Damn, so this abused kid got more time in prison for killing her abusers than Ghislane Maxwell did for facilitating child sexual abuse. If that doesn’t speak volumes about how fubar our criminal justice system really is, I don’t know what does.

I wish she could've just run away with Thomas and start over without her parents. Her life was so sad and now she will be in prison for most of the rest if it😔

Also, an older kid may be all she had. I was severely abused as a child. Whe. I started voicing out about it as a teen I lost a lot of friends because they were kids and didn't know what to say, so I was left having a lot of older friends. I counted down the days I turned 18 since I was 12. I finally ran away at 17. My parents continued the abuse even after I moved out. They eventually started in on my kids and I finally had the courage to cut them off going on almost 3 years now. Murder is yes wrong, but I've lived through it and I can say...... some people shouldn't be here. There some people so filled with hate and unwillingness to grow as a person, there just isn't room for them. I have zero patients for people who hurt kids and they have no place here. And the moms that looked the other way doesn't get a pass either. I've walked away from many people and situations for my kids. But here is one of my examples. My mom watched and listened a my dad grabbed me by the hair, slammed my head into the wall, as a 14 yr old pulled my pants down, whipped my ass, then got up and proceeded to kick me in the ribs until my mom calmly SD that's probably enough. Why? Because I wanted to blow dry my hair to look good for my birthday the next day and it was past 10 pm. Yup, head bashed and ribs kicked over wanting dry hair before bed. No, I didn't Murder my parents, but sometimes I think maybe o should've. My sister would've been spared the crippling mental issues she is going through now and my down syndrome brother wouldn't have to take the abuse until he dies. Why don't I take custody you ask? Parents have money and money makes a fake good home. Which despite reports and many photographed bruises, cps never took me and just told my dad to stop putting bruises on me.

Omg, I'm sorry but I feel so much for this girl. The fact that she felt more free in prison says a lot. I think the justice system failed her, and her mother failed her.

I'm sorry, I know many people will disagree with me but unless a child goes on a murder spree or is a serial killer, I don't think they should be charged as adults. My reasoning: let's say the average age of murders is 38 years old and they get a first degree murder charge and are sentenced to life without parole and they live til their 70-75 years old (average life span) that means they are only spending approximately 32-38 years in prison. A child of age 16 gets life without parole, they are spending 55-60 years in prison. How is that fair? Let alone, I think they should be punished definitely, but I do think that they are redeemable. Unless they are psychopaths. They should get the opportunity to reform and get out and become productive members of society. So many people these days just want them locked up for life for punishment sake, for revenge. The old 'eye for an eye' adage. Do they know they did something wrong, yes, but teenagers are impulsive, and do not think about consequences when they act. It's a scientific fact that children's/ young adults brains, their frontal lobes are not fully developed til they are approximately 25 years old. Like I said, this is just my opinion.

Ugh. I’m torn. I wana side with Ashley. So bad. She held herself accountable.. and she did what she did to survive and help her siblings. I’m on her side. Some people have no choice but to live with monsters. It was a bad reality for all.

I was actually going to do did that to my stepdad....I cudnt take him beating my mum on a LITERALLY nightly basis. Plus, since I wasn't his own daughter I got beat too. I take issue with a state law that tries 17 year-olds as adults. That’s not an adult. She really didn’t have the option to leave because I bet that same state recognizes parents as legal guardians with all rights entailed until the child is 18. That’s really messed up, Wisconsin! She should get less time because she was a juvenile and committed this crime out of legitimate fear. She’s not a danger to others.

The age of consent in Wisconsin is 16. She could’ve legally dated him and lived with him at 17. Kids have more balls on the internet because they’re not monitored as much as we were. We had 1 computer in our living room that we all shared. They have secret electronics and finstas all that. I just went on her Pinterest and she’s still active on it 😂 There’s one updated 22hrs ago. The one collection has over 6k pins. She goes hard on there. Lol

She could not have legally moved out against her parents wishes without being emancipated, which is a very difficult thing to do, especially if the parents are fighting against it. She legally would not have even been able to decide what parent she wanted to live with at 16. There's no age in Wisconsin, until you reach 18, that you can choose where you want to live, either you live with your parents or guardian or the courts decide.

If that policeman would’ve listen to her and done some thing about the situation this all might not have happened! He was absolutely wrong! It is against the law or anyone including parents to lay their hands on a minor put bruises on them etc. is against the law! He should be let go from the police forces that far as I’m concerned!

I don’t know if it’s necessarily that kids these days have bigger balls, I think it’s more that they just DONT CARE. Things aren’t the same These days. People Lack common courtesy and empathy towards others. People are much more selfish nowadays than ever before

The initial report you stated is more likely, especially with the little sister witnessing part of the tragic battle to the death. It's sad but, every person has a say in their ending.... Lived less than 2 hours away and never heard of this case until now! CASE SUGGESTION: Her name is Brittany Zimmermann from Marshfield, WI she was murdered in Madison, WI in 2008. Arrest was finally made in 2020.

A mother who places her children in danger, allows her children to be abused & places a man above the welfare of her children is a monster. Ashley may have done the wrong thing but the suffering she went through could almost describe this as self defence

Ok, I am not victim blaming or anything like that. I don't know how much of this abuse has been proved, but does it not seem odd that everywhere she goes, chaos goes. I understand teenage angst, but with what she was writing and what was going on in her head, I can't believe anyone is defending this girl.
