I was looking for a heater for my off-grid cabin, and I bought a stove but wanted something different, and I think this is the way I'm going. Thanks for the video,
I just ordered a heater like this for back up heat. We are in rv til we build. After the Texas freeze in 21 we wanted to be prepared for power failure. Couldn’t get the larger size in time so we just bought the small mr buddy. So glad!!! Our power went out last night for several hours and the little one made a big difference with the rvs backup battery running the furnace.
I was thinking the same thing. "Two is one, and one is none." I have a stove, a toaster oven, a microwave, and an oven all in the kitchen. I also have a two-burner Coleman propane stove, two of the little MAPP gas stoves, and three or four penny alcohol stoves. If I didn't live in a condo, I'd also have a grill. The fire department will levy a $1000 fine for anyone caught with one in here, though. Fifteen years ago or so, someone almost burned down one of the buildings because they were an idiot with a grill. Now nobody can have one. But my point is, I can cook for a while even if the power goes out and I run out of MAPP gas. And propane. And if need be, I can use the Coleman stove or a coffee can to burn twigs and paper to heat food. And that's just cooking. Two is one, one is none. But SIX is still five.
I just saw this heater today at a local big box store; going to install up in my Northwest Ontario cabin next year. I see they make a thermostat controlled blower motor for this unit as well; I'll be adding that! Thanks for letting me know this heater works well!
Just did the same thing in my 600sq ft log cabin. The difference between the blue flame and radiant is night and day. This heat is similar to my wood stove it will make a good supplement heat source for when I’m gone.
Glad to see the new heater, I love the infared/radiant heaters here at home....any sighting of Pumpkin/Creamer this weekend? If they're staying for good up at the neighbors, would be nice if you guys could do a short video so were could see them more.
@@StBernardAcres Thanks, its like WC Fields said dont work with kids or animals, they steal the scene LOL we come for the cats as much as the cabin and gas station^^ we're hoping you'll catch up to the amount of cats Ed has in New York....
so where are you exactly so I can comparison weather wise I'm on Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada. my climate in the winter can be very damp at times to snow and -10 to 15 at night also, how well was the fan and how big is the room you're heating? I'm thinking of heating a big horn trailer with pop outs
ugh, unvented. Propane combustion produces a lot of water ( C3H8 +5O2 = 3CO2 + 4H2O ). The exact same amount of water is produced regardless of the details of the type of device used to cause the combustion. Hopefully you won't need to use it enough for the moisture to cause mold or mildew issues down the road. For a similarly sized small (12,000 btu/hr) propane heater, I recommend the Dickinson Newport P12000. It is vented and has sealed combustion. Air for combustion comes down the double-walled stack, so oxygen in the room is not depleted, and the CO2 and H2O are vented. A very safe and dry system and it has a visible flame for cozy ambiance. Given your location, a small woodburner makes good sense, and is what I would use if I were spending much time there. For weekend use, the convenience of propane is hard to beat, though.
I’m really thinking about a blue flame natural gas heater as a power free back up to my home furnace. I live in Denver so we are a mile high. All of them have an elevation limit just under that. Soooo I am going to have to get it from Amazon so if it doesn’t work for me I can easily return it 😆. You made a statement that it was better than the blue flame. Did you have a blue flame previously? I’d like to know because I haven’t made up my mind which option to go with. Love the look of your cabin by the way. I’m new to the channel so I’m not familiar with all your set up yet.
+IcePike Thanks. I had the blue flame version that I replaced. The floor of the cabin, and the area below the heater was always colder as the combustion one heats the air which rises. I’m hoping since this one heats the objects instead, it may be better in my situation. I will post an update if it works.
@@StBernardAcres yes, do post an update, I’m really torn as which to get. I mean it’s just a back up hopefully I never have to use it, but I just don’t know 😆🤣😆
Interesting video!! Thanks for sharing. Did you have a problem with humidity from the blue-flame heater? I had a Mr. Buddy in my cabin in Alaska last summer, and the by-product of burning propane is CO2 and water. It got so bad that I had to buy a dehumidifer and was taking 3.5-5 gallons of water of out there every day!! Please do an update in a couple of weeks and let us know how that infrared heater does with humidity. I enjoy your channel. If you get a chance, check out mine (The Lone Moose). Merry Christmas!! Bill
Instead of spending $5,000 on stones for his driveway Hoardernurse1 should have invested $180.00 in a Dyna Glo heater to stay warm, But then again maybe he couldn't find anyone to install it for him.........3 Eggs 🥚🥚🥚🥚
