BENGALS!! Rocket the Snow Bengal joins us at 'Bengal Heights' :)

Rocket is a spotted Seal Lynx Point, blue eyes) and joins us after a long journey from Springmeadow Bengals. Over the course of the first week you can see the move from initial trepidation to care-free jumping at the feathered rod.
At this point there had been only brief contact with our two existing Bengal girls, Pixel & Sushi, mostly by scent. We slowly introduced all three cats and used a scent diffuser to help calm any nerves and hoped that after a couple of weeks things would be fine. It was touch and go for a while but after around 6 weeks we felt that things were going to be OK. Phew!

Thank you, glad you have enjoyed the videos! Hopefully they've given you some ideas too although if your Bengals are very young they will enjoy anything! If nothing else, we had lots of fun making things out of cardboard boxes, cutting holes out of them for little paws and things like that :) We never had any cable biters thankfully but just something to be mindful of as they can be quite inquisitive and mischievous. I'm sure you'll have a great time with them!

@@HotRocketBengalCats is their coloring on their skin like some breeds or just their fur? This vid is now 4 years old so how is he doing. Any health issues? Where do Bengals oeiginate. I think my cat, Blackie, was part Egyptian Mau, because of his belly flap. They are decended from African wild hunting cats. He always had a mouse or bird when he came in the house. Once even a giant rat. Thankfully it was dead. I rescued a lot of birds from him.

@HotRocketBengalCats
@HotRocketBengalCats 5 лет назад
Hi there! We introduced the harness to Rocket at 5 months old but we only used it a few times as we don't go out very often anymore. They sometimes take 15 minutes to get used to it again, there's a little bit of drunken walking but soon enough they get back into it :)
@wideeyewonder
@wideeyewonder 5 лет назад
@@HotRocketBengalCats thank you for the info :) One more question I hoped you would be kind enough to address: My previous cat (non-Bengal) was a female and had an awesome temperament even as a kitten. Midas is a male and I've noticed as he gets older (about 4 mos.) he can occasionally get feisty without provocation. My thought is his little hormones are starting to fire up and it's as if he's trying to challenge and see how much he can get away with. Did you find after neutering that Rocket's temperament changed or is this just another aspect of a Bengal's nature to adjust to? Thank you!
@HotRocketBengalCats
@HotRocketBengalCats 5 лет назад
We never noticed this with any of the cats at that stage of life however in the past year one of girls (Sushi, the smallest!) has started to fall out with Rocket, for no apparent reason and they are often fighting. Rocket tends to avoid the conflict but she can't leave him alone. None of them have taken it out on us however. It could just be his hormones as you say, see what happens after neutering around the 6 month mark. One thing to be watchful for is whether he is suffering from something as he might not want to be touched if he's in pain or something similar. I don't mean to worry you, it's probably fine but I have heard of this before. When you say he is challenging, do you mean with humans or with the female non-Bengal?
@wideeyewonder
@wideeyewonder 5 лет назад
@@HotRocketBengalCats thanks for the response :) To clarify, Midas is the only cat and the previous female cat was mentioned just as a reference. Midas is generally awesome, it's just when he's been playful and we've tried to pet him or pick him up he has occasionally attempted to lash out, not to the degree were he's hissing or anything like that but maybe would attempt to lightly bite or scratch. We've learned to gauge his body language better and when he's fired up from playing try to give him some time to wind down before attempting to hold or pet. He is a little tough guy and we just love his hunched back, puffy tail playful walk we call "The Matador" :) He's really a joy in all respects and as a previous non-Bengal cat owner I would tell anyone interested in a Bengal that they can be a handful, but in a good way. Midas's speed and agility are something else and the way he tears around and attempts to climb nearly anything is beyond fun to watch, not to mention his talkative nature to let us know "I'm here and it's time to play some more already"! Best to you and Rocket and other Bengals!

+Luna Charles Yes he's OK now although he does fall out with Sushi and they cause each other grief! It took a good two months and I used some of the Feliway spray to help calm the atmosphere. I must admit I wondered whether I had done the right thing to start with but I really didn't want to even consider returning him. A year later and they are often on the same bed together :)

We own 3 cats in our house. The calico belongs to my grandmother and she has a bit of an attitude. My cat is a tuxedo cat and he's just a cuddle bug unless he's outside. Then there's my sister's cat who we got a year ago; he's a yellow cat, I'm not sure what his breed is unfortunately..

We have a snow Leopard. He is now 4. He is loud and finding these videos has helped me realize that he isn't odd or "drain bramaged". He WILL NOT let us sleep! This is my ONLY complaint. We have tried walking, playing, feeding, not feeding, begging, pleading, singing, talking, dark rooms, light rooms, just everything except drugs. He is 4 years old (we got him at 14 weeks). He is neutered. Yearly vet visits. Always used the same litter and food. Strictly indoors with walks (dragging) when the weather permits. Can you suggest anything you may have discovered that would help? Your babies are magnificent! I really enjoy your videos and have followed you on Twitter!
@HotRocketBengalCats
@HotRocketBengalCats 8 лет назад
+Wafflez Shanaham Hi there, sorry been away for a few days. You certainly have a handful there! Rocket has been more active than our two browns but similar to them he has calmed down (a little) as they did at around 15-18 months. We aren't quite at the stage where he can free roam upstairs at night as he just wants to play. However what we do is keep all 3 downstairs at night so that they have two large rooms to roam with a small amount of light. They do play between 11-1am but apart from that they just seem to get it and go to sleep all night. If we are nearby or walking in corridors outside then they will be vocal but it seems to be that if we are out of sight we are out of mind and they quieten down. Your snow doesn't seem to like doing that! If you hadn't said what you had tried then I would have thought he was getting enough play time but it's obviously not that. Could it be companionship? It was expensive but I knew from the start that I didn't want to have just one cat home alone as I feared it would be unhappy. Seeing them play together makes me think that they get enough interaction to settle down when it's time to. You could try changing the food slowly, just in-case there is something in it that might make him more wired than he should be. Other than that it's difficult to know what to suggest.. do you know what F number he is? Just wondering whether he is close to the first generations or not.
@wafflezshanaham6330

+Hot Rocket Bengal Cats wow thank you for responding. Yeti is an F3... we think. The breeder wasn't too forthcoming about certain facts. We got him at 14 weeks. I agree he could use a small companion, however having a second pet in a rental is always a challenge. He has had "friends" come and go and seems to do well with other cats, but not so good around dogs. Of my better half and I someone is Always home with him so separation anxiety isn't a big issue. If we do go out for the day we try not to stay away for more than a few hours. I have been chasing him more and playing hide and seek which he seems to love. I am getting more ideas from your videos and I am saving for an exercise wheel... I'll keep watching..thank you again!
@HotRocketBengalCats
@HotRocketBengalCats 8 лет назад
+Wafflez Shanaham I did wonder if you were going to say F3 or similar, not that it necessarily means that he is going to be a handful, just more likely. I'm surprised about the lack of clarity from the breeder as normally you would promote that sort of thing and supply the family tree, since it's also quite a small tree, if he's F3! I hope that you weren't taken advantage of. Funny that you mention the chasing because thats exactly what I've been doing recently and rocket loves it. I tear around the hallways, up the stairs and then hide in a random bedroom. He creeps by, not knowing which one I'm going to pounce from :) It's great that you are often around him giving him attention as with the best of intentions sometimes daily duties get in the way and it's not always possible to be there with the toys and the attention. Yeti is a brilliant name by the way! The last F3 I saw was a Savannah called Brutus.. HUGE, but quite placid!
@wafflezshanaham6330
@wafflezshanaham6330 8 лет назад
+Hot Rocket Bengal Cats Thanks again for responding. We picked the name because he was white and from the Himalayas. The breeder had him as the last of a litter. Someone took him and brought him back. I think his father was brown and his mother was snow. I finally gave in and got him a little something to help him sleep. I also talked with my SO about an exercise wheel and we found one we hope to get next month. Today Yeti entertained himself with a piece of wrapper for a good 15 minutes. I read that cats actually need to nap in order to rest up for sleep. Have you ever heard this? Do your cats eat treats, cheese, milk, bacon... anything other than their food? I know we are not supposed to feed pets people food and I don't, but if he only liked treats or something I could use that to train him. we also have had a lot of rain lately so taking him on walks is out of the question. He hates the car unless we play classical music and he is not fond of water. I plan to post a video or two of his vocals and antics. I will let you know when I do... By the way, we also call him P.I.T.A.- pain in the arse!
@HotRocketBengalCats
@HotRocketBengalCats 8 лет назад
+Wafflez Shanaham Regarding sleeping I think that's pretty much it - they need to nap a lot and then have short but deep sleeps (not usually at night apparently). The only treats we give them are cosmo dried chicken pieces, some cooked meats. Pixel really likes poppadoms for some reason :) Apart from Rocket, who tries to eat everything, they don't usually go for much else, even nice tuna! I did look at a raw food diet in detail but in the end I was nervous about doing it and keeping it up so I try to get some of the decent european wet foods like Granatapet, Grau and Om Nom Nom. I love the fact that playing classical music calms him down! Ours usually vacate when music is on so I might have to try some classical and see what happens.. It's not surprising given what I listen to sometimes - it must sound all over the place hehe

+Jennifer Pugliese Hiya, yes I find them easier and because they give a little it doesn't hurt your knees so much when you inevitably bash your legs. Rocket is heavy so it makes all the difference! +Jennifer Pugliese They're quite generic to be honest and I just searched for foldable carry case (might have been on eBay..). Oh no here it is: www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=772&pf_id=57961&gclid=CN_xgIi01MsCFUEaGwod4wEGNQ I think I went for the medium size which fits our two smaller brown girls nicely together. I believe generally kitties like to be snug so perhaps the smaller crate would be fine to start with. Hope that helps!
@jenniferpugliese5744
@jenniferpugliese5744 8 лет назад
+Hot Rocket Bengal Cats hi. thx for the reply. so u put both ur brown girls in one carrier? in the medium? so a small would be fine for 1 kitty? my story is actually very sad, n just recently happened. I had a brown boy that I bought from a wonderful breeder when he was 3 months old. to make a very long story short... he must've had inner ear disease that went undiagnosed for 7 months. when he started shaking his head n developing neurological symptoms, I then knew something was wrong. he first started out with ear drops for a month. then the other Dr at my vets office diagnosed him with inner ear infections in both ears with a ruptured ear drum. he was on oral antibiotics for 2.5 months. unfortunately, in a matter of a week n a half, he lost almost 2 pounds n rapidly declined. so I had to make the hard decision when he was only 14 months old to have him cross the rainbow bridge. we believe the infection went to his brain. he was my best friend. my soulmate. I'm a single mom of a 15 yr old boy, but my relationship w my brown Bengal was so unconditional n therapeutic for me since I am disabled. Griff, my bengal, crossed the bridge on Feb 13th. so I'm still grieving. my breeder is so amazing, he's giving me another kitten since it fell under the health guarantee, plus, we kept in touch thru the entire time I had Griff. so...I'm looking to get a different carrier, one that I think a new Bengal might like 😉 Griff was a brown boy, n one of his queens just had a litter the beginning of march, with 5 total. 2 silver boys, one brown girl n 2 silver girls. so I'm hoping one of the silver boys is going to be a perfect fit for me. sorry for such the long response, but wanted u to know why I've had so many questions lately, plus I enjoy watching ur videos. PS, u need to make more new ones 😉😁
