Glad that Arlo got around to trying this one. Star Allies really isn't a great starting point to the franchise. Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are two games that expand more on Return to Dream Land's formula, would recommend.

Arlo's nephew is the best thing that has ever happened to this channel. Whenever he talks about a game he loves I just have a stupid smile on my face the entire time. He's so enthusiastic and an absolute joy!

While I do also like the masks, I wish we got to play as the actual characters the masks are based off of in magoland, being able to play as Daroach while smacking a bomb with a frying pan whilst aiming at Adeleine is a funny image in my mind that I wish we could’ve gotten

the entry gimmicks got stronger across this trilogy, The super abilities were limited but flashy and occasionally compelling, the super inhale in triple deluxe felt like it was always the most fun version of the Super abilities each time. And then the mechs in planet robobot ended up being an AMAZING core gameplay addition that takes the flash from the previous two and makes it a genuinely deep extension to Kirby's abilities

If they remake the rest of this Kirby Trilogy, I can guarantee that you’ll love it. Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are unforgettable! Also, if the unchanging copy ability mode was your favorite, then your in luck, since both games have their own modes like this!

I mean, for story reasons, I can't imagine Magolor Epilogue being playable BEFORE clearing Story mode.

Planet Robobot and Triple Deluxe also have post game modes where you play as a single character for the entire game. If you like Magolor Epilogue, those modes provide a similar feeling

The things Arlo doesn't like about Kirby is having to learn the strengths/weakness of the copy abilities & losing them when taking damage? The damage thing can feel random, losing abilities sometimes but not others, but learning the movesets in a game that can be beaten without using a single one seems like a small ask of the player.

Every main Kirby game has some harder post game content, this idea starting out in Super Star Ultra Also the point about Return to dreamland's level design could come from the fact that this IS a remaster of the Wii version, an older Kirby game that's the first of its kind.

While I do enjoy Arlo his almost addictive like obsession with games being hard is where I will never see eye to eye with him. I'm fine with a challenge, I've got all the achievements in Elden Ring but I'm not constantly wanting a challenge. Sometimes I just want to breeze though a game.

You sold the Magolor portion of the game so well I want to get it purely just for that. I've always been interested in the epilogue, but this is the first time I've actually seen gameplay of it. It LOOKS as satisfying as it sounds, and the gameplay loop is right up my alley. As soon as you said you'd want to play an entire Magolor spinoff I was immediately nodding in agreement, and I'm sad it doesn't exist now lmao

i'd by magalors mode if it was standalone, though what you described sounds like something that's been a part of kirby for a long time, you either get a super copy ability that kind of works for everything puzzly or get to play as metaknight or dedede, streamlining the game.

Honestly, I'm surprised they've managed to go this entire year since RtDL DX without announcing or releasing a new Kirby game, only rereleasing old ones for NSO, but also I feel like they're just going to announce another one in the September Direct, and so the Kirby will ride simply never end

This game has--and I cannot stress this enough--AMAZING MUSIC.

As someone with a 7 year old brother who is very into Kirby, hearing your nephew’s thoughts on the game made my day! Unfortunately the arena is going to be easy with just about any copy ability once you know how the bosses work. There is, however, a MUCH more difficult and (in my opinion) more interesting boss rush waiting for you after you beat extra mode!

I remember playing this game back on the Wii with my sibling many years ago. Seeing it get a remaster was bringing ALL of those wonderful memories back. We still got long ways to go to 100% the main game, True Arena, and Extra Mode. Sadly, adult life is an issue

This is honestly my favorite Kirby game of all time! Well the original one, I never played this version yet. Also there's actually no such thing as a bad Kirby game, that's something Kirby fans can all agree on.

The lack of an intro pun actually bummed me out a bit. I don't even like puns, but it's a nice, fun tradition to have in the reviews; just a bit sad 😅

My only real disappointment with this game as a remake of the original is there are just a couple little bits of content that they could have included to make it the truly definitive version that aren't there. There's a minigame in the Wii version where you fight some mech versions of classic Kirby bosses by shooting at them with the pointer, and I remember having fun with that one. Especially with how many minigames are in Deluxe, it's strange that one from RtDL Wii isn't there. There are also some extra ability challenges as a bonus in the Kirby Dream Collection, including some pretty neat races against Magolor. With those using the RtDL mechanics and aesthetic, it would've been nice to see them wrapped into the remake since they always sort of felt like honorary parts of the game.

I honestly really want to see an entire kirby game of just minigames. It wouldn't have to be like mario party or anything, just a nice little minigame collection. It would probably be $15 to $20 and have 15 to 20 minigames with a mix of old and new and some missions to give some insensitive to play.

One thing that's a little disappointing to me is how much of the motion controls were hidden or removed! It's very VERY good that all the motion was remapped, but I think it took away a bit of the game for me. A lot of the Super Abilities used to rely on shaking or aiming the remote, and now they're just button presses. I can't remember if you can still just shake it, but I know you can't aim with the Flare Beam. Shaking when inhaling makes the MAX inhale activate faster, so it's really useful in the dimension segments, and I don't think many people utilized it, since they never tell you that's a thing. Spark's energy shield/blast can be charged up by shaking, which is incredibly useful, and that's another thing that I don't think the game tells you. It almost feels like a lot of the motion control stuff was kept--- but swept under the rug. So you wouldn't know it's there unless you've played the original and know how _that_ works. Some of the Merry Magoland games are also better with motion controls. Mainly Kirby on the Draw and the target one. Kirby on the Draw specifically is so much more fun with motion. Make sure you use a joycon though, because the Pro Controller's motion aiming is oddly terrible compared to games like Super Mario Galaxy or 3D World.

As someone who played the original on wii as a kid, I am really enjoying my time revisiting this gem of a game, and I'm glad you're enjoying it as well :DD ...but as a side note, what happened at 17:47?

you know im really glad HAL hasnt gone stale over the years. Theres a lot of companies like... say gamefreak. That you know, over the years, just not as good as they used to be. So you hear about a remake from your childhood and its like "oh that's probably not going to live up to the original" None of that here, im so glad for that. Its just Kirby, continuing to be good like it always has been.

The Secret True Arena Final Boss and its music is already worth my money

Arlo should be happy to know that Magolor's Epilogue is actually really similar modes included in some of the other great Kirby games, like Planet Robobot.

I am once again here defending Star Allies. Anyone who wanted to enjoy but felt that it didn't have enough, needs to go back and play it after all was released. It was a really great Kirby game.

my favorite youtuber covering my favorite videogame!! happy day!! yeah, if the copy ability cycling and floating in 2D are a hassle then it might not be worth pushing through too too much of the 2D library. if you were to do one more, it might be worth hitting the ~fan favorite~ planet robobot for its exceptional mech ability twist, different aesthetic, fantastic story/music and honestly maybe even the bonus mode! im not sure how much better meta knightmare or dedede tour would hit compared to guest star mode, but theyre nice multi-hour experiences all with one character truly I do wonder if 2D could become a style for experimentation going forward. dont count out the idea of side character games with new mechanics, this might be a bowsers fury moment where they want to test how we like magolor.. prologue!

As a fellow uncle, I found it heartwarming that you asked your nephew for his insight on the game, too. My nephew is a year older than yours, and he discovered the wonders of Kirby this past Christmas when his parents got him "Forgotten Land" for his Switch. Honestly after playing forgotten land for a while going back to the old 2d kirby games feels really weird. Like i wonder if its the same type of feeling that people got when playing mario 64 for the first time ever and then going to the 2d mario games way back during the time it released.

This talk about the problems of the copy ability, is something that Forgotten Land really fixed. You can level up your copy abilities, and even change the way they function. Something that would be greatly appreciated in a future Kirby game, gives you a sense of progress. Maybe getting gold or platinum medals in the challenges could offer an upgrade to the copy ability it's testing. Stuff like that.

I have a lot of respect for you, since you didn't just say you didn't like Star Allies, but you also explained why it doesn't work for you. I don't worry if a game is too easy, I look for fun. But the way you explained it, I can see why Star Allies just didn't click. If I were to make a suggestion... Maybe Kirby's Epic Yarn might be a little more up your speed? Forgive me if you have played it because I am still very new to your videos! But the fact Kirby has a very distinct moveset in that game, the fact you seem to enjoy exploring levels, it just might work. While you can't die, it is as hard as you make it to be. Although the mini games might get on your nerves, it's optional so there's that!

I think that after you play some more Kirby you should return to Star Allies! It definitely makes sense that you didn’t initially like that game very much (the level design is the worst of all the modern Kirby games and CPU allies are kinda annoying) but as a Kirby fan who has experienced most of the games there’s a lot to love about it.

Well boy, howdy do I got good news for you! Past Kirby games have been including bonus modes starring another character in the game! Usually it's a Time Attack with non-canon story bits, enhanced bosses and new bosses like Galacta Knight. I don't recall any having the indepth upgrade system like Magalor got but you do get the one non changing moveset. Let me break it down for ya: Meta Knightmare: Time Attack through all of Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland's levels in one go as Meta Knight! Meta Knightmare Ultra: Time Attack through all Kirby Super Star Ultra games COMBINED into one massive run as Meta Knight! Dededetour!: Time Attack through all of Kirby: Triple Deluxe in one go as King Dedede! Meta Knightmare Returns: Time Attack through all of Kirby: Planet Robobot as Meta Knight! Also special shout out to Kirby Mass Attack and its extra games being completely different genres yet still being fairly fleshed out despite just being side content. You get pinball, a shmup, and a mini-RPG like experience focused on battles alongside the smaller stuff.

While the criticism of Kirby games forcing you to change copy abilities is valid, I’d recommend you try and complete stages without doing the copy ability that the stage sometimes pushes you to change to. You’ll see that the stages actually offer a unique perspective when you attempt to complete it with a different copy ability. While Kirby games do require you to change copy abilities sometimes for collectables, most of the time, the game wants you to experience different abilities and see how they interact with different stages.

So what color monster do you think Arlo’s nephew is? Pink? Green? Purple? Orange?

I hope Epic Yarn eventually gets ported. I bought this and Forgotten Land a month or so ago and had Stsr Allies for awhile but hadn't done much on it but have been playing them sporadically and enjoying them all.
