Heard the questions y'all were asking and wanted to help out a bit. The books predominantly follow Geralt and transition to Ciri more as they go on. And in the books, Geralt does not use a crossbow. That was a game mechanic added for Witcher 3 that Geralt and Vesemir have a brief exchange of at the beginning of the game as Vesemir hands Geralt the crossbow for the first time. Geralt replies with "Are we breaking tradition finally?" or something like that, haha And awesome call on the potion being a poison. It's not readily apparent, but y'all locked the strategy in right off the bat. Witchers in general are resistant to poison and toxins, but Geralt himself stands out from the rest in that one regard. He has undergone more poison testing and mutation than any other Witcher of his time (by way of his mentors when he was a kid) due to his abnormal resiliency to it, hence his white hair which other Witchers do not have. This vampire in specific is called a bruxa, and they are considered pretty strong on the heirarchy of vampires in Witcher lore, hence her commentary at the beginning
the potion he drank is called Black Blood, against every creature that would try to dry of his blood. ))) Mostly against vampires, the main blood suckers in the story. )))
I’m barely Level 4 with about 10 hours into the game and I can already see why it’s considered a masterpiece. The acting…pacing…environment…music… phenomenal!!
