EQUIPMENT
All steel welded integral construction, safety glass all round, laminated windscreen, louvered radiator grill, bright drip-rail, windshield and rear window inserts, anti-burst locks, bright bumpers, bodyside rubbing strip, black side window frames, simulated wood grain fascia, wood veneer door cappings, perforated headlining, ‘hangdown’ centre console, RST21P radio cassette, vanity mirror, seat valances, cigar lighter, quartz clock, boot mat, two rear coat hooks, instrument illumination control, two speed wipers with ‘flick’ wipe, electric screen wash. Factory fitted options; Automatic transmission, metallic paint, passenger door mirror.
EXTERIOR
This beautiful top of the range Ghia is one of the later examples of Ford’s iconic Cortina MkV, sometimes known as the Cortina 80 being the facelift version of the MKIV. This fabulous example is finished in optional Crystal Green metallic (code 61). The paintwork boasts a pleasing bright shine and polished finish. All panels are straight and free from corrosion, and the underside is structurally excellent. Close scrutiny will reveal minor markings in line with the vehicles age and remedial paint work. The rear wheel arches have recently been repaired. The glass and lamp lenses are registration etched and all trim sections and bumpers are spotless. A very rare surviving luxury classic Ford guaranteed to attract much onlooker appreciation.
INTERIOR
A beautifully clean and preserved 1980’s Ford interior to instantly take you back in time and a true delight to any ‘blue oval’ enthusiast. The immensely comfortable Green Chatsworth and Crushed Velour (code W6) fabric seats are free from wear or damage. The spotlessly clean colour keyed cut pile carpets, matching door cards and perforated headlining are in excellent order aside from a tiny burn mark in the drivers foot well. All switchgear and functions operate exactly as intended including the RST21P radio cassette and electric aerial. The perfect dashboard has suffered no cracks or distortion. A well appointed and refined interior with the usual Ghia indulgence to enjoy!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Ford’s time tested and trustworthy 2000 OHC unit with twin venturi carburettor needs little introduction, with simplicity and readily available parts providing plenty of scope for recreational tinkering! With a power output of 101bhp the engine is whisper quiet and wonderfully smooth and the car can match the pace of modern traffic with ease. A clean and tidy engine bay displays factory stickers and plates. The optional automatic transmission with oil cooling offers relaxed effortless motoring.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five light alloy road wheels are in superb order with quality 185/70 R13 tyres are fitted all round showing plenty of tread. Hydraulic dual line brakes with servo assistance and uprated 9in rear drums standard on the Ghia models offer ample stopping power and complete assurance.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealer Taylors of Gloucester and first registered on 9th November 1981, this stunning Ford Cortina is accompanied with a neatly organised and comprehensive history file to include many previous MOT certificates and maintenance invoices. The original PVC wallet contains the handbooks, operating guides and audio manuals.
Representing a beautiful looking and very usable example, this Cortina drives brilliantly and is ready for classic Ford motoring enjoyment.
MOT September 2016, HPI Clear.

Takes me back to 1985. My mate had a green cortina, can’t remember what model. Inside was lovely green material seats, brilliant stereo. We were young and carefree. As long as we had a few £ for Saturday night we were happy. I’m 63 now, grey and a grandad.

I bought a 1981 2.0 Ghia in strato silver in 1986. I paid the princely sum of £2300 for it, minus a £1000 trade in from a rotten 2.0 GL. One of my favourite old Fords. This example is a real beauty!

I bought a 1981 W reg 2.0 litre Ghia in 1988. It's bodywork was so rotten that even the roof panel above the door frame had rusted through. They don't make them like that anymore thank goodness. The thing must have started rusting before it left the dealership.

I'm not a fan of Ford but I have to say, this is a smart vehicle. I remember when the mk4 was introduced and saw a few "de badged" cars driving around as I lived near Dunton at the time which housed the Ford test site. Looked pretty good back then and so does this fine example now.

ooh la la.... I owned one very similar to this! Same 2.0 Ghia automatic, except it was Diamond White with Tan Chatsworth interior, and had the steel Sports Road Wheels with the deep dish embellishers, plus front bumper-mounted driving lamps. Absolutely miss it and regret selling it but at the time I didn't have anywhere to keep it. Congrats to the lucky buyer.... these really are very comfortable and reliable cars! Ford doesn't make them like this anymore
@damieg82
@damieg82 5 лет назад
@charlie Nope. Mine was Ziebart treated from new so never had any rust issues. A relative also had one, a 1.6 L automatic, which didnt have rust-proofing. The only rot was on the rocker panels. They were cut out and replaced after about 15 years from new, and there were no other issues until it was sold after 30 years of ownership.

My great uncle bought identical car same spec but in metallic blue 2.0 Ghia Automatic 1983 on Y plate , brand new from Ford Dagenham, I was only 13 years of age but remember the car very well one of the best cars in the street in Wembley London at that time , my great uncle recently passed away at the age of 90 stopped driving over 30 years ago , that same car still lies in my great uncles heated garage untouched for nearly over 3 decades , We popped up to see my great aunty at their house and I popped into the garage took the blanket of the car which wasn't removed for over nearly 30 years and to my surprise the car still looks very original, all four tyres are flat lots of dust , opened the drivers door and to my amazement still smelt new inside and no smell of damp or moisture, still retains it last original road tax dated 1986 , original drivers handbook in glovebox, original number plates with Dagenham printed on them , also Dagenham window stickers , on noticing the front of the car they have headlamp washers which was a factory fitted option, also front ford round fog lights fitted , found two original keys on passengers seat , Beautifully resting in garage , shame really proper 80s nostalgia, spoke to my great aunty about the car and she said she want to leave it in garage as a memory to my great uncle , sad really as the car has not even done 19,000 miles when looked at the odometer. So I just wrapped the blanket over the car where it will stay lain for many more years to come .

I had a w reg 1.6GL. I had to purchase the optional passenger side door mirror and the head registrants fillers. Just finished the rustic brown interior off. Really comfy. Amazing car in its day, rust in the usual locations, front window screen wheel arch. I recall the first Y reg Sierras, not the best to be fare. The new Vauxhall Cavalier front wheel drive was leaps and bounds ahead of the Sierra. Loads of front leg room due to been front wheel drive. Different drive completely.

I still miss my 82 Corrina Ghia 2.0 I also bought the V6 version but no where near as good as the 2.0 litre 4 cyl version. I've had lots of new cars, but none of them as great to drive or as reliable as the 82 Cortina Mk V. Pity the Sierra came along, ruined everything. The upholstery in the New Zealand built versions was better quality than the British built versions. Those seats were so comfortable I could drive 480 kilometres without a break and feel as fresh as a daisy. I tried to recapture my enthusiasm for Ford by purchasing a new Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ecoboost Estate in 2015. Very disappointing. Noisy engine noisy auto transmission terrible paint job that chipped easily. Heated front windscreen that obscured vision and really expensive tyres that wore badly. Poor quality carpet and a sat nav system that could not understand English. Thankfully they stopped production in 2017.

I loved both my Mk V Ghias, I had the 2.3 V6 and the 2.0 L pinto 4. The 2.0 was a much better vehicle than the V6 which suffered premature camshaft wear. To this very day, that Ford had the most comfortable front seats, easy to drive 400 kilometres non stop and arrive fresh as a daisy, no back aches, or sore backside. In my opinion the 1982 Mk V Ghia was well ahead of its time for handling, comfort and economy( Depending which ratio diff you got, as it was a lucky dip) I wish I could go back in time and buy a new one and bring it back to the present day. Such a pity that Ford lost the plot with most models post 1983. Even my new 2.0 2015 ecoboost Mondeo took second place. Which is why I got rid of it after the warranty expired. Ford really tried hard to please with the Fusion and Mondeo but a poor choice of the 6 speed short life Auto transmission spoiled the enjoyment of the car. Mk 5 Cortina Ghia wins for sheer driving pleasure.

I'm going to start a campaign to bring back coloured velour upholstery. Modern cars are just black and boring or sticky leather.

not so much a panal gap at 0e45 , more like the Berlin wall ! geez, could Ford actually make a panel gap bigger without slowing down the production line, and its length, this says not !!!

The Cortina 2.3 Ghia, Will Out Handle & out perform A Quite New XR3i. & have a Superb Ride. Find Perfect Examples & Track Test them Side by side, The 2.3 Cortina will Kick Arse By Far. NO Competition. The XR3i Will lose grip & slide all over the track. The Cortina will be Bang on Line on every Bend. Wet or Dry. WAFTING in Superb Luxury. Not Shaking the Fillings out of your Teeth. XR3i = Crap Ride, Crap Handling, Feels like Great Fun But Just Banging & Rattling along. The Cortina Will Destroy an XR3i on the Fast Bendy Roads. The XR3i Will Look like an INVERTED HEDGEHOG, Pricks on the INSIDE. I Had Both at the Same time for a few Years so I KNOW FOR SURE Which is REALITY.

When ford used to sell beautiful cars and not ugly machines like today , ford designers lost their vision when they made Serra, Granada, Taurus, the trend went on till they made the the last Scorpio termed as the ugliest car in the world, in India ford failed because they could not make good looking small cars

My Uncle was a fleet manager in the 70's and 80's and he said that Cavaliers and Cortinas would make his life easy, but BL and Talbots were awful. He said the early Sierras were so bad customers wanted their Cortinas back!
@Glenn1967ful
@Glenn1967ful 2 года назад
BL's alternative was the Ital 1.7, not that bad, but had a low rent interior and lacked the performance of a 2 litre Cortina, while the Princess in 2 litre form was slower. Talbot made nothing bigger than a 1.6 and while the Solara SX was very well equipped, it was a lot less refined than the Cortina and had a poor gearchange until 1982.
