The purpose of us wanting to see DAY ONE is HOW IT STARTED, How People learned about having to be silent, how they learned that they cant swim. If felt like they had an artsy film about death and a sick woman but attached the quiet place brand to it. THEY AINT EVEN SHOW TIME SQ or anything really NY. Why set it in NYC if you not gotta use TS, Subways, Skyscrapers, etc. This was a MID film, i was disappointed
We didn't even get a battle between the death angels and our military. We knew how it would end because of the first two movies and they showed the aftermath, but it would've been awesome to actually SEE it and it would've made this movie a blockbuster for the summer. Instead, we get Lupita and her cat with an emotionally fragile English dude following her around.
I enjoyed the movie. Loved the ending and cried like a baby towards the end. Both of the main characters gave each other what the other needed. I think some people felt like Eric was a weak character but he wasn’t. Before the end of the world he said his purpose was going to law school and when it didn’t happen he was lost . I think he found a new purpose when he met Sam. I loved how even though they were strangers they still connected and helped each other. I teared up when she gave him her cat because he needed ot for his panic attacks and anxiety.
Brandon, thanks for this review. I had similar thoughts about the movie. I wanted to see the fight as well. At the end of the movie, I said once again we had to sacrifice ourselves to save others.
I agree with everything you said. WHY DID DAY ONE TURN INTO MULTIPLE DAYS?? They could have had multiple storylines all in one day. The actors gave good performances, but the movie was eh...
Hhhmmm. I agree that more city destruction would have been interesting. Maybe an office building full of coworkers, a restaurant scene, times square etc. However, this was _heavily_ marketed by Lupita and Joe as a movie from the point of view of two strangers. They did like 15+ interviews as a duo and at no point was I under the impression that I was going to see Independence Day. 'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ' John 15:13
Day one was so boring they shoehorn a stupid cat into the plot for no reason. This movie Didn’t add anything to progress the franchise. It was so underwhelming after it was over I went into another theater and watched bad boys. Just to get my money worth.
I had to come back to this video while watching the movie and it’s funny this is the first comment I see bc this is exactly how I felt. In fact I still have about 35 mins to go bc I’m still watching and keep getting bored and stopping it to go do something else 😂😂😂
It is DAY ONE but we see only a couple minutes of it! We should have seen humanity trying to defend itself and failing, we should have seen more of the creatures to understand them. Instead, we jump cut to the humans already knowing to be HUSH HUSH and surviving. It's a good movie but it didn't hit what i was hoping to see.
Agreed. Can we get another Day 1 movie from the perspective of whoever monitors space and possible cutaways to the military and the government? Also, can we feature normal people who are not terminally ill? I feel they could have made a nice arthouse movie about a terminally ill patient who happened to be in an apocalypse which didn't involve the plot of A Quiet Place. That's basically what we got. It was an interesting movie, just not what I expected. I didn't have my questions answered about the monsters or the human discovery of how to beat them.
I can definitely agree with the character development point where there was a 10 mins space where they could have deleted because I don’t want to see someone reminiscing about playing a piano! Completely not necessary.
I enjoyed it for what it was. I didn’t have any real complaints but I liked Lupitas and Joesph’s chemistry but the location in the city was definitely a different pace. There’s a fourth in the works so maybe then everyone that’s so interested in why and where they came from. I kinda like the mystery of knowing very little but from the looks the military didn’t do well
I could tell Krasinski didn’t do the writing nor had a creative hand in it. BUT! I am a huge fan of the world and concept so…I enjoyed knowing they lay eggs and such
Movie is a 4 out of 5, & personally my favorite of the franchise. I never watch trailers to prevent from going into a movie w/expectation baggage. It was easier for me to get behind the two protagonists in this new film vs the family in the previous two. I sometimes find it difficult to enjoy these movies when there is characters making to many dumb decisions. First two movies is well directed, & the overall concept makes for a suspenseful movie experience, but I didn’t enjoy the way the characters were written. Day One has solid directing better written protagonists, & depicting humans in a more uplifting viewpoint makes for a pleasant viewing experience. Usually movies like this showcase the worst of humanity. The movie biggest sin is the title. I don’t believe it was a good idea to call this Day One. Probably should have called it “New York”.
I haven’t seen the film but what I’m getting from the review is that it should have took a “Purge Anarchy” approach with focusing on different interconnecting Storylines
That go on mr white man I got cancer cough cough ill just live alone and maybe die here , yall save yall self and my cat smhh ain't like that That man could do everything bruh get the meds and save the cat not get kill by monster and just pop back up with the meds And that cat woulda been dead so much no cat is that quiet I aint like them parts I gave it a 2.5 outta 5
Spoiler alert! Main character did not sacrifice herself, she was in the hospice at the start of the movie. She made noise by having car alarms go off to assist the other character to make it on board with her beloved cat (that is what she truly cared for and had an attachment to). She lived beyond that scene. At at the end we saw the choice she made on her own alone. I get what you are saying with characters sacrificing themselves for others, but that is not what is going on in this particular film.
Yes. That’s the whole point on why she didn’t get on the boats. She had every chance to but she didn’t. She was ready to die and she accepted her fate once she fulfilled her last wish.
@@BeautifulEarthJa she was terminally ill and she lived. She chose not to leave. Then when she pulled her earphones out of the mp3 player and allowed the music to play loudly, you see that the alien heard her. She went out on her own terms.
I like the first two movies better, especially the second one. There was some great scenes and Lupita knocked itout of the park, but other than that it was okay
You describing a completely different movie. The whole point of a quiet place is a tight focus on a few human characters. You’re describing a big action summer film and that would not be a quiet place at all. If we focus on all that you wanted, we wouldn’t care about the people because it would just be unwarranted action but no connection. Just my opinion. Love your reviews.
Well that's what the first two movies was about but we're hoping for more by the third movie. When it's called day 1 we kinda expect an invasion scenario as humans discover what these aliens are so it should be action packed.
I think people that don’t like the movie are the same people that don’t like dramas. Just like they don’t like character development and a lot of dialogue, they don’t like silence. They need constant action. I enjoyed the film. I thought Lupita did a great job.
Not true, I love drama and character development. Did you see the first 2 movies? There was complete silence, and I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation. The fact is this movie this movie is inferior to the first two, in its writing and direction.
I totally agree with you. Did the aliens ship break down in our atmosphere? Where these aliens another aliens trash and they got rid of them on there planet, and dropped them in space, which would explain the look of meteors falling from the sky. And the aliens dropped right on earth. I would have like to know more about the aliens. Also when the man who was with Lupita running to the ferry. How did those aliens know not to go in the water. I thought we learned that in part 2. Do how would they know?.
Great review Sir; as usual. You make a good point about "Day One". Maybe there will a prequel to the prequel. A New Yorker would not sacrifice a sandwich for ANYBODY.
How can you do a movie about a large group of people getting slaughtered. Which characters would you relate to or care about? In what movie has that premise been pulled off? That would be a movie filled with a bunch of red shirts. Good questions, but it sounds like you want A Quiet Place Origin. This was a good movie! Very well acted with a very good character arc. We saw better creature shots and had a few jump scares. And I, for one don't understand why people think it's so hard to put together that the creatures are attracted to sound. You sit quietly, hiding from a creature, you hear a loud noise and see the creature react. Figuring out they can't see would be more difficult.
Not a “large group” but Aliens had about 12 people that it focused on half of the film then 2-3 people towards the end. 2 for the most part in War of the Worlds but there were small to large groups showcased throughout the film. Battle: Los Angeles, The Faculty, Edge of Tomorrow. Those didn’t focus on “large groups” but not just 2 most of the movie.
@@w.w.1348 SPOILERS!!! Just watched it. First 2 films were better. Kinda wished the military killed at least one of the creatures and dissected it. I mean it is the 3rd film. They should know more about the creatures by now. Also, even though it suppose to be day one, people were taking too many risks. That threw me off. Lastly, I didn’t like that she sacrificed herself at the end. If the writing for the next film isn’t as good as the first 2 and the creatures are still a mystery to the military I’m going to skip it. Overall I score it a 6.5/10
@@NdoubleN2 Ok, not sure why this is addressed to me. You're entitled to your thoughts about the movie. And with that, I can't be convinced that it wasn't a good film, nor can I say even with the thoughts you suggested, that in the hands of a poor director, that movie would be better.
Thank you for being honest. It wasn’t as great as the others. It was too much storyline and weird jump scenes. What does Sam have to do with the overall series.
Great review. We just returned from watching it and I'm left underwhelmed by the storyline, the men yelling and unable to keep it together, willing to sacrifice everyone in their space, pulling on a woman screaming for her to save him, it was so much messaging in this movie. The acting was awesome, but having people attach themselves to me for their survival has been the story of my life as well. He went to get her medicine, only after feeling guilty for nearly getting them killed. I did end up enjoying his character but without going too deep I agree with your perspective.
once again a film show us 2 much of what we don't care about....n not enough for what we want to see.....like how did the military know they don't like water 🤔
Thanks for your honest opinion and keeping it 💯 If it was truly Day One…..the focus should have been on DAY ONE! No time jumps. Better yet……just call it A Quiet Place Beginning….maybe…..so I agree with your point.
I think I enjoyed this movie more than everybody else because I simply didn’t watch the trailers. I don’t understand why anybody after Batman v Superman would watch movie trailers after that debacle. I liked the movie because I wasn’t expecting something the trailers was trying to portray. My only gripe with this film was that the cat wasn’t realistic in its actions.
**Spoilers here** This movie was a huge letdown. There were certainly tense moments, when things were actually happening. The experience of watching this in a theater was better than the actual film; it was one of the most quiet theaters I've ever been in, people did not want to make noise, and when someone did emit sound it was a bit startling lol. However, the movie ended up being trash. In the first 2 flims, Emily Blunt was struggling to survive with children plus a newborn in tow, handling business with plenty of hero moments. Good stuff. In this prequel, Lupita Nyong'o's character is relegated to 'the help'. She gives food to a pair of random white kids that she comes across, then sacrifices herself in the end so that a white man who just won't leave her side can take himself and her [white] 'service cat' Frodo to safety on the evacuation boat. What was the point of the white dude going out and getting her some 'medicine' (drugs) to revive her, only for her to sacrifice herself in the end? Why didn't she just give him the cat and direct him to the boat, then just lay there and die when her 'meds' ran out? Didn't make sense to me. There were lulls in the action as well - for this to be happening in New York City, the slow parts was also a letdown. There's text in the beginning that the noise in NYC is the equivalent of a constant scream. I say, 'Ok, there's gonna be A LOT going on once the sound-sensitive aliens touch down. I can count on one hand the amount of action that happened, a lot of it unseen. There were many questions raised but never addressed or explained. How did Frodo the cat not meow one time in the whole movie with all that was going on? This was no doubt the worse of the series. I'm tired of seeing non-white characters de-fanged and rendered helpless in action films. For Lupita Nyong'o to be the lead in this film, only for her to wave the white flag in the end just ruined the whole experience for me personally. I really looked forward to this one, but this goes down as one of the biggest disappointments this year. I give it 2/10.
You don't know who Joseph Quinn is😂 lol.. His character Eddie Munson was a very popular character on the fourth season of Stranger Things and plus he was also on Game of Thrones as well.
To film all more alien destruction would have been extremely expensive. Human interaction is important. I totally agree that it is not mentally healthy to show people sacrificing themselves for others. Bad programming! There is nothing noble about a decision to end one's life. That impulse should not be glorified in any form. It is reckless to show that being "in pain" justifies the notion.
Thanks for your review, totally agree! My daughter and I, who totally loved the first two movies, walked out saying, it was okay/good but somewhat disappointing, the pacing was slow at times to the point I was shocked with myself that I nodded off a bit, not enough DAY ONE action scenes, yes, would've loved more military action scenes and more actual DAY ONE exposition. The two main character story was fine, but John Krasinski, we need you back on the helm!!!
This was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. A complete steaming pile of dog dung. To call it “A Quiet Place” was an insult to the franchise. The director needs to go back to directing school or whatever the F they call it 2/10
Hello I agreed with your review so much and I responded to the ending of it the same way why do they have to write the character as a black woman sacrificing herself for this white man and it is all nothing but subliminal programming our Consciousness to perform to perform these acts. Unfortunately many people are not awareand go along. why does the black woman being sickly then give up her life, Programming !!!
@@myerst52 You said that right Trump answered every question with Lies. It would be better for America if we moved on past these two. We need age and term limits.
I enjoyed it, but your points are well made. There should have been more of an explanation for the alien invasion IMO. My favorite of the three was the very first one.
Clearly this was a story about the character, not to tell you the whole New York story. Maybe that's another film. Judge this for what it was, not what you think you would've made.
Another lame review? Leave then! Why are you here? Ando WHO said the movie was bad? I gave it a positive rating towards the end, and said the movie wasn't bad verbally. Are you slow?
