I read you a poem of mine about St. Patrick and two fine poems by Yeats to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day If you wish, you can encourage me with coffee and cake (or even a Guiness!) here: www.buymeacoff...
Thank you for making videos like this. My wife and I are going through a separation and when I lay in bed by myself you bring my anxiety down when I listen to you.
Sorry, I've been through it on the female side,it's horrible. However, although I couldn't see it then, it does get better. I'm still single after 18 yrs. Some like the solitude, some dislike the loneliness. I used to be a people person, but I've become a homebody. I hope you're good to yourself. I'm here if you need a friend. Keep smiling. ❤
Hello Malcolm Happy St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ Nice to see you this morning . Enjoying your video as I drink a coffee and pack a pipe with some Early Morning Pipe. Hope your visit to Texas was refreshing and enjoyable. Have a great day, Cheers
I'm delighted that this Canadian female has discovered this channel. I had my ancestry done ,Irish, English, French, and German . 100% European. I love all the great poets. ❤
The Lake Isle of Innisfree is the kind of poem that transports you and leaves you near breathless. You are exactly right, Malcolm, a near perfect poem, if not perfect. Only a handful of those exist. Happy St. Patrick's Day and thank God for all those singers, poets, and bards from that emerald isle! ☘️
Just subbed today Malcolm to your channel. Thanks for your kind insight to our national holiday & saint. Look forward to checking out the rest of your channel.
How absolutely lovely!! Great job! I was in Gort at Yeat's Tor and while standing at the confluence of his two streams, this poem came to me (from him?) on the fly! Softly flowing streams sublime Let's me be on mountain high. Thou I stand on earthly ground, My spirit roams the world around. I am here and there as well, Letting my soul ring its twinkling bell. Only a thinking foul would claim to be, Bored by cloud and river free. Now am I Yeats in his sylvan vale, Thanking God for this hidden trail.
A little early for a Guinness? But in all seriousness, my brother and I have a tradition of pipe smoking after church while discussing the sermon or theological matters. Today, we'll do so with a Guinness. Cheers 🍻
Buíochas mór o mo chroi Malcolm, (in Irish this means immense gratitude from the heart) no better way to mark the occasion than with these great words you have shared with us.
I appreciate your wisdom which obviously derives from an insatiable curiosity. It's nice to see that, because quite a considerable amount of older individuals become bitter and lose that child-like curiosity and become magnets for drama. But to sit down, with a pipe and read some good literature in a gentlemanly manner is nice. I'm only a teenager, but I'm sure it keeps you feeling young. I'm an individual who knows a little about a lot but not a lot about any one thing in particular haha. Keep being yourself my friend.
Slainte! Grateful for the saints, like Patrick, who have gone before us. The Lake Isle of Inisfree is, indeed, a near-perfect poem, and one of the first I chose to memorize on my own (for fun!) and not because it was assigned. The meter itself echoes the lapping of water, in my mind. As someone who grew up in an area known for its innumerable lakes, I also can never forget the call of the waves.
Happy St. Patrick's Day! I have found a new favorite way to go about my day. Your love for poetry and literature is contagious. What a gift to have found you on RU-vid. Feeling blessed to start this Sabbath day with your spirit of love and happiness.
From Ireland, watching in from Japan. Been here since ‘98. Just came across your channel recently… Don’t celebrate Paddy’s day haha just thought I’d say hi… Love your videos. Alan
I just have to say that I absolutely love these videos of yours. Takes me to a cozy, happy place. Plus, you remind me very much of a former English literature professor of mine that I was quite fond of. Keep these coming. 😊
Enjoy the day; greetings from Galway, Ireland. Of all the poets of Ireland, I find Yeats to be the most musical and in touch with the rhythms of nature. I have been to Lough Gill (on which the Lake Isle sits) and truly feel that selfsame longing and nostalgia for the rippling waves on the water and the buzzing life in the forests around that Yeats expresses in his poem. I think he captures the essence of what all lovers of nature experience when they think back on the splendour of places they have been. I don’t drink, but I raise a metaphorical glass to the spirit of Ireland and am glad that others from across the sea do so too.
I have found your channel in a particularly challenging time in my life. I am extremely grateful to have done so, your videos give a warmth, comfort and sense of calm to me. I suppose, for me, they’re the kind of escapism that Tolkien described. Thank you for your videos!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day Malcolm. We had an typical American style boil up with corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes. I baked two loaves of soda bread. For afters we finished up with Irish coffees. Thanks for the poetry readings! Sláinte!
Hey Malcom, i recently started taking an interest in poetry and decided to write a poem, it’s my first poem so it won’t be great but here it is. It’s called “May Christ guide me in all that I do” May Christ guide me in all that I do, for everyday, in him I am made new. I find peace in him, and so can you. Into sin I often fall, but through his sacrifice, he may forgive all. I am but a sheep led astray, but in him, I can find my way. In all times, happy or blue, it is his teachings I ought to pursue. May Christ guide me in all that I do.
Yes Yates’ poem is so well written that you realize the place he’s talking about could be anywhere you are , as it is here alone in Vermont for me but one has to make that play so.
Happy St. Patrick's Day! I recommend everybody read St. Patrick's very own Confessions. It is fairly short, only about an essay's length. But a great autobiography from one of the great saints.
Good Evening 😊 Happy ST Paddy's Day 💚🍀💚 Awesome Video👌🏽Thanks for sharing the histroy 👏🏼👏🏼Have a wonderful week ahead 🤗 God Bless 🙏🏽 Greetings and Cheers 🍻 From South Africa 🇿🇦
That was a wonderful video, Malcolm. It is amazing how many great writers have come from the small island nation of my ancestors. You have a wonderful week.
Top of the Morning to you! Unfirtunately, My order hasn't arrived yet...a Peterson Tavern Pipe, and a tin if C & D St. Patrick's Day Reserve.. So I'll smoke one of my other Peterson's, smoke some Peterson's Irish Whiskey, and sip some Jameson in honor of St. Patrick. Cheers!
Happy St Patrick's Day Malcolm! I spent the day playing a set at the Irish Club in our Capital, Canberra. I was excited to find that Columba/Colmcille was a poet, and look forward to digging into his work from some song inspiration.
