I always peg it. It allows for a ton of flexibility. You can always move it up and down the line. I can slide it down when around heavy cover and move it up when I'm not. You should also be using a Snell Knot for your hook to man...

Great video. Simple, cut to the point yet detailed in explanation. I've been fishing my whole life (I'm over 30 now) but it's always been night crawlers and split shots and catch what bites. Now, I've been trying to get more into detail fishing for species and different types of water so doing research with a video like this really adds a boost to want to leave the house right now and go give it a shot. Thanks. Keep up the great work and fish on!!

Hi, firstly thank you for all our videos, they have really improved my fishing techiques, and I've been bass fishing a while :) I want to ask you something regarding this video. I tend to be bank fishing and I usually target the rocks/boulders that are the main contruct of the dam wall. I have noticed that when I use a texas rig with a small, pegged weight I tend to get my lure to return to me with no issues, but when I use a bullet weight as seen in your video and not pegging it, I will always lose my lure by the 3rd cast. Is this because the weight and hook are getting separated and then getting lodged on the rocks? Would you recommend pegging them? Thanks :)
@THIRTYONEFILMS
@THIRTYONEFILMS 2 года назад
I often will do a loose peg, basically pegging 12-14” from my hook, so it acts as unpegged action on bite, weight doesn’t drift too far from lure, and if I come up on thicker cover, I can just slide it down and it’s instantly pegged without re-rigging anything

Great video! Idk if anyone agrees, but at the end I think it would have been cool to have seen more time of each fish catch- like seeing how you’re working the lure/bait for even a couple seconds prior to each bite.
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing 2 года назад
While I agree with you, the RU-vid algorithm does not. People skip if there is no action quickly
@ovechkinata
@ovechkinata 2 года назад
I have heard a lot of experienced anglers say that leaving a Texas worm unpegged is critical and gets them more bites, being that when the weight hits the worm in the water it gives it a spiral presentation and entices the fish more
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing 2 года назад
Very interesting. I had not thought of that, but that could definitely be the case for some fish
@ryanoutdoors1729
@ryanoutdoors1729 2 года назад
Yeah my uncle always uses a small weight but breaks a toothpick off inside the weight so it stays pegged
@dragngt
@dragngt 2 года назад
I have one counter point to pegging your soft plastic. With it unpegged, if you flip it over a branch the weight often separates and causes you to get snagged as it’s adding weight down as you’re trying to pull out and off tree limbs.
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing 2 года назад
Yeah, if you’re fishing around a whole bunch of sticks, then peg. I covered that
@dragngt
@dragngt 2 года назад
@@TylersReelFishing I sort of thought you were addressing the depth you can get with the weight and pegging not so much the risk of getting hung up. Great video though. Enjoy watching you and your videos. 👍
@cvleng0822
@cvleng0822 2 года назад
I never use one. Mainly because i dont have any, but also just dont care to. If i want to keep my weight in one place with a bullet weight, i loop the line up and back through the hole in the weight. I know this isnt good to do because you create 2 more points of abrasion on the fluro, but im also not catching 5lb+ fish haha
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing 2 года назад
Yeah, I would highly recommend against that because one of these days, you are going to hook into a fish of a lifetime, and break it off, due to something you could have prevented

What are your thoughts on pegged vs unpegged in reeds up here in Minnesota? A lot of the reeds vary from thick to sparse even on the same lake. Personally, I peg my Texas rig in reeds because the extra line could allow my bait to not reach the water in the fall reeds. Thoughts?
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing 2 года назад
Depends how thick the reeds are and the depth. I’d say Minnesota reeds are a bit more sticky than most though, so maybe peg and see if you start losing some

Pegs work incredibly well for straight braid. As a matter of fact, if you are punching, you should be using straight braid, with a heavy weight, and a peg

Never understood pegging a Texas rig. Just use a jig head. They make bullet weight shaped jigs heads with screwlocks and ewg hooks. And if the argument is that you can peg or unpeg your rig on the fly, then use those peg its products. Can't remove a rubber bobber stop without re-tieing. And I NEVER put my weight on backwards; I forget to slide it on entirely!
