@@D-S-G. Lmao please tell me an Upper Hand user + Weakness Policy Tera Normal Dnite using upper hand and ESpeed to get an unflinchable +2 priority pseudonuke turn 1, please tell me that's a thing
i remember seeing in gen 8 an urshifu gmax coalossol team get countered by screech liepard and rain dance tornadus as the urshifu aqua jetted into coal, killing it in rain with -2 defense on coal
this reminds me of that one video where that guy got so fedup with self proc, they used prankster raindance and screech or something so the opponent KOs their own Coalossal with urshifu aquajet
It's worth noting that most of the setup mons have methods to alleviate some forms of counterplay; sneasel has inner focus, whimsicott is immune to rage powder, dynamax mons and annihilape are immune to fake out.
Something kinda funny with the Dragapult + Coalossal one; I frequently ran Eviolite Rhydon in gen 8 VGC (extremely low ladder) to counter G-Max Pikachu, and any time I ran into ome of these teams they tended to ignore Rhydon, which would then 1 shot the Coalossal immediately since I could run max (or near max) attack entirely because the Dragapult sets couldnt run max Sp. Atk without dealing too much damage to the Coalossal.
Nothing beat Kyogre + Swift Swim Entrainment Luvdisc Also it's Spelled Terrakion and not Terakion i thought this was going to be a Terapagos + Whimsicott Strategy
LOL ur right my bad, what's funny is that when typing the full name i spell terrakion right but gen 9's tera introduction has broken my brain and i spell terracott as "teracott"
The MausApe strat just gave me a stupid idea: 0 Attack IV, 0 Attack EV, Timid Support Maushold (maybe or maybe not holding a Wide Lens) using Population Bomb on a partner Annihilape holding a Ring Target. Beat Up would only get the Rage Fist counter to 250 Power. It's quite the commitment, probably too much so, but getting at least 6 Population Bomb hits would max Rage Fist out completely to 350 Power. Maybe not a competitive idea but still a fun one.
Funny idea but simply having Life Orb on Annihilape makes the 250 power Rage Fist into effectively 325, or having Choice Band makes it 375. Ring Target definitely isn't worth it, especially since as soon as you use that Population Bomb your opponent now knows they can use Fake Out into Annihilape. If you really wanted to use Population Bomb into the Annihilape then maybe just using something like Tera Steel would be the way to go so you can still have an item slot. ...also in 6v6 doubles formats like Smogon Beat Up can already get it to the max 350 anyway.
In my first regional ever (portland this past January, aka first reg F regional for vgc), I brought teracott with archaludon for fast and strong body presses--it got me to 6-3 and every matchup except 1 had a follow me user (would have been 7-2 but my controller disconnected in a game 3, remember to charge everything the night before people). Very strong archetype but ONLY if you learn how to position your team and understand that sometimes a beat up turn 1 isn't always how you win the game with these strategies
I love using weakness policy and pokemon that has rattled as its ability. Most people don't use the rattled ability. Getting the boosts and then clicking stored power is hilarious.
@@TaLeng2023 I have Jolteon use a weak pin missile on Tera Psychic Dundunsparce. Pops weakness policy, get several rattled speed boosts, then spam stored power and boom burst. Jolteon is using loaded dice item.
I feel like this is a problem with how Pokemon designs stat buffing. In most other monster collectors and JRPGs, buffs take much more commitment. Skills and moves that can buff multiple stats take up a ton of MP and due to how most use a 3v3 system, they use up a turn to get that buff which is usually not a big deal. It should also be noted they usually make it so buffs only last a few turns so you have to budget MP and turns if you need them again. With Pokemon, PP of moves is hardly a factor, you get the buff and it stays as long as the Pokemon is alive and in battle and with each turn being way more valuable, being able to speed up the buffing process ESPECIALLY if it increases the Speed stat. Something else that should be noted is that most JRPGs make buffs go in increments of 10% which is fair and balanced in most systems. Pokemon buffs stats in increments of 30% or even 50% which would be alot in ANY game.
Pokemon uses an entirely different system from other JRPGs. It works more like a tag in, tag out system than other games, where if your active party members are knocked out, so are you.
@@zombie_gullasch3131 How? Pretty much any other monster collector leaves stall as an unviable gimmick due to how 3v3 systems make it hard to outheal so much damage.
For effects that triggers from an item, knockoff is also an option. Though I'd note knockoff can also be used defensively when you're holding an item that you want to get rid off (notably choice scarf where sometimes you want to move later instead, along with giving you more move options later on)
a while back I was just doing doubles in SV, not even on ladder, and I ran into a guy leading Meowscarada and Krookodile, Krook had just enough investment to live a Flower Trick, activating Anger Point and Salac Berry and started sweeping me as soon as turn 1, and then had Costar Flamigo in the back, if this isn't the most Bo1 CTS shit idk what is (I could have literally ruined the sweep if I had used priority on Krook turn 1 but how was I supposed to know their play)
Dusclops and dundunsparce with rattled is nuts and ruined my online tournment. Shadow sneak into weak policy + rattled and boom burst with sparce from there. There is counter play but its a sneaky strong combo
Would it be possible to give any tips for someone who has been very immersed in singles competitive but has never done doubles competitive and where to start?
Weakness Policy Multiscale Dragonite is one of the few Weakness Policy sets that's remotely viable in singles. This is purely down to the facts that: 1. Ice is one of the commonly used offensive move types (for really good reason); 2. Multiscale is a pretty busted ability; and 3. WP + DD = GG. I should mention that the last time I was *super* competitive was SuMo, and choosing WP on Dragonite also freed up your Z-Stone slot for a different user (most people who saw Dragonite at the time were expecting Flynium-Z, or possibly Choice Band/Scarf).
Back on base SnS I ran an Eiscue weakness policy team, the proc was using a Jolteon with Double kick followed by Gmax Ice to recover the head immediately. Iirc Eiscue without the icehead can be faster than non SPD invested/scraf Dragapult which was pretty normal then, it was fun to use lmao
I wonder if there are strats that use the abilities that heal you from taking attacks from a certain move + spreads (that hit your ally) to abuse said ability.
Yeah was wondering about that, like maybe a Water Absorb poke with a partner that spams Surf. Thing though is you'd probably just end up with 2 Water Pokes on the field.
Back in gen 9 before covert cloak I played some VGC and it really felt like fake out, follow me, intimidate, terrain, tailwind, and trick room defined the entire game. It was kind of ridiculous, I even at one point ran a banded fake out Scrafty to substantial success. Fake out is so good in doubles that its situationally worth locking into with choice band. All of those things I just listed, except intimidate, can trivialize these types of strategies, so I have to wonder why people run them. I think it was really rare for me to lose to these types of strategies because most of my teams had ways to delete pokemon like Whimsicott before they could get a move off.
Personal favorite for VGC is prankster Swagger on mirror herb Roaring Moon/Dragapult. Catches any special attacker (flutter mane) with their pants down, and enables really strong Acrobatics. Not as good in bo3, but really fun to pull put of no where
Reminds me to finish my self hitting gimmick team: Intimidate Krookodile paired with Symbiosis Florges. Turn 1 Bulk Up + Petal Blizzard, proccing Weakness Policy to give Krook +3 ATK and +1 DEF, then give it Assault Vest via Symbiosis. Will likely not work most of the time, but once would be enough
Doubles strats where you hit your own pokemon to get ridiculous boosts are literally the reason I play. I’ve built so many teams none of them are very good but I live fishing for crazy sweeps with it. My greatest works in Gen 9 are: a duu team with rage fist anger point primeape, with a beartic to use frost breath and a toxapex to use pin missile and get rage fist explosion power levels. Using a variety of stat lowering moves on my contrary lurantis and serperior to get boosts, like bulldoze scary face or charm. But my most secret strategy of all… now if your read this promise you’ll keep my secret. Lead with latios and blastoise, blastoise fakes out whatever seems most threatening, while latios uses simple beam on blastoise. Next turn blastoise uses shall smash, eats white herb, 3x speed on offenses. Latios hits something with an aura sphere. Finally, latios uses psych up on blastoise, while blastoise uses a big ol water move or ice beam. Now latios uses stored power and sweeps. Also pack a kommo-o and falinks to use same strategy with their signature boosting moves.
Specific memories of a clip where someone ran a rain dance Tornadus and screech Liepard both with prankster purely to have their opponent KO their own Coalossal with this set
I remember using easy idea , weird gimmick team that use Donphan, great tusk, iron thron, slither wing, volcarona and iron moth (basically i only use 2 mons with other alternate ) I ended up somehow in +1500 (in doubles) before DLC mons come in
I don't actually play competitive Pokemon, but I did use this sort of gimmick for my Indigo Disk team where I had my Greninja with a Loaded Dice use Water Shuriken on my Archaludon to give it +4 or +5 defense right off the bat and then have Archaludon spam Body Press. Based on this video's comments, these strats with Archaludon don't seem to be particularly uncommon
Not me remembering uesing a very similar strat to the whimsi + terrekion in sword and shield with turn 1 dynamax justified lucario and beat up whimsi. It was a fun strat, yes. However im hopefully not as bad of a player as i was then lol (the rest of the team was really bad lol)
me when my friend smacks my head and i get so mad i punch a random stranger in the face and am now in jail for two acts of aggravated assault awaiting trial in ireland
Dmax also made Bulldoze Spectrier with Solgaleo or Metagross very strong. It's probably a bad strat now since metagross can't dynamax, Solgaleo doesn't exist, and Flutter Mane can just kill all of them, but there were a few Solgaleo top cuts with the strat iirc. I myself ran spec + metagross to great success. I miss Spectrier in general, very cool Pokemon with a lot of neat usage. It's doomed to be useless because everywhere it's usable except UUbers, it is just Bad Flutter Mane.
isn't it odd to talk about iron bundle psyspam right before mentioning dynamax format as if it came after? dynamax wasn't in gen 9. were you talking about a different format?
Many pros use such strategies from time to time. It can be annoying, but the rush of adrenaline when you see those stat boosts can really make the game more enjoyable. I don't think they are bad strategies, and in the right hands can be played very respectably.
yup, wolfey won players cup 2 with it LMAO you made nothing new the entire time ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uAmEJ0W5W4A.html&pp=ygURd29sZmV5IGNvYWxvc3NhbCA%3D
I think it’s wrong to call these noob strategies. Sometimes people who know well how to make a team that fits into the narrow confines of competitive play get bored of the limited nature of that scene and just want to have some fun making use of the varied things you can do within Pokémon. Let’s stop shaming people for trying out interesting stuff just because it might not win tournaments
Your Palestine call at the end of your videos annoy me. I know why you do it but I don’t wanna be reminded of stuff like that when watching Pokémon content. It dampens my enjoyment of the video. Doesn’t kill it, just makes it less enjoyable.
Hate team sheets such a dumb thing like bruh the game isn't balanced around knowing EVERYTHING your opponent can do. It's about learning what they can do and finding your checks.
