I am so sorry for your loss. I went through the same situation. My husband had frequent gerd and took Nexium. One day he started violently choking on food. Diagnosis by a upper endoscopy showed a large mass blocking his throat. I watched my big strong man go to a wheelchair and walker. He passed away on 3/18/2014. I'm still traumatized by events at the end. I regret that he wasted time with chemo and radiation. Cancer always wins in the end. I hope that you are well and only think of the happier times. May God bless and comfort you 🙏

I lost my wife to cancer-it took 2 months. I have told my children that I want no part of radiation/chemo. I agree with you- cancer always wins-many get upset hearing it but its winning % is tough to beat. I would prefer a more peaceful ending than trying to extend time bypassing quality and constant hospital visits etc... Since I lost my wife thats an easy call for me and I am now 66 and 3 years later. It makes me at peace knowing they know how I feel even if my daughters are a bit more wanting a fight with no give up-But I have seen too many go in saying whatever it takes -and they will win- I am sorry but I know none that have. I fully understand how you feel. Its just that society and Doctors and Institutions are all about the "battle" - I am fine as my own General in my own battle to say "I am done" should this situation happen to me. It does give me some peace of mind and will not mangle myself and my family with "false hopes" against a superior foe.

GERDs is very serious and so are the medication prescribed. Diet will reduce the risk and at times eliminate the reflux. I know, I had acid reflux. In my case, plain 8% Greek yogurt and almond milk worked and does to this day. A sad and tragic story.
