Hi Teunis, Thanks for the binge watching and leaving so many comments. Great show last night with Canoehound! I am glad you shared your experience. When an experienced guy like you can have an accident it sends a message to everyone to be very careful. I hope you do another show with him about backcountry first aid, I think that would be really popular. All the best and take care of that foot! I'll reply to your other comments with shorter replies :) Thanks for watching, I am a new sub to your channel!

Noooo, 😀 This should be fine in a track behind my snowshoes. The plastic is very slippery and is expected to slide around in a hard driveway. Thanks! 👍

Glad you're getting back into winter camping. I purchased a LotN toboggan myself this year. That thing sure is slippery compared to the pulks I have used up until now. I'm sure you'll love it. Cheers, - Martin
@KevinOutdoors
@KevinOutdoors 3 года назад
Thanks Martyn, yes I was very happy with how slippery it was. I have been pulling a Canadian Tire kids sled (pulk) for the occasional overnight adventure but it isn't really large enough for winter camping and is prone to tipping. With my wife and son on the toboggan I was close to 200lbs and it pulled very easily up hill. I really like the leather tump strap it is way better than just pulling a rope across my chest.
@PineMartyn
@PineMartyn 3 года назад
@@KevinOutdoors Have you tried hauling in deep snow yet? Not quite as slidey as that compacted driveway, eh?. lol And I know what you mean about kids' sleds being too short. I could fit all of my hot-tenting gear on one pulk, but it had to be piled rather high, making it prone to tipping over on uneven ground and very frustrating when moving across a diagonal slope of any kind. The length of the toboggan means that the center of gravity of the load is lower, which makes a difference, along with the fact that it hugs the uneven terrain, rather than bobbing up and down precariously across uneven ground. Enjoy!
@KevinOutdoors
@KevinOutdoors 3 года назад
@@PineMartyn No I haven't pulled in deep snow yet. I'll be experimenting with it soon. I am sure it won't be as easy. I recently saw someone on fb pulling two of the kids style sleds in tandem. That seems like an interesting idea to flatten out the load but that's still higher friction. I helped a buddy of mine build his own toboggan a few years ago. He had the plastic but needed help with the wood working. He convinced me of the benefits of the long and low profile.

That is a very nice toboggan kit. The hot tenting / winter camping is getting popular these days it seems. I look forward to watching your adventures with this next winter......Take care, Bluefin.

It certainly is taking off with COVID restrictions. The one good thing about COVID is that more people are gravitating to the outdoors. I haven't even bothered to order a tent this year. I will wait for spring then make my order.

Beautiful toboggan, that's going to be sweet. Great setup for soloing in particular. I like the Pelican pulks we have well enough considering they're affordable, durable, require no assembly, and are functional enough, but there's not enough capacity in one if I want to hot tent alone. I know I speak for everyone when I say that I want that damn woodshed.
@KevinOutdoors
@KevinOutdoors 3 года назад
Thanks Jon. Yes, I'll likely get into solo tripping hence the larger sled. LOL, I do have a sweet woodshed :)

Enjoyed the video..... very informative. Will be considering a 8' or 10' LOTN toboggan next winter. Safe travels !
@KevinOutdoors
@KevinOutdoors 3 года назад
Yes, I wasn't sure on the length either so I went for the 10'. I'll use it for a while and figure out my capacity needs. I may get another one for my wife as she will likely join me on rare occasions. After I understand our needs I'll either get an 8' or a 12'. I suspect for solo trips without a hot tent the 8' will be fine. Likewise I think at least 10' will be required for solo hot tent trips.

Nice addition to your gear Kevin, cant wait to watch your winter adventure next year. Lure of the north is a great channel to watch. They have some nice winter adventure. Another one for you Kevin on winter camping and gear is ''Adventures with the marine'' Question for you what is the furnace you lite at beginning? This is not a smoker right?
@KevinOutdoors
@KevinOutdoors 3 года назад
Thanks Roland 👍 I'll check out Adventures with the Marine. The furnace is an 'outdoor wood furnace' the heats our home. The fire heats a water jacket around the fire box and that is connected with a pump, to an insulated line that runs underground to a radiator above our (oil) furnace. We have a separate thermostat that triggers the blower in the furnace and not the oil igniter. I hope that made sense, basically the fire heats water that is pumped to the house which with a fan heats the air in our house. It is great because all the risk of combustion is away from the house.

Looks sweet! What if you put a small wooden or metal “rail” down the centre on the bottom so it tracks in a straight line better?
@KevinOutdoors
@KevinOutdoors 3 года назад
The plastic is very slippery, much lower friction than most kids sleds so in the driveway it slides around quite a bit. I was impressed with the low friction, with my wife and son that's close to 200lbs. In deep snow behind my snowshoes it should track very well.

I’ll have to Google “hot tenting” but I’m looking forward to your future camping. You and yours stay safe. ****question: what is the wood burning furnace for? I mean what does it heat?
@KevinOutdoors
@KevinOutdoors 3 года назад
Good question, that furnace heats my house. It heats water that is pumped to the house. Hot tenting, is the opposite. You have a stove inside a tent :)

I was laughing for the first 2:20 of the video. At first I thought for sure that the egg was going to get smashed in your pocket and then the toboggan came rolling down your driveway. 🤣 If I still lived in the Adirondacks I’d own one of their toboggans but, since I live in the south now, all I’ve ordered from Kie and Dave is a LOTN mug and a buff.
