Looking forward to seeing Brady on the skid steer and helping dad in some upcoming videos!! Great job Brady on the narrative and playing under the lights with the big boys!!
The slabs definitely are drying well. They could definitely go in a kiln to be finished off. 7% moisture is cabinet grade and most woodworkers want 10% or lower for slabs. Slabs can hold moisture in pockets if it’s not dried thoroughly. And this can lead to them warping really bad. Great looking batch of slabs for sure!
Man, that was a huge burle (sp)! Not sure if you have any knife makers in your area, but they pay quite well for them and use them for handles/ "scales" etc.
Anything below 10% is good for lumber. The first batch is dry. I he second batch is pretty good.the horses are beautiful! Congratulations Brady! Have fun!
I am a Newbie to your Channel. It's great to see your Son Brady joining you in your Wood Hauling and Getting your Logs. Some great Looking Firewood to Process up. I do not sell mine yet, just use it for my own use in my Stove. I also get my Log Length Firewood from a local Tree Service. Looks like great Team Work, and Congrats to Brady being invited to join the Bigger Team. See you at the next Video. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
12% air drying is about as dry as lumber will get being outside bc of humidity in the air always. Have to kiln dry it to get the lumber down to 8% for woodworking quality. 1 week of drying per inch of thickness for pine and wet cedar. WalnUT dries super slow. Usually takes 1 whole month in the kiln at 130-150 degrees to dry a slab in the center after already air drying 6-12 months. With walnut it's best to endgrain seal the ends to prevent deep cracks/ checking for happening to fresh green logs. We've made several 55" wide x11ft walnut slab tables. They are no joke to lift alone. U need 3 people at minimum and a skidsteer to move those beastly slabs. Black Walnut is definitely my favorite tree to cut but it's not the easiest to move bc its so heavy
Cool video. I used to take all the wood even the bad stuff and split it the best I could. Some people wanted the junk wood as yall call it. Have a great day be safe
