Thanks ES! Yeah I'll be honest I don't have one, not yet anyways. I do have a block that I forgot to load up that morning, so I didn't necessarily set myself up for an easy load of the firewood after I cut it all down. I appreciate you watching!

Yes!! I was hoping you guys would enjoy this video. I didn't even need firewood, but I was so thrilled to get out there that day. Lots and lots of trees can be found in this neck of the woods! That is 100% just some low cloud cover. It really added to the views! I had seen some posts online before going out that snow was up there, and to my surprise it was mostly just on the trees and it made for some truly beautiful shots. Tell your mom I said thank you for the nice comments! So the elevation there was approximately 4,100'. I assume that probably seems high fore some folks! I am a Stihl fan myself! That chainsaw is actually my Dad's. That's the one I grew up to him using to cut firewood for our family when I was younger. My other chainsaw is currently out of commission, but it's small and I've really put it through the ringer these last couple of years! I'm hoping that my credit card rewards points will earn me enough for a gift card somewhere to buy a new saw next summer! Those things aren't cheap! I have had my eye on that tree for quite awhile actually!! That area is where I've been cutting firewood for the last couple of years, and so I've come to know it pretty well. I made a recent YT Short on another tree I cut down recently that I believe you saw, and that one was about 100 yards from this one. People never seem to want to cut down trees that are downhill (I partly see why 😂), but I'll put in the extra effort it may take if the tree is of that quality. I was unloading the rounds from my truck yesterday, and one actually split in half just from dropping it on the ground. No rot, perfectly dry, and it didn't even have to cure. I took those two halves and threw it in the fire, and they burned for about five hours alone! That tree was definitely kind of a pain, and judging by its lean I decided to fell it downhill just to play it safe. I probably could have cabled it, and pulled it uphill with my truck, but again it felt safest for my skill set to tip it downhill. I have successfully pulled trees up to the road before, but typically that requires a block (pulley) to hook a cable to and pull it in the direction that I want it to go. However, guess who forgot to load up the block that morning? This guy right here! Trying to pull trees uphill with a cable and a truck is usually impossible without one because the tree either A.) gets pulled sideways and gets caught/jammed on stumps and brush, or B.) will just roll and drag sideways or sidehill and never actually make it up the road. It's all dependent on the situation I suppose. Haha I will definitely say I wasn't expecting the tree to slide as much as it did. I may have mumbled a curse word or two under my breath when I realized it slid about 50' down the hill. I like the eating an elephant analogy (or metaphor)! I did try to pull the tree up with a cable for over an hour off camera actually, but I realized it may just be faster if I put in the work and hike the rounds up. Ha! I'll take a Milwaukee Sponsor! It's a pretty easy way to mark your tree in my opinion. I will say that cutting the rounds on that steep slope was difficult. My cuts didn't come out as straight as I would've liked them to! Yeah the tree was a pretty easy drop! There was about six feet or so of rot mixed in at the base of it. I also knew I was racing a drone battery to get it fully cut down! 30 rounds was just about right! I think in total I did about 28 trips. I was exhausted to be honest... and I may have left five or six of the smaller rounds up there. It's driving me nuts too, and I may just drive up there today or tomorrow to go get them depending on snow of course. I was trying to tell myself that each round was getting just a little bit smaller! The good ol' home gym! Hiking season keeps me out of that thing, but I'm dabbling back into some strength training now that the season is changing! Thanks for mentioning the videography on this one (it's definitely a word)! I didn't know how it was going to come out with not speaking, but I think it got the point. I just wanted to create a good video, that could be looked at as peaceful. That hill was definitely steep!! That was all camera magic that you were seeing! The first drone shot of me hiking the round up was a round of firewood, and then the overhead shot was actually a different piece of firewood. I just pieced them together, put Lolly in the same spot, and combined the shots to make them appear to be one :) I was out there for about seven or eight hours that day! It was a long one!! @@theidahopanhandlers We absolutely LOVED this one!!! I think about it during the day when I am at work and getting my butt kicked!!! It is very relaxing and peaceful. You could NOT have done a better job conveying that!!! That is SO AMAZING that you did not even need firewood, but you went up there anyway to get some. I COMPLETELY get it. If it were me, I might have never come back down!!! 😊 It is hard to describe how all that work could be relaxing, but OMG, it was!!! I mean, especially if you were just watching the video!!! Oh God, I cannot believe those were real clouds. I have never experienced anything like that before. It DEFINITELY added to the cool factor in this video!!! Oh yeah, the snow on the trees looked so unusual or different I should say. We don’t get that look around here. It seemed surreal!!! I would have taken about 1,000 pictures, hours of video, and probably still been sitting up there with my jaw dropped looking like a complete idiot. That single experience alone is mind boggling to me. I know you are used to it I am sure, but as I mentioned I still think about that video. That video has re-energized us. Now that is a reward and a half. Having the round split because it is perfectly dry AND give you 5 hours of heat. You sent me a table that listed trees species and the number of BTUs they burn. That Larch will keep you guys warm for some time!!! That must be so rewarding, especially now that everything costs so much. Nice to heat your home with hard work and not your bank account. 😊 I have been watching videos on how to fell trees and how to use a block and tackle. It is a simple device, around for zillions of years and is a huge force multiplier. I am embarrassed to say, although I knew what one was, I had no idea how useful they could be. I actually purchased a snatch block, but it is in my car right now. I have it for when I am out there, in case I slide off a road. Here, I just call AAA. 😊 Realistically, very low chance of that ever happening around here!!! Hehehehe, it happens!!! You certainly overcame it though. Good to know about all the potential issues with pulling a log up hill. I thought you were going to pass on cutting that tree in the video because it would be impossible to retrieve. I figured it would fall and keep falling. 😊 I am surprised it only went 50 feet. However, I am sure that 50 ft. felt like a mile when you were on your 20th round. 😊 Ahh, the magic of video. 😊 Sometimes rolling up your sleeves is just what it takes to get the job done. You made that entire process look so easy. I realize it was not, but it looked like that was your plan all along!! I can imagine it was exhausting. I was beat just watching!! Ahhh, you will have to do a short if you go back there and grab those remaining rounds!!! That would be awesome!!! Like you mentioned, chances are at that elevation, they are probably covered with snow, but maybe next spring. Hehehehehe, the power of positive thinking. @@theidahopanhandlers I was thinking why not winch that tree up to the road, shorten trip between cut rounds and pickup. Or try to drop tree uphill instead of down. Imagination is a lot different than real thing. I'm in urban Virginia and I pick up many rounds pre-cut stacked in front of houses. Last few years, I've used Greenworks chainsaw. I got a PFERD CHAIN SHARP CS-X chain sharpener from Amazon; clamp saw blade in vice and few strokes on each cutter keeps it cutting fast. Very nice video.

@@mrh0wler353 Super valid points. I don't own a winch unfortunately.. but typically what I use is cable and a block pulley to pull trees up to the road. In the midst of filming and loading my truck up in the opening shot I mistakenly left the block hanging on the wall. So.. I tried for about an hour off-camera to pull that tree up to the road and didn't succeed. It got to the point to where I had to make the decision of if I wanted to get the tree into the truck I was going to have to do it the very hard way. As far as dropping it uphill, it had a pretty mean lean to it and so I just decided to drop it downhill. That was WAY more work than what I usually put in for bringing trees in.. I definitely prefer to drop trees above the road anyways. Aha, but I've been looking at the 18V Greenworks saw for awhile now to bring along with me. Do you like that saw?? Thanks for watching!
