The best part of the game is making the alien feel real and powerful. As if it were learning from every interaction and it showed some level of confidence like how it would double check areas. It’s ability to search and apply pressure is what makes the game. Alien isolation really was a gem.
Probably one of the biggest holy shit moments i had in the game was a little while after getting the flamethrower. Even with it, i tried to be as stealthy as i possibly could but of course had to blast the Xenomorph away a couple times due to making some mistakes. Then i heard it screaming behind me and its thundering footsteps in a full sprint. I pulled out my flamethrower, aimed at it and watched my jaw drop as it broke off its attack without me even pulling the trigger. It visibly hesitated when seeing that weapon. It's small things like this that make a good game great.
@Jon Snow agree. Not all games need to have sequels. Sometimes less is more. They did make a fnaf rip off of this game that I think was the sequel, but I really don't remember.
In this day and age of political correctness and 'woke' cancel culture, i don't think i would want to see how it turned out, tbh. Especially considering how Disney now has the rights to the Alien franchise.
@@galaxytraveler5779 Are you kidding? Or did Disney seriously buy the franchise? If I were the owner of the Alien brand, I would never give the franchise to Disney even if they gave me millions of dollars.
I guess this game just hit exactly the right spot for me, because every review laments it being "overly long" but the game could have been 3x longer for me and I'd have been fine with it. It never wore on me or felt repetitive like it seems to have to every one who has reviewed it, I loved every second.
@@GABE_is_here it's a shame because after a bit of time had passed it became very popular. I think stupid reviews like IGN's did some damage initially.
If I could describe this game in one word it would be "atmospheric". The devs absolutely nailed the aesthetic and sound design to the point where you genuinely feel like you're on the Alien set. It is absolutely perfect in that regard. I'd love to play this game in VR at some point, but I'd probably shit myself inside out.
I played this with my mum who’s a MASSIVE Alien fan she introduced me to alien when I was 10, we both agreed when it ended that this is the only other alien sequel. It goes Alien, Alien: isolation, Aliens. That our cannon
Come on! Suck it up man, your a xeno for god’s sake! Don’t you wanna kill some more? We need another one, even though you give us long term trauma! ;v;
Fantastic review. But after blasting the Alien off the space station the game is not dragging on and becoming boring, instead the second highlight of the game kicks in: The crazed-out androids. When the Alien is gone for some time we can enjoy the "android cemetary" (dismanting and reprogramming facility), the android factory which is dark and creepy, and the Apollo AI with the machine rooms and the AI core. Followed by the endgame which means the return of the Xenomorphs in the huge nest and some great space walks. But after the first Alien is blasted out into space it quickly turns out that the game becomes even better and way more creepy, with an interesting change of mood and atmosphere and interesting logs to read, a feeling of dread and isolation because there are no more survivors left anywhere on the station after the androids got rid of all of them. Eerie empty offices and machine rooms await with random red-eyed Joe`s lurking in the dark and wanting to "help". I personally like this rather dark and eerie and android-focused part of the mid-game section very much. But a very important part is the absolute superb and lightyears ahead graphics quality. While the graphics quality of almost all games become quickly outdated (and even outright ugly and low polygon and blurred, with too many "optimizations" like pop-ins and lowest quality blurry texturing and low quality ingame objects and other typical plagues of last-gen titles), this ancient game from 2014 still looks sharp and offers absolute top-notch quality eye candy in every single room and hallway. Alien Isolation has such a unique graphics quality and style this game won`t look bad and completely outdated in 2025 either ;)
Yeah I disagree that the pacing drags during the middle. Because now that the Alien is gone, your objective is made very clear: To get the Androids back under control and get the station back online. You have a pretty clear end goal.
@Great White 14 I had a similar experience. Never finished the game because of the android switch halfway through, despite playing up until that point multiple times now. Ended up watching gameplay from the hive to the end because I just didn't want to slog through the midgame android section. They feel like more of an annoyance than a real threat, especially in contrast to the alien.
as a speedrunner of the game myself, its a lovable and fucking amazing game, not only for its insane graphics, AI and story otherwise. i highly suggest like everyone i come across to check it out cause its that amazing and i got over 300 hours on it myself aswell as streams praising it and gathering the little but fair community weve built
I haven't played it in a few years, but I put in well over 200 hours myself (maybe 300 honestly), including beating it untold amounts of time and beating it without dying to get that achievement without cheating to do so. Is there any gathering place for the community for this game? I went to the game's subreddit back when I was playing it, but was curious if there are any other places people tend to visit who are fans of the game. Thanks!
I'm playing this for the first time right now, I think I'm about halfway through. I just can't get over the environmental design. it feels like I'm in the original film. Honestly this game deserved to be as successful as RE7RE2Remake were, it's that good.
I have a soft spot for the aesthetic of Alien films ever since I first saw them at a young age I really shouldn't have :D It's hard to describe the joy I felt when Alien Isolation made me feel part of it... The true power of video games.
Props to creative assembly for finally delivering to the public a game that would make Ridley Scott proud! Awesome immersion, lighting, sound, gameplay and a game that will remain timeless.
my first playthrough of it was in early 2020. Only had a Switch up until this time and it just came to switch in Dec. 2019... and I was like heck yeah I want to play that!
Playing this through again now after 5 years so it's all fresh again. Amazing game. The AI is still on point and the immersion is unparalleled. Even the DLC is incredible. Wished they made more games like this. I've never felt anxiety in a game like this since.
This. The ending stretched out longer than expected, but the last mission was full of auto-saves, so we played and played until 3 AM and then ... relief. Like you've never felt relief before ^^. Pacing in perfection,.
Never had an issue with this game's pacing. For me, it's a gift that keeps on giving. The fact I get more time to explore and see more has always been a blessing for me. I understand however that for some, it's a story first, and that interest only lasts for so long. It's just that for me, this is a world. A station with a lot built within it. And for a game this old, it still amazes me how much they crammed into it. And still, it feels like you're only scratching the surface of the sheer magnitude of the station. It's astonishing, and that's why it's my #1 game OAT. It's lightning in a bottle, and I wish more developers recognized its excellence. Alien games before and alien games since, are action shooters. WE NEED ANOTHER SURVIVAL HORROR.
I think the break from the Alien was absolutely necessary, I started to have my suspicions there were still aliens on board when the AI is not playing ball but when I got to the nest I shit my pants and would gladly welcome back the androids, this was all in VR mind you, absolutely terrifying.
This is my favourite game of all time. I think I'm in the minority when I say that I think the second half of the game is a well-deserved departure from the first half.
I just downloaded the recently released port of the game for my iPad Pro. It looks as good, (and in some cases, better), as the original PC release. They included all the DLC with original purchase. No in game monetization whatsoever. The gameplay mechanics for mobile is fantastic AND it also offers keyboard support. The development team that ported over this amazing game should be applauded for their work. Brilliant port.
For me this game was an instant classic, I think even moreso because the Alien franchise in general has really not shined since the original movies and this game really brings the feeling of the old movies to life.
Replaying this game again currently. It's genuinely a masterpiece, oozing with atmosphere and insane attention to detail. The best part for me is that I can genuinely feel the respect and love for the 'Alien' IP, like it's radiating out of every aspect of Isolation's game design. Nothing but total respect, awe and admiration for all the hard work from the dev team.
My girlfriend said it's weird that I was playing this again 😂 come to find out I'm not the only one still playing it. To be honest I like being in this world. Spending time in it is fun
I love the video but I disagree that Alien Isolation is not a "classic". Alien Isolation is one of the greatest survival horror games ever made and is surely a classic in every sense of the word IMO.
6 years later the game is still being talked about. Like if you have completed the game on hard or nightmare Or comment if you have completed the game without dying at all
I just got the game last week. I played through once on novice so that I could have a good look around and to see the story. Then I did a playthrough on Nightmare, it took me around 3 days to complete it.
Ohhhh yeah Alien Isolation. I remember playing it with my girlfried. The game is so good and terrifying that even people who aren't actually playing feel tense just watching, she told me once this game is more scary than the films. When you reach the warm core of Sevastopol and see several aliens wandering around you know you're f*cked up. This game is a gem, it really makes you feel tense all the time.
The scariest part of this game for me wasn't even when you finally encountered the Xenomorph, it was just a random section on the ship quite early on in the game where this jump scare music hit you out of nowhere and there wasn't even anything there. The atmosphere up to that point was getting more and more eerie and the feeling of complete desolation with no signs of life anywhere was just growing up to that moment when you thought the Xenomorph was just going to come out of nowhere, but there was still a long way to go until you encountered it. It was definitely more of a psychological game than a survival sci-fi/horror. It was a bit like Dead Space in that respect where it just had you on edge the whole time you were exploring the ship. Oh and the section where you get to the Facehugger eggs was definitely somewhere I frequently turned the game off. The first time it jumps on you out of nowhere absolutely rocketed me off my seat! It was a good game overall I felt, the devs really captured the atmosphere of the films, that was its number one achievement for me. My only real criticism of it was that it could have done with a Newt like character or someone else on the ship that the player should end up really caring about and maybe lose somewhere along the journey to get emotionally compelled a bit, I felt the game was lacking in that. And like you said, there was pretty much no character growth for Amanda to be seen throughout, which was a but disappointing. Also, the cut scene quality was awful compared to the actual game and really took you out of the experience. So unnecessary by Sega and don't understand why they thought releasing it like that was a good idea. They were better off just using the in game visuals for the scenes and just applying filmic borders, would have worked alot better in my opinion.
I think the cut scenes might have been due to the weaker consoles not being able to run at the highest graphics settings. The comparison to Dead Space is spot on. They games are vastly different. 1st vs 3rd person, shooter vs stealth and all, but the enemies you could only hear crawling around in a mostly dark space station created a very similar atmosphere.
@@thelvadem5713 And to think that some players didn't even notice Ricardo dead in the booth and just walked by ... 😮💨... monsters! They deserve to get eaten.
@@mleise8292 Lost brother... Also quick side note: after finding Ricardo's corpse (sniffle), the xenomorph will always appear in the left room facing down the steps. Don't know why it took me 10 playthroughs to figure that shit out Have a good day
I just finished the game today for the first time. Took me about 25 hours on hard mode. It was worth it. Quite a challenge. I didn't mind the length, I don't like short single player experiences. It's a great game that nails the atmosphere of the Alien universe. When the alien was around I was always on my toes, hiding, trying to avoid it. It was quite a thrill ride. And yeah, that galleria section was not really fun. I got lost. Actually a few times I did search for answers online. All and all, this feels the best thing that happened for the franchise since Aliens in 1986!
I'm still pissed that IGN gave Alien Isolation a 6/10. It deserves like, an 8/10 or 9/10 because of the game's quality. I always feel squeamish when gameplay of Alien Isolation was showcased, let alone the Xenomorph's sounds and claustrophobic atmosphere. This game proved that even an adaption of Alien for those with affection towards survival horror, mimic the same iconic tagline of the first movie: "In space, no one will hear you scream."
Giving this kind of AI to the Sa-X in metroid fusion..... The original always had me on edge but to give it this kind of upgrade.... The horror....I love this idea XD
I remember I used the firethrower a couple of times until it was empty in a larger area (don't rembember exactly which one, but it was during the endgame) and the Alien ran away. The Alien came back and I pointed at it, even it was empty. The Alien ran away because it could'nt know it was empty. So I survived the enconter. That's one of the best memories I have playing a video game. Awesome video by the way: :)
Recently finished my first playthrough on hard and loved it. It's not perfect (encountered some audio bugs, just had to reload save), but I adore the series, and this game was incredible. The detail in every environment was awesome and truly felt like it was part of the Alien universe. I've also never been so scared playing a game. The Alien always surprised me and I never got used to being killed by it. My fiance can attest that I screamed a couple times lol. I didn't expect it, but this game entered my GOAT list. I love that it exists.
Masterpiece game!! Very underrated, my favorite game of 2014, the atmosphere of the game was incredible, Sevastopol Station felt like a real lived in place, while the AI of the Xeno felt like an actual living thing 😃👏👏👏

fantastic review. What this review has, that most lack, is balance. It looks not only at the good and bad, but it represents the games objectives by proportionately discussing the elements of the game; unlike somone who would rant about the story for like half the review. Also Im happy you discussed resource management and the crafting system, people forget how much it adds to a game (example being bioshock and pretty much any immersive sim). I feel like resource management can make mundane tasks interesting, like imagine chopping a cucumber but instead you had to pay for the cucumber (coming at the expense of a carrot for an example). The act of choppung isnt deep, but the resource management is what gives it meaning.
One of my favorite games of all time. Beat it 4 times and the Xenomorph had my heart racing every time. I probably spent more time hiding than playing cuz I’m nervous to make a move. That first person view has you so engaged especially when he’s behind you and you don’t know. I remember the 1st time I played how happy/relieved I was when I made it past a certain part and you can walk around freely for a period, to only go down to the nest and was like nooooo!
At 54 years old, I've been gaming since the dawn of video games. No other game comes close to the perfection of this masterpiece. They nailed it, from sound to graphics to AI. Some complain about length. I personally can't stand short campaigns. I didn't want it to end. I've played through 5 times since 2017 on nothing less than Hard, which I recommend. I have every trophy. Then there's the DLC's , which are outstanding. Survivor modes are the real test. Good luck making the leaderboards. It's unfortunate they haven't made a sequel but maybe in the near future we'll see one. Until then, stay frosty.
I just finished Alien Isolation for the 2nd time - this time on hard difficultly level. This game is really something else. Nothing else out there like it. Horrifically terrifying and creates so much tension it just does not seem real.
I never understood why the long playtime is considered a weakness. Is it from people that play it in one sitting? I play 2 hours at most a day. Finish it in maybe two weeks. Then start again soon after because it's a masterpiece. If it had 200 hours, I wouldn't mind....even better. Pepperidge farmer remembers a time when SHORT play times were considered a problem...weird
The issue is not the playtime itself, it is the fact that some parts towards the end add no value to the game and just is dragging it out. You know how people complain about copy-paste side missions that adds nothing to the game in open world games? Same thing here.
Alien Isolation is simply incredible. I think I'll never uninstall... It would be a great stealth horror game on its own, but this great game also featuring the original monster of monsters... I love it so much. I don't really get how people are stomping all over Colonial Marines. Sure, botched development and release, but there is a LOT of love for the franchise, especially the second movie, in the game with details you only appreciate if you've seen the movie over and over... Pro tip: use the overhaul mod. Don't play vanilla... :D
I once somehow skipped the big Alien reveal cutscene and the alien stalked me relentlessly until eventually it lept at me ... triggering the cutscene segment and clipping me safely out into space. Safe, but stuck for all eternity... A truly horrifying end.
I'm just now playing this game for the first time. Truly excellent survival horror. Best Alien game I've ever played. Some flaws, but it's on par with Resident Evil 7, and others. Top tier in it's genre.
Played this game for the first time last year and I still think about the experience I had with it. Being isolated in real life due to the pandemic and feeling isolated in the game was a double whammy.
This is the only game that has nearly perfected a survival horror experience. I used to watch the old alien movies decades ago and this is the only game based on the alien movies that made me feel like that I’m the character in fact the more I spent time playing it I would often forget there ever was a character in the game. The details in this game is just flawless especially the atmosphere which really looks and feels like you’re in an alien movie. Its one of the main reasons I come back to replay it again. The downside’s to this game however are the character animations and a bit of character dialogues and thats just about it. I would love to see a jurrasic worlds claire character within a game like this.
Have you listened to any of the audio drama's? I think they would be really good material to use for a game in the style of Isolation. There is a trilogy and the first two are set between Alien and Aliens. The first is called Out Of The Shadows and has Ripley in it. Her shuttle which she uses to escape the Nostromo is picked up by a ship and she is woke up. I won't spoil the plot but it's really good. The second is River Of Pain and it's set on Hadleys Hope before Ripley and the Marines arrive. It gives a really detailed account of what happened. The third is Sea Of Sorrows and features one of Ripleys descendants who has some sort of telepathic link to the Xenomorphs. There is also an audio drama of Alien 3 where the story is very different to the films. Lance Henriksen and Michael Biehn reprise their roles as Bishop and Hicks. The best part, they are all on youtube so you can listen to them for free!
@@BoulderPunch I'd highly recommend them to any fans of the franchise. Unfortunately, Sigourney doesn't reprise the role of Ripley but a woman called Laurel Lefkow does a great job, she even sounds like Sigourney in certain parts. Stockard Channing is in one of them and she has a perfect voice for audio drama's. I love discussing them but its hard to without spoiling anything lol. You do need to invest quite a bit of time as some of them are 5+ hours long.
I just started another play-through and, just like on my first one, I spent way too much time just walking around the Torrens and looking at all the little details. They got so many of those little things right and you can definitely tell that at least some of the team must be pretty obsessed with the design and look of the original film. However: That should not distract from the fact the the sound design plays at least as much of a role in the game's success in world-building (and tension, for that matter). Hearing all the iconic effects from the films (and I think some new ones that blend in perfectly) immediately makes you feel "at home". And then there's all the sounds the alien makes when it's walking around or searching for the player. My one and only complete play-through was in 2015 and I still tense up a bit when I hear the alien exit a vent and do its "I'm going to hunt for some food now" growl while I'm watching a YT-let's play today.
This game actually got me into watching every Alien movie, I really had a blast experiencing this classic franchise as a whole even though the plot got worse with every single movie (but all were still very anjoyable for me). I haven't watched Alien: Covenant yet but it seems to somewhat recreate the first Alien movie but worse?
Now that Metroid Dread is officially a thing again, and based the name Dread and Metroid's connection to the Alien franchise as inspiration, I really hope Mercury Steam and Nintendo implement some of the alien AI into the E.M.M.I enemies or some other potential enemies in the game. Probably not, but it would be cool.
I fookin love this game m8. Creative Assembly is the first developer I know of that actually understood what made the alien so scary. I don’t really care what Fox says, this game and the first alien movie are the only pieces of alien media that I consider canon 😂
I've had this game sitting on a shelf for the past 5 years or so. Bought it on sale and kind of forgot about it. I played to the first save point in the game (while you're still on the Torrence) and promptly deleted my memory of playing the game or even owning it. Playing through it now and being a huge fan of the original I am almost to terrified to explore the set pieces which I really want to do. I'm playing on Hard right now but I think I'll play through it again on Easy just so I can explore the entirety of the game design. It would be a shame for me to not explore the nooks and crannies of a love project like this and it absolutely blows me away that this game came out near seven years ago. It looks really good for its age and looks better than even some newer AAA releases. I haven't gotten to the dragging parts yet but I'll let you know when I stop jamming Amanda into every locker I come across because I thought I heard something.
i think its amazing seeing prople come back and reflect on this absolute banger of a game this is. i think its one of thr vest games ive ever played and i dont only say tgat because im a little alien fanboy, i dont wanna sound harsh or mean but i seriously think this game did something a lot of otger games didnt achieve or even get near to, and its BEEN a while. we write 2021 and there hasnt been a game ive played that gave me an experience like alien isolation did. iam really upset i watched the lets play before i got to play it because i would've loved to have played that game blind, the game (and not only graphically in my opinion) achieved something so incredibly, just wow. wow it raised the bar to nearly unreachable in horror games for me personally. eberything about it is just perfect in my book.
I swear I didn't know much about the game or the lore besides the game recieving good reviews and the interesting cover of Amanda Ripley and the Alien in the reflection, but I still got the game. Best decision I've ever made.
I love this game. It’s futuristic from the unique interior designs yet reminiscent of the 80s still using old school computers. A great survival game with enough enemy variety to be fun, very unique mechanics, insane details and sounds the devs took very seriously to recreate, and a nice bridge between the first 2 movies. They were some great moments like Waits ejecting the Alien with Ripley still in the station module, Samuels the MVP beating up synthetics and sacrificing himself, destroying Sevastopol, and the rest of the game with exploring the Alien nest and the reactor core having to avoid synthetics. They were also some cool little things like Ripley’s Sr message to Ripley Jr and the fact that there really was an Alien queen on the station but the devs wanted to stick to the stealth and not include a big alien fight
The first time I played Alien Isolation, I immediately wanted Creative Assembly to do the next game in the Thief series. The engine, the slow, deliberate pacing, the emphasis on environmental cues, its absolutely perfect for a new Thief game. I know we have The Dark Mod for those of us who want to continue playing and the community has been epic in its enthusiasm and support with some extremely good maps coming out, but the Doom 3 engine is showing its age and the AI just isn't as polished as something you'd get from a fully funded team of devs.
just finished dead space 1 and it was a masterpiece, became one of my all-time fav games. really looking forward to this game. I hope it can deliver similar atmosphere.
This game should have been cut by maybe 20% in length and I would have loved it, the last couple of hours I was just slogging through to get to the finish, but overall it was a very memorable experience.
I am finally getting to play Isolation and I am just blown away with it. The original Alien is one of my all time favorite films and seeing its art style and atmosphere is so spot on that I can't help but fangirl while being scared. Only problem I have so far is the people who are supposed to hunt you down after you grab the tuner glitched and they didn't move or even see me. It was really weird.
This is my favourite game by a long way. I am down to about 5 hours to complete, (completed it, mate) obviously that's using speed runner strats from runners who can finish it in under 3 hours. The first play through was the best though, about 14 or 15 hours, 50% of that time hiding in lockers. This game is amazing, I do a play through twice a month.
Masterpiece of a game that brought back the bone-chilling terror of the original movie. The save system is so tension filling. I swear that I was so scared I had to pause and get a bourbon to get the nerves down before resuming, or chicken out till the next day to continue. Fun times!
It really works in VR for me - honestly I haven't played the game on a monitor since the release and I'm not sure I could now. I'm doing yet _another_ playthrough now with mothervr and it can't be beaten imo. Not by Half Life Alyx, not by Lone Echo etc, good as they are. It's not even a dedicated VR game either.... Just wonderful.
This game might just be the scariest game I've ever played. Certainly the most panic inducing! It's the only game to give me, not one, but two nightmares about the Xenomorph! This coming from a guy who's played plenty of terrifying survival horror up to this point. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Evil Within, Dead Space, Amnesia...etc. While those games do feature stalker type enemies, I think this is probably the game that made me feel like I was "actively" being hunted. Not just for a period, either, but for most of the game. While there are some chapters where the Xenomorph isn't present, there are many where it is, and when it is around...you are in nonstop danger! It's not as simple as just hiding till it goes away. It WILL find you, forcing you to try to get by it throughout the game. It's AI design really makes it feel like this thing is alive and tracking you relentlessly! Couple that with the unnerving, and VERY immersing, Sevastopol Station and you have a recipe for unyielding tension! Even when the Xenomorph isn't around, you still have the Worker Joes to contend with, and those things are plenty terrifying by themselves! Plus, there are no save rooms, and even attempting to save your game could be a death sentence! The thing about Alien Isolation is that even when you think you might be in a safe space, you're most likely not!
To be honest, at first I ignored Alien Isolation, because the Alien franchise had alot of "okay" games before it and the fact that Colonial Marines was such a big dissappointment. Luckily one of my friends bought the game and we played through it about 70-80% (taking turns whenever somebody died). When I got back home, I bought the game instantly and completed it in 3 days. I was baffled by how amazing the game was and how it nailed the aesthetics of the first movie 100%. When my friends visited me a few weeks after, we watched the first two Alien movies together (I already knew them, but they didnt) and they loved them. This game alone somehow ignited my love for the franchise. There are rumors that Isolation 2 is in development. So far they havent been debunked, so lets be hopeful they turn out true.
Repeatedly, I tell people and make comments here on youtube suggesting that this is easily amongst the three greatest games I've ever played. I can't tell if I like this game or the 1st Bioshock the best of all. It's between those two. The other game that makes up my all-time top 3 is Goldeneye.
I'd say my favorite bit about the game, is the sound design. The alien's hiss, it's loud foot thump's as it walk's through the station. The music at certain point's, point's at which either Amanda get's a moment of peace followed by the game's great graphic's even for today's standard's, the music is kind, peaceful and calm, the kind you'd hear in something similar to a yoga class. Then come the point's of extreme stress, the music during the alien's arrival in the medical bay, is perfect IMO. Another bit of the game that's my favorite, is how you can LEAD the alien to certain thing's, IMO the best of the alien actually doing alien thing's being in the san cristobal med bay. And I do agree how some section's drag the hell on, for way too long. My only other problem with the game (or atleast my version of it) is that the alien's inspect animation when hiding in a locker/cabinet, glitches, and even after the alien leaves, I still have to hold my breath and lean back.
You are absolutely correct that Isolation is a near-classic. Its so close but pacing issues really harm it (and I've played it through multiple times on Nightmare mode). 1. It takes slightly too long for the main game to start. 2. There is too much of "moving the goal posts". You'll get an objective, you'll get there, find you need to do some switches, then you'll do the task, then just as you're about to complete the objective, the power will cut out. That's fine for a horror game but it happens just one too many times. 3. Similarly, there are objectives which are just padding. There's one section which is especially egregious (toward the end of the game, you need a hacking tool upgrade and its literally round the corner). 4. There are whole sections which could be skipped and it would improve the game (especially the androids section which is just frustrating and not fun which lasts too long). If this game was remastered, with sections heavy edited, it would be a perfect game because the parts which work are excellent.
I've just discovered this game a week ago ( it's on steam and ps store sale) and absolutely love it. It's also pretty challenging on nightmare difficulty. This thing hears every move I make, I swear...
Oh, it's a classic. For all the games that have come since, there's been nothing like this. Flaws and all, the quality of design shines through such that those aren't enough to deprive it of that honor.
I just rewatched the movies and in my alien bubble checked if there was a game on them. This review got me really hyped and I am downloading it to my switch right now. Thanks for the great review. I be in my cryotube till the download is complete
I love how everyone in the game dies for nothing. Everyone dies randomly, achieving nothing, except Samuels who sacrificed himself... and achieved nothing with it.
I don't understand your complaint. Are you familiar with the franchise at all? How many survivors, on average, do you know the movies have? Main cast, or otherwise? Seems like such a strange gripe to have...
25:05 That part I was fine with. With that setup they eventually had to come alive and you have to think about how to terrify the player without overwhelming them. A single android can be dealt with. Then you know for sure that these can activate and even the last player will get it that they might have to run for the door. On the other hand if you wanted to go for the green door anyways, now you are faced with an android that could block your path if you don't hurry with potentially many more behind you. I imagine they settled on this script after some playtesting. It's still a bit of a challenge in speedrunning to stay in the room to kill the android with the keycard.
