Piece of advice: If there's a situation with your local police department NEVER make a complaint to that department. Go immediately to the state cops and the state Attorney general.

Being a cop is the dream job for bullies, criminals, sexual predator's, terrorist's, and murders. Seriously, dangerous people make deadly cops.

This was rampant in Louisville when I was a reporter. The newspaper refused to investigate because the editor was dating an officer. Disgusting.

If the woman hadn't saved his DNA, the Louisville Police would've never done anything and it would've continued. Sickening.

The fact that you can resign and potentially not face any punishment is beyond frustrating.

In a very serious situation such as this, it should be MANDATORY that NO alleged victims can be interviewed without an attorney present!! The Cops should NOT be allowed to interview ANY "VICTIM" without that victim having someone there on her/his behalf!! Should be TOTALLY OUTLAWED NATION WIDE!!!

There was a probation officer convicted for doing the same thing here in GA. People who are already on supervision and desperate to stay out of trouble are super vulnerable.

A 5-year sentence is disgusting. As a cop, someone who we are raised to trust, should get an even higher sentence because of the abuse of power.

My daughter pulled into a vacant Kmart parking lot and parked, waiting for her husband to give him his lunch. A truck pulled up beside her. Of all of the empty spots in the lot, he parked right beside her. She glanced over and noticed that he was doing a lewd act. She was scared shitless. Immediately, she began making notice of every scratch, dent, and flaw on the truck so she could identify it later. When she drove off, she got the tag # and went straight to the gas station at the edge of the parking lot and called police. Oh, did I mention her 4 year old child was in the back seat? When the police came, she gave a very complete description of the man and the vehicle. She could have picked him out of a line-up. The cops already knew who he was. He was the investigator of police. He was the guy who investigated bad cops. He tried to say his truck was stolen, but they told him no way man she described you to a T! It was you. He was caught. When she went in to talk to police they treated her like scum. They followed her and pulled her over for no reason. Scared her family. She felt like she was the criminal. She wanted justice for what this piece of dog crap had done but not to the unrest and Ill will of her other children and her family. She felt like there was no way to win. It really saddened me that the Springfield Illinois police department could do this and let this monster get away with this. I pray they finally got this guy out of the department. We left Illinois after this.

After viewing this entire video i feel the Fed's need to get involved and reopen this case in it's entirety. How can the xop get favorable treatment for such an outrageously vile crime like this!!! This type of "justice" is what makes the system work more for the criminals than the victims and it MUST BE STOPPED NOW, NATION WIDE!!!😡

In my town, a cop did that a couple times, and one of the women (a transient) told a sheriff’s deputy. He reported it, they investigated, and the guy’s in jail. I’m very proud of my local law enforcement for actually going after their own.

This is a glimpse of what happens in every police department. This whole "well investigate ourselves and tell you what we found later" is absolutely pathetic.

I hate the term "sexual misconduct" just say sexual assault or harassment, don't blur the lines. "Misconduct" sounds like a mild fumble at worst.

"Investigators repeatedly took Hankison at his word even when his account was directly contradicted by material evidence." So investigators never wanted to investigate Hankison in the first place. They were just going through the motions and in the process trying to discredit the ladies who were victims of this monster.

I'm from Cali but mo Ed to Arizona in 2018. I was at a gas station in Tempe the police had a car stopped doing a search I was minding my business, walked into the gas station purchased my gas, while pumping gas there were about 5 officers there. I went on about my day. I live in Mesa about 15 mins from Tempe. A few days later I go to my car that's parked in my apts lot I see a card on my card from Tempe police and a not on the back said " I think you're very beautiful & would like to get to know you, my name is Calvin".😮 I was freaked out. The officer in Tempe at the gas station HAD to run my name and find out where I live, I was scared not flattered!! Threw the card away. Never heard from the officer either.

It is absolutely sickening listening to those POS PIU “investigators” treat the victims like criminals and talk to them like they’re the ones in the wrong. It’s sickening.

What makes this abuse more damning is: the authorities know exactly what is going on and they refuse to put measures in place to counteract it. Officers should never be allowed to investigate themselves. There should be a civilian body appointed for this purpose, and these folks should not even have any cops as relatives.

I live in Louisville ky. This been going on for well over 20 years. That department is extremely corrupt. They tried to cover for officers that raped little kids in a explorer program. I know women that work at strip clubs in Louisville. They told me that police officers would come to the clubs while on duty and sleep with prostitutes. And then tell them that they wont bust the clubs for anything illegal as long as they sleep with them. I know a bunch of women that said officers would ask to see their breast in order to get out of a speeding ticket. That was before they had body cameras and audio. There's also a bunch of officers that commonly steal drug money and keep drugs after busting drug dealers. Officers also got exposed having sex with prostitutes' at massage parlors and then busting them for prostitution. Officers also work off duty jobs at gas stations and park their marked car there and then go home and go to sleep. They are getting paid to be there and they are not there. That's stealing time. I could keep going forever with more but I'm tired of typing. They always let officers resign so they don't get into any trouble. Then they go straight to another department somewhere else and do the same things all over again. Its sad.

When they turned it into "don't think you're special" and got angry at her, I knew the whole place was rotten. The Justice Department needs to get involved to make sure these people go to prison.

While I do wish we could hold accountable those who violate the rights of the people, unfortunately, such actions are not permissible. A more viable solution would be to make becoming a police officer a more rigorous process. The requirements should include at least 2 years of schooling, along with additional certifications. While this may not be a perfect solution, it would certainly be a positive step forward. People tend to value what they invest their time in, and although exceptions may exist, implementing these changes would likely result in immediate improvements. It is unreasonable to expect police officers to truly value their job if the path to becoming one takes mere weeks. Although the presence of law enforcement is essential to combat wrongdoing, the inherent risk lies in the fact that the same negative elements can infiltrate the system. Therefore, instituting more demanding prerequisites for becoming a police officer would act as a deterrent and help maintain the integrity of the profession.

Every police department should have a civilian committee of lawyers teachers , community members overlooking and investigating police complaints and corruption. How can we trust the police to investigate their own. Look at how many complaints they ignored until they were outed.

Had a similar experience with a cop. He came to our house to make a report about my grandpa getting mugged and immediately was creepy af! He asked me for my number and I gave him a fake one. Suddenly he appeared out of nowhere in streets I was walking, places I'd be. i immediately reported it to a different precinct where I was a police explorer and oh yeah I was 17! They sent the complaint to the state attorney. He didn't do anything to me , besides follow me but the state attorney had other complaints about him but not enough evidence to take him to trial. A year and half later he had raped a 16 year old girl. And finally had enough to prosecute and was sent to prison for6 year's. Just disgusting.

I am a female and have understood since I was 17 that law enforcement officers were dangerous. I am more frightened of the police than of any random guy on the street. My children are frightened of police after witnessing the way I was talked to when pulled over for minor traffic stuff. I have had friends tell me I should teach my children to trust police officers but I would never compromise their safety with that belief. Police are more similar to criminals than not. If you don't realize that fact I hope you stay safe.

The Louisville Mayor needs to be pressured by citizens to clean house at LMPD.

The very first thing i noticed when they were interviewing that cop is they ask questions in a completely different way to if it is not a cop. They treat cops much better than the treat civilian suspects. Thats a form of corruption in itself.

I literally just mentioned this already. But a girlfriend and I were going through Louisville and got pulled over by 2 very creepy police. They pulled us over just to hit on us and ask us out. They started to get a bit aggressive until I told them I had a camera and thats when they shut up and sent us on our way. You will want to be careful going through there if you are a girl or if you're out of town. We were terrified because something didn't feel rt at all. Hard not to think what would've happened if I hadn't said my dash camera wasn't on? Just be careful going though Louisville!

Louisville PD: Don’t ever say integrity in the same sentence.

When I was in my early twenties, a cop pulled me over citing he saw me on my cell phone. When I showed him that my phone had been zipped in my purse in the back and there was no way I could be on it, he told me that it was fine but I was to only use a blue tooth device for hands free calling. He then said that he would let me off with a warning only if I texted him a "full body" picture of myself holding said device to his personal cell phone and he asked for my cell number. My insides felt horrible and my danger detector was screaming. I didn't feel comfortable so I asked him if it was usual to for officers to text civilians. He said that it would be to his phone so it was ok. I gave him a fake number. When he left, I burst into tears and drove home.

As an ex cop he may seek revenge after release and how terrifying is that ?

Police officers, judges, attorneys, prosecutors should have any charge against them ENHANCED. They went to classes, schools, training for a public job to PROTECT AND SERVE. When they break the law, a common man would get say 5 years, the cops should get 10 years for same charge due to Enhancement of charge due to the titles or jobs they hold

It’s long been known that “police, investigating their own” is and will always be a terrible idea🤦 In no other industry or job (other than the military I guess 🤷‍♂️) are given this responsibility due to the fact we all understand just how insane it is🤦 It’s not that police shouldn’t or can’t be trusted in particular, it’s that nobody can or should be, especially people that have such authority over other’s 🙄 We’ve learned this repeatedly throughout history, yet for some reason we keep accepting that it will be different this time 🤦 The fact that victims have to come forward to the very organization to which the offenders are actually employees is absolute nonsense, it doesn’t get much more cohesive than that😡 not to mention the giant level of “conflict of interest “ that’s literally unavoidable in this situation, regardless of whether or not you’re speaking with a different departments 🤷‍♂️ I mean seriously, this members are all operating under the same union, the unions have no interest in protecting the public, only members, like that alone doesn’t create an inappropriate connection for these kinds of investigations! Saying you’re conducting a third party investigation using people from exactly the same pool of individuals is a slap in the face to citizens in general 😡 Police constantly assert to citizens “if you’ve got nothing to hide, you’ve got nothing to worry about “ whether they basically make contact with people and have the slightest suspicion, wanting to conduct warrantless searches, interview without representation etc, yet officers will never be forced into any of this, even when there is obvious evidence of an actual crime 🤷‍♂️ It’s the worst kept secret on earth yet people are continually told it’s the only way the system can work, because if too many police are held accountable, there would be a shortage of police 😡 seriously, that’s the second biggest lie being told, I’ve seen other countries clear entire states of corrupt officers over the years, it didn’t cause shortages, it created shortages of officers willing to engage in illegal activity though 🤷‍♂️ it also improved public relations, what a shock🤦 If a good officer comes forward to report wrongdoing by other members, almost always the instantly become a target by the entire department, they’ve even been left in life or death situations without backup from fellow officers for being a snitch 🙄 yet getting citizens to snitch on other’s, many time’s being forced against their will and at a massive personal risk, yet police will tell you it’s an extremely important tool used to catch dangerous criminals which is more valuable to society than any one person’s safety! This tactic is so successful that it’s use against it’s own members is somehow “shocking to the consciousness “🙄 I don’t hate police, I hate bad policing, and if you’re a member willing to hide another’s bad behavior, even by turning a blind eye, you’re part of exactly the same “rotten barrel “. In my opinion, the only way to fix this issue is to have “independent oversight over the entire law enforcement “ whose members have far higher authority than police, but solely over police! Secondly, unions need to be smashed down the ladder, back to dealing with working conditions like any other workplace, any unions caught using their position to influence the outcome of any internal investigation of officers should be charged with an actual crime! It appears that union has more power than the government when it comes to policing! This is extraordinarily bad, considering unions are actually “private entities “

No woman should have to experience this sexual assaults and abuse

This hits a personal note because my aunt who is now dead was abused by cops in the Atlanta area. She was abused by two cops sexually in the early 2000s. They would threaten her with the SAME stuff that has happened to these victims. Our family settled out of court. Our family is still traumatized from everything and are very fearful of cops because of the power they have.

When cops abuse their power like this it's the ultimate betrayal of public trust

That's when you started calling in favors from all your shady or just plain loyal friends. Fact is, they are everyday, vulnerable humans just like you. And at some point, every single day, they are off duty, taking a shower, eating dinner, shopping, sleeping.

I was raped on LMPD's property. At their impound lot where they insisted I had to go to my vehicle alone, unaccompanied by my friend who had came along. The locksmith came and raped me in my vehicle. LMPD locked him up for one night, released him, and he had his job back the next day. They wanted to do a forensic analysis on MY phone which I refused. Why not his phone? I am the VICTIM.

The woman with the DNA evidence is a life saver. Thank goodness she thought ahead.

I have lived in Louisville, Ky my whole life. I am 34 and I first heard of this when I was a teenager in high school and several of my friends that went to UofL were getting pulled over and sexually harassed on and off campus. One of them was forced to have sexual relations with an officer after getting pulled over leaving a campus party bc she had been drinking and found a blunt in her car. She never spoke out or came forrowed bc she was to scared for several reasons. There are so many stories I could tell. Unfortunately, its been happening for a very long time and still is happening until this day. Its so sad and extremely disturbing. I'm so glad Vice is reporting on this. There was a reporter here in Louisville who knew all about it, but wouldn't investigate or do a story on it bc she was dating an officer. I sware these disgustingly corrupt cops seem to have ahold on just about everyone that is in a position who could do something, but won't bc they are envolved with an officer themselves. I feel extremely bad for all the victims. Even if they are strong and have the courage to speak up, look what happens to them. So sad, they all deserve justice.

Thus happened to me when I was 18, I printed out all of our conversations and took them to my lawyer. He was fired and come to find out someone I went to high school with coached his kids’ basketball team and he did the same thing to her. People love to abuse their power.

I was the victim of domestic violence. The LPD cops refused to help me. I had to escape to save my life. I lost everything I owned bc I fled to a different state leaving behind all my earthly possessions. They said they didn't believe me even though there was broken furniture ,glass and I had bruises and swollen marks on my face. I felt like I was living in somekind of nightmarish twilight zone. To this day I can't understand why they refused to help me.

My entire career ended after I was forced to make a statement against a predatory police Captain. I was one of 5 victims that the dept knew about. I was told, "you make a statement or be suspended without pay". My life has never been the same.

Policing should honestly require a 4 year university degree. Not a bunch of weeks then here have a pewpew go have fun. If it required courses in psychology, de-escalation tactics, non lethal response tactics, improved self defense, etc etc, it would lead to a much more effective policing force. And pay them accordingly. Make it worth going through that hard training, which would filter out all the people who don't deserve to have the power that they do.
