Hi all, a quick review of the new Pulsar Helion 2 XP-50 Pro, thermal imaging monocular. A quick review of what you get and a few things I picked up along the way after putting it through its paces. It is a great monocular so if you are in the market for a thermal spotter then be sure to check it out.

Thanks for the review mate, well done. I'm awaiting one myself and am very keen. Question for you based on image..... Thermion 2 XP50 vs Helion 2 Pro XP50. I'm very interested to see the difference with the slightly higher base mag on the Helion.

@MrBHuntingDownUnder 2 года назад
It’s slight but the 2.5 base mag is great. Put that in the thermion 2 XP50 and we are done. I sometimes find 3 too much and 2 not enough so it would be my sweet spot, especially with the zoomed pip.

@@MrBHuntingDownUnder I hold the same thoughts (not to judge before I get the Helion). I'd be happy enough with 3x for the majority of my shooting. The wide FOV is wicked though on close in pigs but that's a small part of my stuff. Gees, fussy bunch aren't we 🤭

Ha, when we spend this much Nathan we should be able to choose! The wide FOV is a great safety and surroundings things as well as an oops I missed where did he go feature…. Be very interested in your take when you get your hands on one, looking forward to it!

Thanks for the great review! I have the helion 2 xq38 and it’s a great device, but it does struggle a bit for ID beyond 200m (Roos, sheep, etc that aren’t moving look like blobs). Does this unit do much better would you say and how much of a difference do you reckon the
@MrBHuntingDownUnder
@MrBHuntingDownUnder 2 года назад
Hey Michael, if you put the 25 side by side with the 40 you would notice a little difference, as I said, in poor weather, fog, cold, rain etc you really start to notice the difference. Then side by side the difference is obvious

@@MrBHuntingDownUnder Thanks for the info! Do you reckon it’s worth the extra price for the upgrade to the Pro over the 2 xq38?
@MrBHuntingDownUnder
@MrBHuntingDownUnder 2 года назад
That’s a much better sensor in the pro, it’s double the resolution but it also costs a lot more, budget would dictate that I reckon. Some people prefer to save some on the spotter and get a better scope. Some buy the best of both worlds. Would be personal choice but if you put the 38 and the pro next to each other you would clearly see the difference in all scenarios.

Why does the video on thermal monoculars freeze Evey so often . Also if you are watching a target what is the Length of time between freezes . Thanks
@MrBHuntingDownUnder
@MrBHuntingDownUnder 2 года назад
Hey treadstone, they freeze to calibrate, can be set to automatic or done manually. When scanning it’s not so bad, maybe a second or so, my scope is set to semi auto so it doesn’t happen when trying to take a shot

Is there anyway to turn the "record" button off? Or will it always be present when reviewing footage?
@MrBHuntingDownUnder

Hey Las, if you mean the on screen display, it’s always recorded, no way round that I don’t think

Could this be used for night hiking?

@MrBHuntingDownUnder Год назад
Hey jpod, thermal sees the same thing night and day so for spotting birds, possums etc at night, absolutely

@@MrBHuntingDownUnder Hey thanks for the reply, I should specify a few things: is there any lag in the video that would be hampering, how do the optics perform in close ranges such as looking at the ground for obstacles while walking. Would the optics focus and show detail that close, or give motion sickness?
@MrBHuntingDownUnder
@MrBHuntingDownUnder Год назад
@jpod73 there’s no lag at all, manual focus, but think of it more like binoculars, you scan and move on, you don’t walk with it as such, you’d need a different 1:1 helmet mount thermal or similar for that.

@@MrBHuntingDownUnder thanks for the respsonse. so you would not recommend holding this up to your eye to traverse terrain in that case. could you recommend one that would fill that roll with great image quality?
@MrBHuntingDownUnder
@MrBHuntingDownUnder Год назад
@jpod73 Checkout the infiray MH25, helmet mounted thermal, something like that might be better suited to your needs
