A new hobby 

The book is called "Guide to Gemstone Settings" and is available from Cooksongold here in the UK, which is also where I purchase my raw materials and some of my tools.
Another supplier I've found is called Kernowcraft, also based in the UK. They are more setup for the budding hobbyist, though they do also stock raw materials.
