Yuuup, your mom is certainly a hard worker and does a whole lot with Jim and their horses !! A great example for you to follow, Abby !! Take care and press on to completion !! I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and it's NOT a train !! 😂
Watching you come back down those stairs, I remembered how they were originally. So glad you reconfigured them. The worst part of the mudding is the sanding, especially the ceiling. Good for you for putting in the work to do the chores you can and save the money for the decorating phase. I'd bet just the wallboard and mudding saved you enough to buy all your appliances. Good decision on the interior doors.
Abby your house is coming along nicely. It is always a joy when your parents are part of your videos. Your family is full of hard workers. The mother daughter duo is always nice to see when your mom comes to work and or visit.
Yes. I tried doing this once and even though I tried to use the least mud as possible there was so much sanding. I had researched that the first pass should be the least amount of mud as possible and then each pass gets wider so you can feather it out. But seams are a pain in the bum and even the small screw holes were showing up after I sanded and primed the wall. It’s so disappointing after all the sanding to see your mistakes pop up. And in the bathroom the darn paint got an air bubble and peeled off the ceiling. I couldn’t figure it out. Not as easy as it looks for sure.
Miss Abby.....I remember you saying how much you like plants....I was thinking about your windows. What about making the sills of the windows out of a slab of marble or quartz???? Then you wouldn't have to worry about putting your potted plants on any of your window sills. I absolutely LOVE all of your door ideas! You have an amazing sense of home decor style!!!!
Take the day off Jay and enjoy yourself, Abby and Brenda have got this! 😂 Love and RESPECT always 🙏💞. I absolutely agree with you and Brenda, after everything you have done you can handle this! 👍
Don't get too excited, You have only just begun. You get to it over again at least two more times and then you have to sand that to a smooth finish. You have not experienced mess until you try cleaning up drywall dust. It'll eat up your vacuum if you are not careful.. Still what you are doing will save you a lot of expense and teach you a lot of skills and a lot about yourself.
You two ladies did an awesome job! Watch out, someone might want to hire you. LOL! I'm 73 years young and I just finished painting the floors in all my rooms in my apartment. A lot of work to move furniture, stoves, refrigerator etc back and forth in order to get everything painted, so I know what it's like to do updating of your living space. The house is so beautiful!
It’s your house so do what YOU want. That is what makes it your HOME. Love your videos. Not looking forward to this ending. It’s going to feel like losing a friend.😊❤
HIRING PEOPLE First thing is some people don't stop to consider the budget, how much money you have. Or they would get a loan that would have to be paid. Security is you are getting trained to do things and getting experience. This will come in so handy when you are living there.
ave you tried sanding any of it yet? That's the obnoxious part so if you can identify anything you want to improve with your mudding to make the sanding easier, the sooner you figure that out the better for the rest of your house. Did Jay tell you that the drywall sheets are made with a thin area along the edges so that you can fill it with tape and mud to build the joint out to the same thickness as the rest of the sheet? Cut sheet joints will be missing that feature, which changes how liberally you can mud those. The smoother the better with each mud coat so you have less sanding to do. Go get 'em girl! You're doing a good job. Clearly very clever and enjoy learning, like your mom. Apples don't fall far from trees! God bless!
Abby girl you make all femalrs proud to be one sticking the home repair and re build out for the duration. Im so proud of your dedication of your first new home 😊😊😊😊
You can do vertical boards on your door. Usually they use dowels or biscuits between the boards and a horizontal board inlayed into a groove at the top and bottem to keep it from warping.

I love hearing you express your dreams & ideas to your mom. It’s so nice the way y’all are talking while working. Mother & daughter bonding… absolutely lovely 🥰
It was so nice to listen to you and your mom. The house is looking so beautiful with the walls up, such a great transformation. I think having matching interior doors made will be perfect and someone will definitely want to buy those old ones.
I don't think mudding is that bad either and having torn out lathe that was covered in horse hair plaster in a home built in 1903, I'd definitely prefer to mud 💯I think the concern for the diy mud jobs is that it's awful when ppl do a remodel and you can see seems or variations in the level of drywall from sheet to sheet when ppl don't do it properly or rush through the job. If you take your time, go back and do the second mud coat with the wider putty knives that you showed, while taking time and care to get it all level, you'll be just fine. Save money where you can, so you can splurge on the special things!
Like the door decision! Having the woodwork matching and fitted throughout the home will look real nice and cohesive even though they are different sizes! Also save you frustration with sticking/old door issues... You just can't get more beautiful than your front door so if it matches that, the beauty will just flow throughout and you're truly making this house your dream!! Raffle off the old doors and donate the money you make to your favorite charity for even more fun content!!
I hope you are keeping heat on during this entire process. If the house gets cold, in a few years the screws will start popping out. The house needs to be relatively warm during the mudding, taping, mudding process.
U both r doing an awesome job. Do u name your houses where u live? U could call it, “ TheJays”, so using jays name! Just an idea. Love your vlog x x 🇬🇧🥰
I agree with you, the old doors are not up to the quality of your house now, plus like you said trying to get them to fit would be a nightmare! Maybe see different crafty projects you could make out of them?
Abby, I totally understand you and your mom are amatures at taping and mudding the walls, but it pains me to see how slow...... you two are going. I don't mean to sound obnoxious, just an old man with too many years experience..❤
Abby I think it would be really cool to have Harley build your interior doors. He does such an excellent job based on the two he built for the exterior ones.
Seems big to me! 😂 I guess it’s all relative. I grew up in a 700 sq ft house and currently live in 700 sq ft apartment with my family of 4. Abby’s house is a glorious mansion to me! I would love all that extra space! 😊
Im amazed at the progress of the house. Seems like yesterday I found your channel and you just got the place and started taking down walls now your mudding drywall. Cant wait to see it finished
So good to see Brenda (MOM) working with you again!! I kinda of missed her comin to help you. Abby hire someone to mud??? She would have hired someone for the lath & plaster she tore out with her mom & Trudy!!! Yeah, I don't think so!! Abby loves to work on her house. And she has a great teacher who LOVES to help her, Right Jay!!!! GREAT JOB LADIES!!! God Bless A Drill & A Dream
It may just be camera perspective but it seems the living room is long and narrow. Is it? It's really hard to tell. Maybe it isn't too extreme and it's just camera illusions. What is the living room dimensions?
I was just thinking that. I look forward to Saturday s an Tuesday s. Ill miss it. But hopefully you will continue with all the outside work to be done!!!
My husband and I taped and mudded our drywall. I thought I'd give you a non pro tip, I bought the all red rubbered two pack spatulas from Walmart to scrape down the mud in the buckets so it didn't get dried out and used them to scrape them out towards the bottom to save money. We also added a little water, and mixed it up well before using the mud each time. We still use the emptied washed out buckets for several projects. We managed to save money by doing this.
Get the doors you want!! And yes…hollow doors, ugh!! I like what you showed us…and thicker is better for insulation and security with the solid frames!!
I don’t think we’re mad at you for not using the doors. I think we just like the idea of you giving something original to the house a new life in the house. But I agree it’s a lot of work. But they are probably solid wood doors so please don’t burn or trash them. Maybe give them to your local Habitat Restore or list them somewhere and they can go to someone who can’t afford solid wood doors for their house. Like your mom said, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. ❤
Wow Abby you look like a professional mudder cause I saw when Jay was showing you how to do it and you pretty much nailed it. This house is going to be beautiful. Great job your mom you did. I will be waiting for the next one.❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😁😁😁😁
I'm so glad your Mom is helping you. I was getting worried not seeing her and Skippy this past week Working Hores With Jim .The time with your Mom you will cherish. The house is coming together. 🙂
This reminds me of my daughter and I!! What a wonderful time spent with your mom. I’m so glad you have decided to have new doors, YAYYYYYYY🎉🎉 it’s looking very good!!
Abby, the house looks so different now. It's hard to believe it's the same house! Can't wait for the plumbing to get finished and you'll have running water. Talk about living in The Ritz!
I have always watered down the joint compound it helps with the tape sticking. You might want to use more mud on the seams as well. It is truly a learning curve. Good luck, it’s coming together.
It's fun to see your mom working with you! 💕 And she's asking all the questions I would be asking if I were helping!! Lol!! You're doing a great job!!! I'm so excited!!! 👏👏👏 It's fun to listen to you chatting! Fun video!!! 😊
Your mums idea of using the old doors outside made me wonder if you want to use them to make a shed. If they have lead paint you couldn’t use them for a raised garden bed but if not lead paint then you could use them for a raised garden bed or you could use them for a greenhouse
A Drywalled set in window is called a boxed window. it typically has a deeper window sill and enough depth for a small potted plants or even Knick Knacks. Great Idea for the south side of the home for high light need plants. Like cactus Herbs or Aloe. Or the North side of the house For low light need plants, like Violets or Wandering Jew.
Abby it is your house, do what you want to do, new doors is a great idea, instead of stripping the old ones, down, a lot of work that doesn't always look good, don't worry about them, you might be able to resale them to someone else. Love the videos, thanks Brenda for all of the help you are to Abby, and thanks to Jay and Jim, Seth and William too!
I am all for having matching doors with the front doors. They look amazing. Plus you can repurpose the old doors into the house by making them into shelving, or a custom piece of furniture made out of them.
Such a wonderful time to spend with your mom . You got a lot done. Abby your parents are the best. We need to see Trudy over there more . Lol. I think it's great idea to have the Amish guy make all new doors. He does such fantastic work. Great video
You are putting too much effort in the tape area. We watched you go over and over the tape on the ceiling knowing you were going to rip it. Just put mud under, , run the putty knife over in and put mud on top to smooth it and get away from it. You are doing a great job but you are wasting your time going over and over the tape. Good luck
So nice to have company while you "mud". Abby. the house is yours, whatever you decide is right for you. There are people out there that would probably love your old doors.
