interesting that the seating cars are low level, sleeping and couchette cars not .. might there be one wheel chair accessible sleeping compartment in the first seating car? (the window spacing is strange there)
Seating accommodation is low floor for easy boarding. Sleepers and especially Couchettes you need access to the berth so a low level access is less essential. Most UIC stock now has accessible sleeping cars for passengers of reduced mobility. Since sleepers and couchettes always have to be prebooked you cannot just jump on it is not discriminatory to anyone
Given that where I live in the USA, Amtrak is ordering a big fleet of what are essentially RailJet sets for their intercity trains, I can definitely see them taking a keen interest in something like this for their long distance overnight trains. Obviously, a few cars would have to be made into dining cars and observation cars as per their current trains, since that's one of the highlights of Amtrak long distance services, but given how popular Siemen's stuff seems to be at the moment, I definitely see a possibility that this could be making its presence known in the U.S. in the not too distant future... Only time will tell though.
The US would ban these from Amtrak. As they are built in Maribor, Slovenija 🇸🇮 they wouldn't be imported under US trade block restrictions. The new Siemens coaches in the Mid West are bespoke to the US and built there.
@@nixcails Precisely my point, actually. Amtrak would still take an interest in the design, but importing the sets wouldn't have been considered anyway due to Buy America laws for American transit agencies, which mean that the cars would be built at Siemens American factory in Florin, California, as they have with everything else Siemens has ever built for the US market. It's something that European manufacturers have been doing for years now, from Alstom to Stadler. Plus, they'd need to have slight modifications to make them compatible with American crash standards (as much as those crash standards are flawed if you ask me), so direct imports would never work in any case, so building them here is what they would do.
@@SteveGettingAroundPhilly but it's the cabotage laws against free trade that keep US rail in the stone age despite having a UIC loading gauge on most lines.
@@SteveGettingAroundPhilly The Siemens Venture cars for Amtrak surely look different from the viaggio Next Level the ÖBB are getting. Though I have so far heard quite positive feedback about Siemens trains in the US. Same could not be said about Alstom, though 😅 The Siemens venture cars however seem to be quite popular recently in North America. Which makes sense since they found a concept that just fits perfectly to the American market along with the locomotives. I would claim that these venture cars are derived from the viaggio Comfort (both have similar appearance inside) which were originally developed to accommodate the 230 km/h fast Taurus locomotives which ÖBB got a bit too many of. They are married pairs with cab cars that - as you may have guessed - have a top speed of 230 km/h. While you won‘t see a Diesel hauled Railjet in regular service, you will find the need to have this modus since there are several different power systems in Europe and it is a bit more convenient if the power unit that has to be capable of utilizing all necessary power systems (e.g. 3kV, 15kV, 25kV…) is actually seperated within a locomotive that you can switch at will. Also you could put the locomotive in front of the cab car if the latter won‘t work or isn‘t approved which also adds a layer of flexibility making sure that even without a working cabcar you can still run the train. I found out that the US aren‘t much different in regarding power systems, despite the latter being one nation. The difference is of course, the vast majority of railway in the US runs on Diesel trains over non-electrified tracks so it wouldn‘t be so apparent. Just look at openrailwaymap.org for reference on the power systems. You will see, what I mean 😉 Also thanks for your interest. I am kinda surprised that I would be getting so many subscribers and views for just posting videos then and now 😅
Their maximum speed is 230kmh but I believe they could travel very rarely at 200kmh or more since they usually use normal lines. They could go up to 200kmh when in daytime or in the first part of their journey such as from Rome to florence or paris strasbourg or st. Polten wien
I doubt the paris strassbourg part, the french have a strict 17 ton axle load requirement for their high speed lines, which most multi system locs cannot achieve, as well as the fact that the lines close at night for maintenance. But the westbahn in austria and the belgian high speed line from brussels to aachen/cologne are both being used by nightjet already.
Cool, Surely these double windows look like based of Amtraks Vewliners. also that last car looks like it as a Vectron on the back, Is that look like the first push pull sleeper-train?
I love the Nightjet! Hamburg Hbf to Wien in 12 Hours! With a little luck you pay 29,- Euro for a oneway Ticket, in the Reisezentren to became a Sparpreis! Not every day but i have never more 100 Euro payed for Hamburg -Wien and return! Sorry my english is a little bit strange 😅!
Italy is one of the reasons why they ordered these trains as the older ones can‘t run there for much longer in Italy due to changing regulations. However since the nightjets are already being delayed they focused on approval in Austria and Germany first which was easier and as such are starting first operations between Wien/Innsbruck and Hamburg. The original plans however designated Italy already at the end of summer 2023 so I am sure that somewhere in 2024 as soon as possible they will actually go to Italy. At the same time they also plan to put new railjet trains between Munich and Italy somewhere in 2024 as well for day travelling.
it's a night train, dining cars haven't proven to be profitable there since people would mostly spend their journey sleeping or resting anyways... ...or who would want a Chilli Con Carne at 3am? 😂
