Professor Daniel Kahneman, Nobel Prize winner in Economics, elaborates on his view of rationality in everyday as well as economic decision-making. Along the lines of his book "Thinking, Fast and Slow," he characterizes people's path to decisions as the interaction of the fast, heuristic, and intuitive System 1 and the slower, effortful, and deliberate System 2.

Perhaps that is why when we want to shoot down an idea we say it has/makes no rhyme or reason. Rhyme is coherence of the story, which in the mind then leads to reason. Poetry, even in fact false, often captures us. We can't stop listening to lyrics because they make life easy. They are the most reasonable things we hear all day.

Imperfect Rationality over Perfect Rationality: Statistical Characteristic evidenced by research lead to taking decision making with Facts. Skills- intuitive system 1, having a reporter , and System 2 where the editor edits details in, Associative Coherence through Cause and Effect .Thank you for this elaborative teaching.

Plato already talked about this system 1, and 2 stuff 2400 years ago. But Plato has 3 systems.

One also need to appreciate in D. K. his ability to communicate lucidly, irrespective of the matter being any where on the scale of degree of rationality, like Burtrnd Russel, and purity of musical notes is liked by receivers anyway. As for his system 1 and 2, I would like to extend it to 5 hierarchical systens of Stafford Beer 'Management Cybeenetics to help organizatuons be aware of their collective behaviour at different levels.

I bought and read the book, Thinking Fast and Slow. I listened the audible version because I had such a hard time with the book.

I wish some psychologist could help describe or develop a design model of D..K.s System 1 and 2 various elements n each and their inter connectiv ity in the cybernetic system called human mind.

Well, there is a general theory in psychology, which is Darwinism. It is disturbing that, since Darwin published "The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals", in 1872, it took more than a century for psychologists to realize that.

Well this is science, you need evidence and a mountain of studies to promote any hypothesis.

Yes, Kahneman and Tversky ignored emotions. Their research was very good, but limited. Plus, they also ignored the social aspects of judgment and decision making.

@@denisdaly1708 No, they studied heuristics which are, by default, mental artifacts of our emotions...so that is not true. These are cognitive manifestations shaped by our emotions,( drives and urges). Now You can not say that "they ignored the social aspects of judgment and decision making" because this is exactly the goal of the studied! THis is why Kahneman, a psychologist, was awarded a Nobel in Economics..... Their observations are valuable for the implications in a social framework. Are you sure that you are familiar with their work Denis????

It is shocking to learn that today,!students apparently are still being taught (or led to believe) that mere mortal minds or the tools or systems they create are rational or can behave rationally. WTF?? If you learn anything in college it should be the vastness of what you DON'T know. You don't know anything but what you believe you know when you were paying attention. The questions asked were fascile, pretentious displays of how smart they think they are -- clear proof they don't get it. "It is not rational to infer ...."
