This is a phenomenal comparison. I'm a TV news reporter (who always worked in front of the camera) . This is storytelling 101-- got straight to the point. And easily digestible. Liked & subscribed.

Thanks for the great comparison! I was evaluating both of these mics before I listened to this and fortunately, I opted for the RODE. I have been beyond happy with it and for my voice, aside from compression and minor tweaks, the default settings are close to what I want. Thanks, again!

I have several Podmics. I love them. I am a bit surprised about the lack of computer/mic mix on the Rode. Having said that, it would nice to have something for the rode that I could plug directly into my laptop without worrying about a separate interface. Great video. BTW, I love the Teles.

The micro USB was a deal breaker for me. Went and purchased 4 rodes for our podcast.

I prefer Micro USB as it does not come out as fast and easy as a USB C.

I love the tests here... somehow the pop-filter on the Rode works better than the Shure's to handle the plosives at least to my ears

Great comparison & video John! I have the Shute MV7 plugged into usb running the motive app and no mater what I do I sound like I’m underwater in my voiceovers. Do you have any tips? I have even tried using the sm7b pop filter but it just makes everything low and muddy.

Great comparison video. Well Done!!! The Rode is a great looking mic but I sold mine because the sound was too thin for me. I’d buy the MV7 but I dislike the huge yoke. My conclusion: I pick my Lewett 240 or my SM57 any day of the week.

Both of those are great budget options if you have an xlr interface already, 👍

A very informative video but still I'm in two minds about it: Rode Podmic or Rode XDM-100?
@denttime
@denttime 5 месяцев назад
I have both. Nobody talks about the podmic usb doesn’t work well plugging straight into an iPhone. The sound is barely heard. The Shure doesn’t have any problems. A versatile mic for on the go. I like the build of Rode but I need the mic to work anywhere and anytime for VO when recording my CapCut shorts on the go. So Shure wins for me.

Interesting. I'm using a Samsung S23 and have no issues recording directly to the phone.

Thanks for your video. I use the Broadcaster Duo and the Pod Mic USB. However, when I put my headphones into the microphone, I don't hear anything, regardless of whether I press the wheel or turn it up very loud. The second thing, which is a bit annoying, is that if you connect via USB, the voice effects, i.e. the FX, can no longer be used . This is only possible via the XLR.
@JohnScottB
@JohnScottB Месяц назад
Sounds like you are connecting the microphone via USB to the USB2 of your Rodecaster Duo, is that correct? The effects and headphone jack monitoring are for when you are plugged in via usb directly to your computer. You don't need those things when using the Rodecaster since you can plug your headphones into that. When using the Rodecaster, there's no benefit to this Podmic USB VS the original Podmic. Hope that helps.

Hi! Which mic do you recommend most? :lct 440 PURE or warm audio wa47jr?
@JohnScottB
@JohnScottB 9 месяцев назад
I've never had the 47jr but I did have the Lewitt and I really liked it. They are both a great value. The Lewitt 440 is a very bright sounding microphone so if thats something you want then maybe lean in that direction.

Does the video address which one is better at (a) rejecting ambient noise, and (b) use for out-of-frame video recording in talking head videos? Thoughts on this aspect would be much appreciated! Obviously they are dynamic mics, but I own the MV7 and it is fine for this. But I need a mic for an alternate site and am wondering if the Podmic USB is as good or better in these regards.
@JohnScottB
@JohnScottB 4 месяца назад
The MV7 is slightly better at rejecting background noise. But neither one would be good if you want to have a microphone out of frame. For that I would look to a small diaphragm condenser mic or an indoor shotgun mic.

Of course. The mic mount is universal so you can mount it to just about any mic stand.

so question...these vs the wave dx...my friend streams in a room where another person is also stream and he tends to be pretty loud calling plays in his games.....would either of these mics make it harder to pick up his voice since he's not that close to it? i'm struggling to find a review where it tests this kind of scenario. Usually its just about other noises like keyboard fans etc but not about other people talking nearby. So i'm not sure which to get as a gift to help mitigate this pain point for my friend.
@JohnScottB
@JohnScottB 2 месяца назад
Neither would block out sound better than the other. I believe those both have a cardioid pickup pattern so performance in that regard would be the same. Best idea would probably be using a headset. The closer the mic is to the subject, the less gain you need and the less ambient noise will be blocked.

Can i get Podmic USB vs getting podmic version 1 and roadcaster duo. My usage is making RU-vid vidoes and podcast style reels and videos. I am so confused. And in both ways I will be recording on PC.
@JohnScottB
@JohnScottB 2 месяца назад
This is pretty straightforward. Do you need more than one microphone? If not, then getting the podmic usb is the easiest entry point to start recording yourself. If you may want to have a second person with their own mic, then the Duo is a nice option. Sound quality will be basically identical. Hope that helps.

How would I mute the Rode Mic during a podcast if I needed to? Would I just need to click on the mic mute button on the PC?
@JohnScottB

Yeah that's right. In whatever app you're using. I use a Stream Deck and have a button setup for muting.

Podmic. I should update this video but a few weeks after posting, the guts of the usb port on the Shure came out with the cable when unplugged. Build quality just isn't as good as the Rode.

@@JohnScottBDang! Shure should wake up and realize how much potential business they’re losing by not updating the MV7 (and I’ll add, MV51) to USB-C connection. They could make a lot of marketing noise about the updates and get back to being top of mind as well.
