, almost everyone gets surgeries or other procedures in that industry, also I believe megan was in her almost natural series where she said the only thing she got done in her face was her nose. Sth people gotta understand is that a lot of stars are pretty when they start out but just pretty doesn't cut it in that industry so they get work done and good work is subtle so the untrained eye might not notice it. Also lorry's work isn't commenting on people's appearance, she raises awareness abt plastic surgeries and helps a lot of girls. Plastic surgery denial is a big issue today and it creates unrealistic beauty standards for women.
Omg 😩 people always leave the Lorry Hill situation out. Seeing Doja cuss out that lady on stream is what did it for me. I feel like everybody just forgot about it, like how?? That’s one of the most important factors that contributes to her unlikability. Personally I love the art, just not the artist ^^
@@BabyFacedDolly she was sooo awful to her fr and said the most nasty age and body shaming things ever. When lorry was extremely nice and respectful in her video
It's the way you hit the nail on the head with every point! Also yay for another Talk Dirty loverrr bc no one acknowledges that song fr and it bothers me so much lol😭Doja truly is such a talented artist, I just need her to grow up a bit and stop with the angsty teen antics that she insists on clinging to bc she deserves to be viewed as the insanely talented artist and performer that she is! Very few artists regardless of gender are on her level so imagine the heights she could take it if she just chilled out and owned up to her mistakes rather than meme-ifying or wrongly justifying them
There was no “beef”. He, for no reason other than clout, publicly revealed a conversation with her that he initiated. She called him out for that. And that was the end of it. You’re giving Noah way too much credit, thinking he was some catalyst to anything 😂.
I remember that. Sure it was a little weird Doja messaged him while he was a minor, but he shouldn’t have posted the messages. Never really got why so many people never called out Noah for that.
@@monaalona4744Honestly dont get why he screenshotted his dms and posted it online for any other reason but to humiliate Doja for having a crush on his costar
@@liteflightify ... Hes literally a kid and reveled a harmless text about her needing to ask a kid for someone info like she not fuckinf Doja Cat and knows his insta. Doja cat: shave her head People : the fall of doja cat Like she just shaved her head she didn't change her personality or her voice she said she always hated having hair so she shaved her head it's like when a man become a woman every one support him(I'm not talking about the girl in the video) and she just trolled y'all and it worked
@@anonimyszdidn’t say that. She has admitted to surgery on her body. You can see her scars thru all these horrendous revealing looks she has to wear to stay relevant. Pitiful!
“how much plastic surgery she has now” all she did was get a boob lift and lipo on her thighs, you’re acting like she got tons of plastic in her butt and filler in her face. She’s still got the same meat she was born with, relax. Plus she still has no surgery on her face lol.
For the record (and I'm not a fan so no bias here) critically successful albums tend to not always chart/sell well. Art doesn't always translate to commercial success and alignining both is a chore that I wish people didn't feel the need to do but makes sense as performers and musicians have to eat too.
Imma love Doja Cat in any era. I was there when she would be on live making songs from SCRATCH. Making beats, writing lyrics; look I get that she was being “demonic” but I really don’t understand why that’s being misinterpreted when she was just trolling people who were saying she was part of the Illuminati. I never took it as her worshipping anything. She’s a troll. Her new fans need to get with the program. Artists are allowed to venture off and make different genres of music. She has always been a creative. She was always rapping and even back then I can tell she was a fan of old school rap. It was in her flow, in her lyrics, just not in her looks yet and now that it is everyone has a problem with it. That’s my take, I’ll love Doja in any era she’s in 🤞🏽❤️
You got me going through this whole woman catalog, I mean I always liked her. I think of her like if Lady Gaga, Nikki Minaj and Left eye had a baby it would be Doja 😂
I love her music, scarlet and hot pink are amazing, she’s funny and her fashion is next level. And you can’t argue with her talent as a performer and dancer
oh my god, i was so sick of say so by the end of the month it released lol. i started skipping it every single time i listened to the album daily, and then they added like 30 versions with various nicki verses in the beginning, end, middle, outro, intro, etc 💀💀 tooo much!!!!
@@ShamyaRhames lol yeah i was in love with it at first but they went overboard with it. I really loved all other doja's songs but they only ever played say so 😂
We’re all problematic when a microscope is held up to us. No one behaves perfectly. I don’t love the (accidental, I hope..? 😬) antisemitism and low key colourism, however she is half Jewish/ half Black so I genuinely wonder whether it was purposefully contentious or if she was just being her chaotic/ clumsy self and simply saying whatever came out of her mouth without worrying about backlash (as we people with auDHD do). Anyway, I’m a fan- she’s young and everyone fucks up. ❤️🔥🌈
Tbh Doja cat/ Amala is one of if not the greatest influencers alive right now . And I’m not saying this as a fan but like more as a critic. Like like she’s sewing fans that changes OK and it’s just a part of life and that you just have to deal with it sometimes. And don’t worry so fing much like you only live once and I respect that as a fan of Doja.
I love this deep dive! One thing that isn’t mentioned often (since it’s been scrubbed from the internet) was her first public boyfriend JAWNY and his allegations and how that also impacted her first cancellation. His team worked so hard to get all of that erased.
The minute Need to Know dropped, I was a stan, and I played the song for my friend and they said “weird”. Guess what they were listening to two weeks later?
The girl is strange but she's has a thing about her i just can't put my finger on it. Also the reason she hates Amala is because her label rushed her to dropped it following the success of Candy. Also ur so real for Juicy w out Tyga and Bottom B
About 5 mins in and I agree with literally everything youre saying! So many tracks were slept on, including "HONEY IN MY TEA" on sound cloud. It felt like sucha hidden gem. It really has a special place in my heart. All of those last few tracks that she still managed to share on soundcloud between Amala and Hot Pink, just ah~ Edit* This was a great video! I appreciate your coverage. I fell off around the Sam Hyde nonsense. I also completely missed that she downplayed covid like that sheesh. But I knew that her latest album would be worth listening to, so maybe I'll finally give it a try.
