When the slasher genre started to dip as the mid-'80s came , it seemed as though there were no original ideas left. Then, the creative mind of horror legend Wes Craven came up with the idea of 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' in 1984. The idea, based on a news story Craven read, about people dying in their sleep from nightmares, was unlike any 'teen doesn't that had been done. Robert Shaye, head of New Line, had so much faith in the film, he even helped self finance the film. It was so successful, and the company became a legitimate production company, New Line became 'the house that Freddy built '. This is also notable as the film debut of Johnny Depp, and have birth to the one of the most recognizable and iconic horror villains, not just of the '80s, but if all time, Freddy Krueger!
Teens in Springhill are being stalked and killed in their dreams by the same man, a man with a striped sweater, a burnt face, and a glove with knives. When Nancy's best friend, Tina is killed, she tries to stay awake at all costs until she can figure out how to stop someone you can only see in your nightmares.

Thanks a lot, man! I can’t say I’m the biggest Elm Street , or even Freddy fan, but I remember being quite young and my parents showing me this film on cable, it was just the second half.... Shortly after, I was staying up later than I was suppose to, in my room, o saw that’s ok, so I watch that, and it’s that dream sequence! Little me, late at night, alone in my room, o didn’t scream but it freaked me out 😂
