Doing something a bit different this week, and talking about a small, but still broader than usual, topic: Character songs in anime and anime-style video games!
I've enjoyed quite a few character songs over the years, from Girls Und Panzer, Azur Lane, and other IPs, so I wanted to take a quick look into the phenomenon of character songs: where they came from, and why they're great!

GuP already has some incredibly enjoyable music, and the character songs are no exception. I am so happy that this genre of music exists and that GuP took part in this. I feel some of the best songs in the GuP OST are the character songs of the various commanders from the different schools. Each commander song fits their respective commander so well and I enjoy them all so much. Miho's character song is easily a favorite character song of mine.

Azumanga Daioh has great character songs; the show is fantastic all-around and I can’t believe I missed out on it for so long.

Ive listened to most of the azur lane character songs and have many favorites there. Especially the ones featuring my beloved waifus like Z23 or le malin are at the top. But even some unexpected ones as javelins song for example is my favorite of the 4 starter songs despite her being my least favorite starter girl which i find really amusing. As for gup i really love the anglerfish team song where each of the crew sings a part as well as the songs for my beloved mako. As for songs id wish for. Def an anzu song is neccesary and some more songs for a couple of my azur lane waifus like hipper, saratoga or tashkent/kiev would make me really happy

I've only recently been listening to character songs, my favorite right now is probably Katyusha's

I love the commander's character songs, my favorite would probably be "Nuovo Armati Paradiso", I love that the song begins very solemn like some sort of Enka/Emotional Ballad then it does a complete 180 and becomes a fun song about what makes Anzio High School so special!

My favorite is 1PLDK. And on an unrelated note, I find the Dargeeling/Peko character song to have an almost evil or villainous tone to it while being very how should I describe it, organized? Strict? Marching in line ish? Something like that, but it made me think that St.G is closer to being the villain than Kuro (at least now) as they are even more structured and strict than Kuro was, though with the Crusaders and Rosehip not sure anymore. I still do think that St.G is the last target for Oarai and their way of Shensha do, the last to be fixed, so to speak.

Arknights has a ton of good character songs (check out "towards her light" saileach's character song) Thought they sometimes use a different artist for the song and the voice lines 😢 They also have event songs and a yearly live concert (Ambience Sinestesia). People like to accuse hypergriff of being a music company disguised as a gatcha game.
