Marshmallow to nie to samo co Ptasie Mleczko. Marshmallow było opatentowane jako pianki cukrowe z syropu glukozowego, żelatyny i wody. Ptasie mleczko zostało opatentowane i wprowadzone do produkcji zanim opracowano metodę zastygania i krojenia Marshmallow. Ptasie Mleczko oprócz żelatyny i syropu glukozowego zawierało zawsze masło, mleko zagęszczone słodzone, białka jaj, kwasek cytrynowy i było oblane czekoladą. Ptasie mleczko powinno być kwaskowe, orzeźwiające, puszyste, delikatne, lekkie ale jednocześnie mokre. Marshmallow to suche cukrowe pianki. Kiedy Wedel trafił w obce ręce zaczęli na opakowaniu Ptasiego Mleczka umieszczać napis Marshmallow co jest wielkim błędem jako używanie czyjegoś patentu i mieszanie polskiego patentu z innym patentem bo produkty bardzo różnią się od siebie.

Hi, I'm from Toruń (the last letter is very soft n, like spanish ñ, like you want to say n and i at the same time) and your Polish is getting GREAT. Toruń is kinda gingerbread capital of Poland. For centuries it was placed on an international trading tract, on which people were trading goods like for example amber or spices so eventually people started to make dough with that spices. So we are making gingerbread for hundreds of years. If You want to try more I can suggest gingerbread cake with plum filling. It's manufactured in Toruń and it's my absolute favourite. I kinda know what I'm talking about, trust me. I live here :D

In Poland for Christmas the ladies of the house bake the same cakes at least in my family but I am sure that in many, many others also and especially gingerbread which in various flavors at my house the day before Christmas Eve is today we sit and the whole family makes them together with the kids fun we have while well and family complete without phones

Oh man! Rob, your polish pronunciation is getting better and better. Katarzyna equals Catherine, so "Katarzynki" literally mean "Catherinnies". :)

Even though i was born in 1992 in my family home there was no tradition of carp swimming in the bathtub. And we only had two or three dishes. Grandma or dad always first read the Gospel of Saint Luke, about the Birth of Jesus from Bible. Then we broke the wafer and wished the best each other. Later we ate red borscht with tiny dumplings with mushroom. Later we ate fish filet from the store, 😅coated with egg and breadcrumbs, and fries or potatoes. Our Christmas Eve meal in those years looked like British fish and chips😀This dish always included pickled cucumbers. We've never had carp for Christmas Eve. Once we had 20 carps in a huge aquarium, because my brother wanted fish 😅 so these carps were pets 😂 not for eating. Later we sang Christmas carols as a family, all verses of most Polish carols. And my brother and i were waiting for gifts from Grandpa Frost. Mom told us to look through the snow- covered and icy windows in the dark night and said she saw Grandpa Frost walking. When we returned to the room, there were large bags full of gifts under the Christmas tree. The tree had beautiful decorations and those tacky Chinese 😂 christmas tree lights playing the melodies of the most beautiful Polish carols...at midnight we went to church for mass. On December 25, we had dinner.. broth, and a second course i.e. chicken fillet with potatoes and pickles. There was also a traditional vegetable salad, cheesecake and poppy seed cake. I am from Lesser Poland, but on December 24, Grandpa Frost came to us with gifts. And on December 6, Santa Claus came with gifts. When i was 4 years old, Santa (my dad's uncle in a disguise) came to us with an angel and devil and bags of toys. I didnt know this uncle so i was sure it was Santa. He told me that he came by helicopter, which is parked in front of the house. I remember crying because i wanted to go to the field to see that helicoter. And my mom said i couldnt go because i could be cold and sick😂. Saint Nicholas asked us if we were good and if we know the prayers. The most beautyful years that could have been. Today Christmas dishes are traditionally borscht and fish with potatoes, as well as bigos, vegetable salad, or chicken fillet. But also leczo of paprika, gyros salad or other delicious dishes that didnt exist in the past.

Wiśnia is a sour cherry type, more popular in Poland than sweet cherries, I'd say. What is also fantastic is a cherry wine (from Morello cherries).

I think you'd enjoy some unique Polish christmas carols. There's one that have always fascinated me since it encompasses not only some incredible mystical concepts but also speaks to the distinct duality of our polish souls. It's called "Bóg się rodzi" and is easily found on RU-vid. But if you ever react to it please, PLEASE pick a good version. Personally, I recommend a version by polish army representative choir, though a choir version by "Mazowsze" is also quite alright. Though honestly it sounds the best when sung in a packed church at a christmas midnight mass :)

Rob, you must plan your next trip to Poland in Toruń and maybe in neighbouring Bydgoszcz. All real pierniki (apart from the home made ones) come from the famous factory in Toruń. "Katarzynki" are also a brand of Toruń pierniki, and the "katarzynki" shape and name are patented. You shoud visit the ginger bread museum , the tour includes production of your own "pierniki". Afterwards you must visit the factory shop and try every single type of gingerbread they have.😁

Katarzynki (Catherines) had specified shape and sometimes they are a bit more spicer/ginger than Torunskie. You should taste a natural Katarzynki gingerbread - without chocolate, icing or additives inside

Out of curiosity, if in England this would happen every year ago in Poland... General Szymczak "mistaken" the grenade launcher for a Bluetooth speaker and fired it at the main headquarters 😂 Meanwhile in Poland. I think the BBC wrote about it

While there is overlap, piernik is not quite the same as gingerbread and some varieties don't use as much spices if any - those are more related to honeycake

Were I live (Upper Silesia), before Christmas bakeries sell loaves of gingerbread, usually 500g - 1kg. Just because they are used to prepare some of local Christmas dishes. Usually we buy one in the beginning of December. But a few days later it appears that we have to buy another, and then again. They have a misterious power to disapeear, nobody knows how and when. Must be some kind of Christmas magic.
