I always found it so weird how he acted one way with me, a different way with his parents, a different way again with his extended family, and different again with work etc. Like multiple different people. And he definitely didn't ever want to be honest or vulnerable

Most think just two separate lives, but it’s many more. Box for kids, box for work, box for flying monkeys, box for family, box for mistress, box for wife. Complete segregation of a hopeless narcs existence.

I have to compartmentalise because otherwise I end up doing not much of anything. Compartmentalisation allows me to manage strong emotions that stop me from doing what's necessary. It's not about other people, it's about me myself and my ability to work.

After the last and definite discard they put your box away in the attic and rarely revisit. Metaphorically speaking. Sometimes literary speaking too: I once returned to a narc's place right before discard and asked - where’s that lovely personalised gift I gave you? Reply: in a box in the attic. 😂

It reminds me of the kids game peekaboo. If i just stand here and pretend noone sees me, (not feeling sad) no one will see me. (Aka the sadness is not there) I will just put my grieve in a box so I dont feel it so its not there! Wow. Great explanation. The sick thing is when we just started dating he showed me a youtube clip of the difference between a man and a womans mind: they actually used the analogy of containers. With men there’s no connection between the containers giving the explanation men cant multitask they box. And as I know peopke with adhd do this too and he had it I thought ahhh so sweet he just is a guy and cant do Otherwise! Until I found out about narcissism…. And his many many cheating….
